FY 2014 Air Force Nursing

FY 2014 Air Force Nursing
I guess I am confused. I am an alternate for crit care and have never heard anything about not being selected as an alternate.?.?.. I have talked at length with my recruiter, never once did she mention not getting in as an alternate, on the contrary she said this is an acceptance, it's just really a wait. Not sure if there is a difference because I am FQ and not NTP or med/surg. Super confuses now :-/

Air Force Nursing 2013
Jillyrn, you are still pretty young with lots of options, I would say contact another recruiter, it didn't sound like a super positive experence! Hoping that whatever you decide it all works out Is anyone else on this board a Crit Care alternate?? Just want to stay connected!! Thanks

Air Force Nursing 2013
I am pretty sure it's Oct 2013, they will release the dates for COT for the new fiscal year mid summer. I would say for us alternates, we should plan on heading to COT in the begining to mid Oct. It only makes sense that those already selected, those from previous boards and all the ROTC graduates will take up these next 2 COT dates and us alternates will plan to go in Oct unless they have people drop out then we would fill those slots. Hope that makes sense. :-)

Air Force Nursing 2013
Hi guys, I guess so. I'm not sure how long ill have to wait but I'm really hoping not to long, I'm so impatient haha My recruiter said hope for some time soon but expect some time after September. Since I'm in the guard I'm gonna try to head to COT sooner, so we will see. Hoping some good news comes in for all of you guys...it's been a long couple of months for all of us. Ill keep ya posted on what I hear and make sure you all do the same!

Air Force Nursing 2013
oh what a bummer but you are right, it's not a non-select so that is great...another month does stink but it's just a couple of weeks away...my fingers are double crossed for all the clinical nurses applying...I am freaking out more now...nothing seems to go as planned for these boards and nothing is ever a safe bet. I'm just hoping for the best for now and praying something positive happens. ughhh we need some good news!

Air Force Nursing 2013
Mammkellyd, So happy the interview went well! I would just get in touch the with the recruiter and get the ball rolling. The guard is different than active in the the sense that once you meet with the unit and they want you, you are all set. There isn't really a board per se. So congrats sounds like as long as your MEPS physical goes well you will soon be on your way! To the other canidates on this thread...this is going to be the longest week EVER!! :-) Hope you all are finding ways to pass the time...I now have no finger nails left...hopefully we will have great things to post in the next couple of days.

Air Force Nursing 2013
Mamakellyd, The interview process for Air Guard and Active duty can be very different. For example, I did not have to complete the 9 questions, my interview was very laid back with the Cheif Nurse and my recruiter. I brought my husband along to meet everyone afterwards. Although they are both Air Force, the two can be very very different. Regarding COT, as of now and in my unit, RN's can not go to RCOT. Not to say your commander might have pull or there is circumstances that require RCOT. This is definitely something they will talk to you about as soon as you get in. I would suggest preparing for COT and be excited if RCOT ends up working out. Good luck to you!

Air Force Critical Care
Anyone aware of how many critical care slots are open for this board???
-
Air Force Nursing 2013
MBRN74, You can go active duty from guard, it's a process, but it can be done. Switching from ANG to Active isn't easier. I am a critical care nurse in the Guard as well, so that had no bearing. Getting into the Guard can be harder than active in the sense that there are not a lot of slots available so you have to wait quite a bit sometimes. Both are extremely competetive programs to get into, it's just a matter of life style I guess.
