  1. Hello!! I'm level 1 ACC ADN student. Third week of clinicals in San Marcos and really enjoying it. I am learning so much. We have our final exam this Wed. in Fundamentals and start med-surg a week from this Monday. The time is flying! If you have any specific questions, I will be happy to answer them for you.
  2. I wish I would have made my instructors elaborate more on the issue of malpractice when we were studying legal issues. We are told what a noble career nursing is... and by the way you may get sued. Maybe it's my mood today, but I'm seriously re-evaluating whether I want to go through with this degree. I am in level 1 and so far it's been pretty great. I start my clinicals this Thursday. I have such a crappy attitude today. I don't want to view my patients as liability cases and a threat to me but yes, patients who could potentially sue me "just because" (we were told we could do everything right and still have someone go after us) is a huge threat to my family and me. I want to ask my instructors to remind me "why I should I become a nurse again?" Other than it being a "noble". Can someone give me some perspective? Thanks!!
  3. I'm into my third day of the Level 1 ADN program. So far things were great! I even got the clinical location I wanted. Well...we had a 25 questions practice test on basic nursing skills to get comfortable with testing format (which was not a problem) and to see were we stand with basic knowledge.I totally blew it! I got a 73%. Our grading scale is 75% is failing. I went back and changed the answers to 4 questions. My first choices on all 4 were right. I don't know why on earth I did that. I would have only gotten 3 wrong instead of 7. :imbar The bad part is the questions were so basic, like systolic verses diastolic! The grade doesn't count but the instructors are looking at this for a reason. I am so mad at myself. Just needed to vent. I am really hard on myself when I make stupid mistakes. If I'm starting out this way, how in the $%^& am I going to make it through the next 16 week?
  4. Oopsy, You did say you tried to order one from the company! My mistake!
  5. Go to www.hesitest.com Study tools, and you can order the HESI admission study guide for $25.00. I used it and it really helped me. :)
  6. Hello! Well I'm going to try this again! My darn computer locked up earlier, right before I was going to email my response to you. The ACC program I have been told is excellent. That's why I chose it! Lots of practical expierence. I have talked with various nurses and physicians that had great comments about ACC nurses. I think all the instructors are probably really good, I've been advised by friends ahead of me on which instructors to try to avoid because they are well...lets just say "testy". I'll just suck it up. I have worked so hard to get it in, I'm not going to fail now. (By the way, Physiology II was a !$#@%! I was warned by fellow students before I took it and they weren't kidding.) I had an instructor in nursing skills that made me so nervous. It never failed, I would always get her do my mastery check offs. She had my partner and me on the brink of tears one time and I was 39 years old at the time! My classmates would say "I don't want so and so, for check off." I just decided to quit being so thin skinned and dive in and just do it! Things improved from that day. By the end of the five weeks I really liked her. She instructs 2nd semester nursing and I am going to try to get her for clinics! Are you finished with your prereqs? If not, what do you have left? I hope this helped!
  7. Veggiegarden. I guess I applied about 2 years ago. I have lost track of time. At the time I applied I was 168 on the list. I seemed to move up pretty fast as I finished my prereqs. Anyway, once I was in, I had to defer twice because I had to take physiology II and had a hard time getting into a night class. I finally finished physio last fall and decided to take a break from school for a semester. I will be starting the ADN program in 3 weeks. I know the review list is long but hang in there. Good luck to you!
  8. Hello! Just wondering if there is anyone else out there starting 1st semester nursing at ACC this fall?
  9. Hello Jimmmy! It's a little late on the response but I just discovered this website. I am also starting the ACC ADN program this fall. My best guess is to make sure you know your dosage calculations. Go the The ADN Homepage, then Students, and then Level 1 Bulletin. There are 5 dosage reviews. I take that as a really big hint! Also, review your stuff from Nursing Skills! I think the instructors will get frustrated if we don't at least know the basics, Oh and PERSON! Remember that? Explore the Bulletin page, there is a lot of info. Maybe I'll see you at orientation in August! Good Luck! Terry If God brings you to it, He'll help you through it!
