Got to use my neuro skills in real life!
Yikes!!!!! Your heart was obviously in the right place! Don't take everyones input so personally though.... its important to try to learn from every experience, what was right, what was wrong, and all the countless possibilities, no matter how remote, of what else could have happened in fall with impact to the head/neck.

Confused. Dont want to burn bridges.
Thats a tough one! Weighing one real job versus one offered...... I love the ER and think its a great place to start, equipping you with a wide array of skills and patients, and stressful situations. My advice would be, start with what you got, stay a year, and then switch. Tell the OB people that you have a responsibility to fulfill at your current job and ask for them to keep you in mind. Thats just me though! Best of luck j

Splinting?
Hi all, I am about to start a new job in an non-teaching ED, where I will have to do all/most wound care and splinting etc. Are there any online tools I can use before I start my job? Thanks! j

Passed the CEN! Yay! Some thoughts
I passed too! Took it today, July 25th, and got 108/150.... which is not really the best, but passing! I used only two tools, Mark Boswells youtube videos, which were great, and the ENA exam practice questions, many of which were very similar to the actual test. The hardest parts I thought were on electrolyte type things, what causes hypo/hyper everything, and s/s of basically all those conditions. Good Luck everyone! Thanks Mark Boswell, you are a great aide to CEN test takers world (USA) wide! Is the CEN only for US practice? J

Some basics on Peds ED stuff
its curious that you're curious about my curiousity.... we have a separate peds ed, but they are moving to a different site in the hospital, and as this transition happens, we need to be more prepared for displaced families and EMS........

Some basics on Peds ED stuff
Allo, So I'm working in an adult only ED, and feel like I'm missing out on some very important basic Peds for ER type stuff. Can anyone give me a bunch of hints/tips? Like what are some serious emergencies and how do you manage them? Meds and doses for seizures and the like.... how the heck you get a tiny IV in that tiny vein. thanks!

advice needed ED travel nursing in Bay Area
Hello all, It seems like an impossible task, to get any sort of work in the Bay Area, let alone a travel gig. I was wondering if anyone had any advice for an ED RN with 1 year of experience looking to work in and around the Bay Area.... which companies have good contacts... how to proceed etc. Thanks! Germs

Nurse Illness
question, do ED nurses get sick more often than other nurses? I feel like its every other shift that I hear a nurse say, oh damn, that person is on droplet/contact precaution now? I was up in their space for hours! Thoughts? I use gloves for all contact with pts...... if I brush skin on skin, I instantly go and wash my hands, which I do all the time anyway.

What's your patient load?
Dang. sounds nice

What's your patient load?
I'm still orienting but I take on about 5-6 patients. Normally we will have 6-7 sometimes 8. I work in NYC. What are the ratios in other states or hospitals? 7 patients is crazy! Granted, not all are super sick, but still, time management is one of the top skills needed, perhaps the hardest for a new nurse. Thoughts?

If a phlebotomist corrected you on order of draw, what would you do?
Talk to the manager. this needs to be an educational topic for all nurses on the floor.

Best online collaboration with other students
I graduated in May, but I just wanted to say that Dropbox really helped me and my classmates out when having to collaborate on projects, articles or powerpoints... Does anyone use anything else instead of this? ciao

Question on skin to skin touching
I noticed that the nurses I worked with while in school would routinely touch the patient with their bare hands, while I felt much more comfortable wearing my gloves. What are your thoughts on this, while doing an ed assessment, gloves? It just seems much safer and cleaner to me.

Looking for an established nurse to review a new grad's resume!
I would put where you did your rotations what skills you used on your previous jobs/ volunteer give it a slightly more personal touch

Rant about licenses
Sooooo I took my NCLEX on may 2nd, PVT pop up, schools sent in transcripts may 17th. I called the CA BON and they said it will take at least two more weeks. I also have moved to NYC and will need to transfer my license, which they said would take at least 6 more weeks after that. Why the hell does it take so long? People need jobs, they dont need to wait around for what should be electronically verified in a second.
