Really? First, I am talking about the procedure, not the equipment. Second, any chance of an NG tube ending up in a lung field is huge to me. Naso suctioning enters the same point as an NG tube, travles the same initial path as an NG tube, and NG tubes DO often end up in lungs, that's why you check positioning before putting anything in them. I posted that pointing out a quirk, I think that NG should be sterile, and I know several other nurses, instructors, and students agree. So what I am saying is if one procedure is sterile why not both.

I wonder why an NG is clean and suctioning is sterile, NG has a huge chance of veering off into a lung.

Conversions you just have to memorize, med term, for the most part you can find a word or letter in the medical form that is related to an everyday word, hypernatremia, "hyper" is always more than "na" is the chem symbol for sodium, "emia" is an abnormal blood condition, hypernatremia is too much sodium in the serum blood level. Look at it as a puzzle and make it fun. Hypocaffeinemia is someones log in name on here, not enough coffee I suspect.

Thanks for that information, I may consider the reserves and ultimately becom an LDO or "mustang" officer, with the reserves I would have my home life and my military fix as well. My exp with the navy is that they don't really give much time for education.

I am planning to get me BSN, I was hoping to find a way for the military to pay for it, my GI bill expired Oct 2010. I have no prior health care experience. I just really miss the military way of life and would love to get it back somehow.

The navy has a "green side" which provides all of the medical coverage for the marines in the field, they train with marines, live with the marines, eat with the marines, and if necessary die with the marines. For all practical purposes they are marines.

Any one have info on what my options would be of becoming a military nurse with only an associates in MAY 2012? I talked to a USNR recruiter and he was blowing some LDO crap my way, I'm prior enlisted ten years ago.
