  1. Bueller, Bueller....anyone have any information? lol!
  2. Hi! I am looking to relocate from southern NJ by Philadelphia to the St. Augustine, Florida area. I have about 1 1/2 years emergency department experience...anyone have an idea of how much I can expect salary wise? I have my associates degree and will have my BSN completed by October of this year. I also have BLS, ACLS & PALS. I know I won't get paid as much as I currently am, but I'm afraid the pay cut might be more than my family can handle. I've spoken with a few HR departments in the area in Florida but salary was only discussed at one so far and it was substantially lower so I am looking to see what the areas average pay is. Any information is appreciated. Thank you!
  3. I got the ER job!!!!! I'm soooooooo excited!! Thanks for the advice everyone!!
  4. Congrats and best of luck to you!!! How exciting!!! I'm a new grad and have an interview for an ER position tomorrow...any tips?
  5. Good luck with the NP!!! I agree, it makes no sense at all that they assist you in obtaining an NP but then don't guarantee a position. You'd think they would want to get their money back with you working for them!! Odd indeed!
  6. Thank you for such a great post!!! I have a lot of that on my list of things to say/ask and a lot I didn't but will add right now!! When I spoke to someone earlier that has worked for this hospital I said pretty much what you said I should say...that I know enough to know that I don't know everything. I know I am a blank slate for them, I have no bad habits and can be trained exactly how they want me to be trained and I know I will literally work nonstop until I am the best I can be at my job. Thank you so much for your post! :0)
  7. I'm surprised they don't institute a work requirement being they're having a problem. I'm paying out of pocket for my education now so I would hope that would simply convey my desire to further myself and not that I am looking for a hospital to foot the bill. I genuinely want this position for the right reasons, because I want to work in the ER. I also am genuinely continuing my education because I want to better myself as an RN. I hope if I am asked these types of questions that I convey it properly. Thank you for your post!!
  8. Yes, I've done my homework and know what type of ER they are and their usual pt. Definitely doing my homework! I was able to speak with someone who used to work in that same hospital today who also advised not mentioning any plans of education beyond the RN-BSN I am currently enrolled in. Rationale being that I am furthering the nurse that I already am with the BSN but any potential plans for an NP would mean I am looking to get out of the position I am applying for, which makes sense the way she said it to me for sure. My interview is tomorrow and I'm excited, yet nervous! Thank you for your post!!
  9. Makes total sense, thank you! I'm in an RN-BSN program already like I mentioned and it's on my resume but I won't bring it up unless they ask me for sure!! Thank you!!
  10. I am a new graduate and I have an interview for an ER position this week that I REALLY want to get. What questions should I ask and what are some things I should say to help my odds during the interview? Thank you for any and all advice!!! I'm really really hoping I can get this job it would be amazing experience for me.
  11. Good luck in 120! I loved 120, don't know of anyone who didn't!! Keep studying hard and you'll do great!!
  12. I'm sorry I didn't respond to my own post! I'm buried with school work...I'm sure you can all relate to that! But I apologize all the same. I won't graduate until May 2013, hoping by then things change at least a little. I do intend on immediately enrolling in the RN-BSN program so I'm also hoping that helps too. I will start looking for a position in a hospital as a tech of some kind when I get closer to graduation if that will help...would hate to have my RN and no job in which to use it as I know many people have found themselves recently. Thanks for answering me everyone and again, sorry I haven't checked in more recently.
  13. Good luck everyone! I'm in the BCC program now, just started this semester and while it is hard, I love it very much! I was so anxious waiting for my letter too so I know how you all feel. Take a deep breath and try to relax...and then run to your mailbox everyday the minute you see the mail come! lol! I did!!! Good luck guys!!
  14. I'm currently in an associates program and am wondering if anyone who has earned their RN from one recently has gotten a job and if so in what time frame? I plan to continue on for my BSN, but want to work as an RN as I'm earning my BSN...but I'm scared I won't find a job. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.
  15. If you take all the classes this fall and apply in November you are fine, they don't look at the actual grades until after the semester ends in December but you need to apply on November 1 as the applications are taken in the order they are received and the first ones in that meet the requirements they're looking for are the "winners". I hope you and your family stay safe as well :0) Best of luck this fall, you can do it just keep your nose to your desk!!
