nursing in USA-Please help
My husband is UK trained RN. He graduated about 20yrs ago. When he applied for his US license about 5yrs ago he met all the requirements and was given his ATT straight away. Has UK RN educated changed a lot since then?

My experience getting an Australian License as a US nurse
Congratulations of getting your registration. I am an Australian educated RN. I am now living in the US and I have my US license. I just wanted to comment on your need to have 800hrs of workplace experience. You are right, it does mean clinicals. In my 3yr Bachelor of Nursing degree in Australia I completed 900hrs of clinicals.

I need help meeting pediatric clinical requirements to sit NCLEX
I am an Australia RN currently living and working in the US. When I applied to sit for the NCLEX I was lacking in OB clinical hours. The BON allowed me to sit the NCLEX before I completed the clinical hours. I contacted the Nursing Department of a large university (I was already living in the US) and asked for assistance. They were so helpful. They allowed me to enroll in an "independent study course" and they arranged my clinical hours in the local hospital. I completed them and was given my US license.

Passed the NCLEX - Foreign educated Nurse
Hi peaceandjoy I am not much help as I did my makeup clinical hours in the USA. My only suggestion is to contact the BON and specifically ask them what they will accept. I was only required to do 16hrs of clinical to meet their requirements. Two 8hr shifts and I was done.

Hi Steve Yes, our experience sounds very similar. Did you get your CES? I did my obstetric prac through the University of Virginia (UVa). Are you living in Richmond?

Australian nurse missing obstetrics nursing
I have a Bachelor of Nursing from an Australian university. I am working as an RN in the USA. From my experience it really depends on which state you apply too. Each state seems to have different requirements. I have heard California is one of the toughest states to apply too. When I applied to the Virginia Board of Nursing I was found to be lacking clinical practice in obstetrics. I was already living in the US so I arranged through a school of nursing at a local university to do 24hrs of clinical practice in the obstetric unit at the hospital. The Board accepted this and issued my license.

Passed the NCLEX - Foreign educated Nurse
Hi No, you don't need to take additional courses to have your degree evaluated by CGFNS. However, when you receive your CES Report it may say you are deficient in certain areas. For Australian educated nurses these areas usually are pediatrics, mental health and/or obstetrics/maternity. Whether or not you are deficient in certain areas depends entirely on what theory courses you did at university and in what areas you did your clinical practice. What State Board do you want to apply too? Each State Board have different requirements. This is my story..... I applied to CGFNS for a CES Report. I applied to Virginia State Board. I was found to be deficient in clinical hours for OB/Maternity. I contacted the Virginia State Board and spoke to them at length about my situation. They were extremely nice and very helpful. Despite lacking the OB/maternity hours clinical hours I was given permission to sit the NCLEX on the provision that when I passed it I would be issued a provisional license so that I could arrange to do the clinical hours I required. Once I completed these hours I would be given my full license. I passed the NCLEX, was issued the provisional license and I arranged to complete the clinical hours with the assistance of a local university. By the time I received my CES Report I was already living in the USA so I was able to complete the clinical hours I needed here in Virginia. My advice to you would be just apply for your CES report and see what it says. Hope this helps

Passed the NCLEX - Foreign educated Nurse
Hi Everyone I have often come to this site looking for help and so I wanted to post my NCLEX story as I thought it may help someone else. I have a Bachelor of Nursing from an Australian University. I just sat the NCLEX on Wednesday and found out the next day from the BON that I had passed!!!!! I have to be honest and say I did very little study. I borrowed some old NCLEX textbooks from a friend (2013) and used some free online resources. I have three kids 6 and under so I don't get much quiet time at all. I found the exam tough but I got through it. I am really looking forward to starting work now.

CES Report question
Thanks for your help. I have a degree from an Australian university but was able to sit the NCLEX without needing to do any bridging subjects. You really need to check with the BON in the state you want to became registered in.

CES Report question
I am really hoping someone on here may be able to help me. I have a Bachelors of Nursing from an Australian university. On my CES report it states that my Bachelors degree is the equivalent on an American diploma of nursing. My husband is a hospital trained nurse from the UK. On his CES report it states that his training is the equivalent on an American diploma of nursing. How can CGFNS say that my husband and my education is the same? I have a university degree and he does not. I have tried to speak to CGFNS about this but have had no luck getting an answer. The person they said I need to speak too wont return my phone calls or emails. I really want to do further study here in the US but I need to have the equivalent of a BSN to do it. Thanks
