Loans for living expenses
I was wondering if anyone could advise me on what you have done regarding taking out loans for living expenses (rent/food/gas etc)? I will be starting school soon (accelerated 2-year program) and have received scholarships that will cover most of my tuition, however I will still have additional living expenses and several thousand to cover for remaining school fees. I am not sure what the best loan options would be for this, and how easy it is to apply loans/scholarships towards living expenses. I currently have great credit. I anticipate needing to take out around $20-30k total for the 2 years. I do not anticipate being able to work during my program, aside from a few off-shifts during semester breaks. I would rather have some debt and be able to focus 100% on my clinicals and studies during the program at this time. Any advice and feedback from your experiences is greatly appreciated!

UVA CNL 2020
I was also accepted, I'm so excited!!! @psychiatricnurse998: I also talked to several people from prior cohorts who said waitlisted people ended up getting in. It's definitely worth trying and being waitlisted means you are still qualified and an awesome candidate.

Does anyone remember if they said decisions will be posted this Friday? I THINK they told me that during the interview, but I'm hoping I didn't make that up haha. The wait is so hard!! Hoping we all get good news soon!

UVA CNL 2020
I'm 27. I think it's cool how the program attracts people from a wide age range! I went to an info session and the prior CNL groups seemed pretty varied in age.

No, I didn't. I was thinking of emailing them to confirm next week if we don't receive one.

@orneryscientist That's awesome! PNW is amazing, I visited for the first time recently. I'm in my second year of surgery/transplant research -- mix of device and drug sponsored and investigator initiated trials for lung, liver, and kidneys. My work is a mix of patient consent/follow-up and regulatory. I've been learning more about study start-up this year. The surgeries have been the most exciting part for me though!

@orneryscientist I was looking around old forums and it looks like last year people received their requests around late November for interviews in December. This year, interviews look like they will be later so I'm wondering if we won't hear anything until December. The CNL page says decision notifications will be in February! That's awesome you're in clinical research too! What kind of work are you doing?

I'm also applying this cycle! I would love to connect with anyone else who is too. I'm currently working on my last stats prereq and finishing up my application. I moved to Virginia recently and have been working on finishing up my prereqs. Before moving here, I worked in various healthcare research and community outreach roles in NYC and Boston and as a Peace Corps health volunteer. I've been considering returning to school for nursing for awhile and was really excited to discover the UVa CNL program as it encompasses so much and has such great clinical opportunities. I'm really hoping to work as a nurse with the Indian Health Service after school and I think the CNL route would be great preparation for this.