  16. Hi! They like to see all pre-req's finished before being admitted. So if you took all 5 of your remaining classes this fall and applied this coming Fall to start Fall 2012 you would most likely get in (if you have good grades and live in county of course). I will tell you that I did that same combination of classes last fall myself and that finished up my pre-req's. I mailed my application Nov 1 and I did get accepted and am starting the program this wednesday. BUT I have to tell you unless you are very organized and determined that it is a hard combination of classes to do, let alone manage to do well. I did manage that but it took a lot to do it for me. Micro and A & P II are the hard combo part and I guess it depends on which Professors you get. I did have to sit out the spring semester being I had finished all the required classes, but that seems to be the normal routine for all who get accepted from what I can tell. If you split up the classes to do them over 2 semesters then you would need to apply to start Spring 2013, which is probably what they would recommend as I know they don't recommend doing that combination of classes knowing it is hard to do well at from all I've heard and experienced. From what I'm told I'm in the rare group who managed to do it...but at the cost of family time, additional grey hair and lots of coffee!! lol!! So if you apply during the semester you will finish your last pre-req class you will typically be accepted for that application, but you'll sit out a semester the way it is set up. Just study hard and keep the goal in mind and you'll get there! It felt like it would never happen for me but it is and I couldn't be happier about the next level of stress I'm about to experience! lol!!
  17. Hi! My Dr.'s office called days after I left and they had the tetorifice shot. I'm all set! Sorry you have a HepB situation! Hopefully it worked this time. I'm leaving Sunday for a week in Disney with my family, a last hooray before we start school and my daughter starts school. Can't wait for vacation and I can't wait to start classes! I will be there on 8/22 and I can't wait to hear what they have to say! Looking forward to meeting some of you guys! My stethoscope was finally delivered today, (took about a month due to an inventory issue they said) it's so exciting!!! lol!! See you guys at orientation!
  18. I'm starting the nursing program at Burlington County College this coming fall, a little over a month from now! I was just wondering if anyone who is currently in the program or has graduated in the past few years from the program could tell me what the first year is like. Any advice, comments or helpful tips would be appreciated! Thank you!:)
  19. Hi guys! I ordered my stethoscope from medisave last week and haven't gotten it yet...hope all is ok with my order being naen seemed to get it faster. I'll have to check. The BCC book store called and my name tags are in, I'll go pick them up tomorrow or the next day. All I have left is the shoes, I will check out Sears, thanks! We're planning a last minute family vacation to Disney mid-August to surprise my daughter so I'm going to start my reading soon so that I have plenty of time to make sure I know all we're supposed to know for the first class. When we got the letters the fall semester seemed so far away now it seems like it is coming up fast! I got my physical, just waiting on the blood work to come back and the tetorifice is on backorder through the state or something they said...anyone else have that issue? They put me on the top of their list to get it done as soon as it comes in, but nervous it won't get here in time...anyone else??? We're on our way guys!!!!
  20. You have to order 2 name tags. That's a shame you had to lug everything around like that I asked about the name tags being it says in our packet that we need to order them. They filled out a special receipt and order form, I paid for them and they said they'd call me when they were in. I have not heard from them as of yet but planned to call next week if I don't get a call first. I'm going to shop around for shoes too, where I work I can wear clog style or white sneakers so I don't have the proper shoes yet. I found my stethoscope cheaper online on medisave.net I have my appt for my physical this coming monday and will do whatever blood work is needed the same day being I work very close to a lab. I think I'm set..but will triple check a few times I'm sure! lol! Let me know where you find shoes and if I find mine first I'll let you know! I'm just picturing having to lug all of that in a ridiculous rain we've had! ugh! I don't envy that at all!
  21. Love the advice about the neck itch! lol! Hysterical! I'm thinking guarding it with my life, engraving it and picking a color I like but isn't common might increase my odds of keeping it a long time! Thanks everyone!! :)
  22. Thanks for all the replies guys this is great! I love the stories about them walking away and reappearing! Apparently Dr.'s have sticky fingers but it seems their collections do get returned eventually! Pretty funny! I think it seems color isn't the issue to stand out so much as personalizing and not laying it around for sticky fingers to get at it! Tha is so much!
  23. WOW! A tip of the hat to you for having it that long, that must be a record from everything I've learned about them walking so far! It will be my goal to be able to say the same thing one day! Nice to know they can last a long time with some love and care! :redpinkhe
