BHSN or GWCC 2012?? Pros and Cons to programs?
I picked BHSN over GW without hesitation and I live about 1 mile from the new GWCC they just built :) I might be biased though because I want to do acute care when I am done & Bridgeport is a hospital based program in an acute care setting. Also, I like the schedule better, the fact that Bridgeport Hospital has the only burn center in CT & I'll get experience with that, and I just got a much better vibe from the staff there. I am a very type A person and BHSN just seemed to fit what I was looking for as far as being well organized, receptive to all of my questions and just really had their you-know-what together :)

BHSN: Applying to Bridgeport Hosp for Fall 2012
For those of you who have filled out your FAFSA.... I did mine about 3 weeks ago & got a confirmation that they received it & reviewed it. When do we hear anything else? All I really want to make sure about is that I am eligible for regular, unsubsidized loans. Does anyone know if we hear back from BHSN about that or what? I am so excited I can hardly contain myself Hope everyone on the waitlist hears back soon- this must be absolutely killer to have to wait so long!!!! GOOD LUCK!

BHSN: Applying to Bridgeport Hosp for Fall 2012
I want to go to the open house too. Hopefully I am off work that day. And no, you're not weird for wanting another letter. I want one too :) It makes me nervous that we don't get some sort of letter back saying they received your check & form, etc and that you are good to go. C'mon, late May!!! No one knows whether they got day or night yet, right?

BHSN: Applying to Bridgeport Hosp for Fall 2012
Ben, I think you have a pretty good shot at getting in too. I saw on last year's thread that a LOT of people didn't get acceptance letters until March. Fingers crossed for you & let us know the second you hear something!!!

BHSN: Applying to Bridgeport Hosp for Fall 2012
Nope, haven't been yet either. Pre-NursingStudent: I think you have a pretty good shot at getting in. As far as all the spots being taken, I had some issues with transcripts & AP scores making it there & was VERY nervous about the same thing. As of Feb 16th when I spoke to them, only 31 spots had been filled. There is still hope. And if you don't get in, it won't be the end of the world. (Although it DOES seem that way.) I didn't get in last year & even had my parents say "well, it must not be meant to be! oh well" pft! I busted my butt, studied, took Chem over again because I had the EXACT same situation as you with a C+ in a very hard Chem, got an A the next time around, applied again & got in. Keep your chin up. I don't think it's out of the question that you will get in and even if you don't, there is always next year. If you want it badly enough, you WILL make it happen. Chin up!! Let us know as soon as you hear something.

BHSN-Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing Fall 2011
OK, so this may be a little bit psycho... but I just read through all 49 pages of this thread. I got my acceptance letter today & am DYING for any and all info. A lot of you have posted a ton of scheduling/accelerated option/books info & it has been SUCH a huge help! Questions for any of the students from the fall of 2010 class (if you are still reading): Did you get hired by Bridgeport? Does anyone know if they still do the 2 year contracts? If you are going into a BSN bridge program, when can you start applying to those if you went to BHSN? And lastly, when to you sit for the NCLEX? A lot of questions, I know, but I can hardly contain myself :w00t: Any and all comments and/or advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks in advance.

Ready to Apply CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2012
This is the first year they are doing 75/25 instead of 50/50! Pretty sweet, huh?! Yes, I married an "R" so I feel your pain So, they just say "met" and the date they were met, with no grades in the middle between where the class is listed & "met" is at? That's what mine says too. Last year everything was posted March 6th as far as grades go, so hopefully we have ours posted soon!!!

BHSN: Applying to Bridgeport Hosp for Fall 2012
Well, five weeks later, my AP scores (to get credit for the Eng requirement) have been overnighted to Bridgeport. Hopefully my application will go into review Tuesday & I'll be posting good news on here soon :) Talk about down to the wire, huh? Now, must try not to have a stroke in the meantime And I love the answer from the guy at AP services as to why my scores still haven't been mailed out: "Well ma'am, they are from nineteen ninety NINE." He said it with the same emphasis as would be expected if my archived scores were from 1876. lol. Sweet, I'm a hundred :uhoh21:

Ready to Apply CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2012
mssjez- ahhhhhh, i see said the blind man :) i was thinking you had a better shot than that! lol. i will keep my fingers crossed for you! i'm glad they changed it to 75% rank, 25% lotto this year, hopefully that helps. saramisu- i took a lot of classes outside the cc system & every single one of them transferred in. i was told that as long as the school has regional accreditation, it transfers in just fine. i'll be shocked if your classes from st joe's don't transfer. did both of your transcripts show up on the rn app status page today or somewhere else? if the rn app status page, are your last names at the beginning of the alphabet?

Torn between 2 schools
I'd do what you REALLY want to do. I was in your exact same shoes 7 years ago & chose not to "wait it out" and take more courses to increase my GPA, etc to get into nursing. Now I have a degree in a field I don't want to be in, have taken all of my pre-requs over again because they're all older than 5 years, and am back applying to nursing. It would have been a 1-2 year wait if I did it the other way, now it's been a 7+ year wait (like a decade by the time I finish!) Unless you are going to school for something that DEFINITELY pays really well and would make you just as happy, I say go for it. You'll be able to pay off the difference & you'll be happier in the long run. (IF nursing is what you really want to do & only you know that in the pit of your stomach.) Follow your gut... Just my

Ready to Apply CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2012
Yes, freaking out. But there's no way to guess your rank without knowing what other people are applying wtih. And those are pretty good stats, did you mean one of the first 9 spots or last? I'd think that'll be toward the top third of applicants, not the bottom. I think you have a pretty good chance, so try not to freak out just yet :) Yes, WAY easier said than done. Last year people had NGPAs and course grades listed the first week of March, so we don't have too much longer to see how they calculated everything. I'm freaking out as much as you, I just want to know how they calculate my NGPA. Our stuff is pretty similar, A in A&PI, 87.3 TEAS V, and I THINK 3.65 GPA the way they calculate it. I totally should've replaced my math with a lower math and got an A in it & I'd have a much better shot. Kinda kicking myself in the orifice right now for that :/

Ready to Apply CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2011
Never know, all just depends on the applicant pool. Unfortunately, previous degrees do not count for anything. They DO calculate your GPA differently. It's not just your whole undergrad GPA. They do EVERYTHING within the past 5 years, no matter if they use it as a class that counts for the degree with them or not and anything older than 5 years that counts toward what they use. (example: I graduated college in '06, so the only thing they will use from my B.S. is what they use for their program, which is English, Psych, Math. Then all the classes from the past five years, even a Chem elective they don't need, count too.) Does that make sense? They calculate this GPA as 50% of your overall "ranking", 25% is from A&P I grade, 25% TEAS score. And 75% of the applicants they accept are based on ranking, 25% lottery system from all eligible applicants. So, even if you don't have the highest ranking, there is still a shot of getting in. HTH.

I could really use some advice and opinions
xinspiredx said verbatim what i was going to write, so i won't re-state it.... i would wait it out, study your buns off for that teas & jump on it in two years. it'll be a real bummer if you don't get the gpa up enough and then end up right back where you are now, needing to wait even longer to re-start. you've already shown that you can handle the work, academically and professionally, and you will do just fine. the hard part is having the patience. (so hard!!) i would honestly wait & take the "safe" road if i was you. best of luck!!!!

A&P 2 What part was the hardest for you?
Also... For what it's worth, I also thought A&P I was harder.
