UK nurse trying to register in Ontario
I think they are trying to say that they are going to submit your information with/without the bits that are missing. I had a similar situation, the university that i did my nursing at no longer carried a course description of my nursing course as it was nearly 20 years ago. The CNO (case manager) kept insisting i get it, and i kept insisting it did not exist. Fortunately there was a great lady at the university who helped me out and wrote a letter stating that the course description no longer existed. I sent this letter to the case manager and it was submitted with th rest of my information. This seemed to do the trick. As you are limited for time, see if you can get someone (whoever you have been corresponding with) and see if they can write a similar letter and email it, as it is quicker (see if cno will except an email) or if the post it make sure it has the schools letter head/or stamp on it.

Irish nurse failed CRNE 1st time-can i work as a grad nurse?
Thank you MDM340. My nursing qualifications was a 3 year diploma but i had done further education in the UK e.g ENB courses, Non Medical Prescribing etc. I did not pay for anything myself, it was all continued professional development, paid for by the service i was working for within the NHS. If you can show that you have worked at degree level and/or have plenty of experience in nursing, which i'm sure you have with over 20yrs in nursing, then it is worth submitting your qualifications if you think you have a strong enough case. The immigration process was quick, about 3 months, but that does depend on your circumstances, i am married to a Canadian. BUT the CNO are slow in my experience, i would say from purely the nursing aspect it has taken about 21/2 years to get to this point for me. I'm sure other peoples were faster depends on your situation i suppose, but i found my CNO case manager my obsticle, and of course the CNO have a lot of people to process, so waiting for answers/mail/ and things to be posted from another country is slow! so i was glad i didn't leave the U.K too soon. I took my exam on June 6th, (you can only take it in Canada) i was planning to relocate once i had been submitted for the exam so i would not be out of work for long but it didn't work out that way, once i relocated to Canada it has been about a year to get to this point. I also have 2 other friends from diffferent countries who's time frames are very similar. So i would say if you are seriously thinking of it apply sooner rather than later and see where you stand, you do not really need to relocate until everything is set in stone, but once you have passed they will want to know what your residence staus is in Canada, so you will have to have all your "ducks in a row."

Irish nurse failed CRNE 1st time-can i work as a grad nurse?
Hi, I was a RN in the UK (for 17 years) without a degree. I have just taken and passed the CRNE, and awaiting registration as a RN in Ontario. So it can be done with experience and further education.

Scottish nurse looking into Canada - do I need a degree?
I have a diploma in nursing and have recently taken the RN exam. The CNO will require your transcripts but if you did a 3 year diploma it will include your theoretical and clinical hours and you would have covered peads, obs etc in your training, so you will have met some of the criteria. I have been nursing for 17 years also in adult nursing. It will be easier for you once you have finished your degree if you want to register as an RN as opposed to an RPN. If you do not want to wait you need to show that you have degree level knowledge e.g in further education you have taken post qualifying, and in experience. It would be easier to wait but it can be done if you don't. Be aware that the process is a long one as they will require a lot of information from you and sending info between Canada and Scotland takes time, along with the time it takes them to process the information (hence starting sooner rather than later with your application is advisable if you have a time frame in which you want to emigrate). This is my experience in applying in Ottawa, Alberta may be different.

Irish nurse failed CRNE 1st time-can i work as a grad nurse?
In my experience, once it goes to the regisration committee they will look over all the information you have sent, and ask for futher information they feel they require. This does not nessecarily mean you will not qualify as long as you can provide them what they ask for. They asked for more information from me and when it went back the next letter i was sent said i was eligible to write the exam.

Irish nurse failed CRNE 1st time-can i work as a grad nurse?
Hi Lols Ireland, I am also an international nurse from the uk and am due to take my exam in June 2012. What is the pass mark then? Any tips you can give me i would very much appreciate as there is sooo much to study. I have been in Canada since July 2011 and have found it very difficult to get any form of work without certification or canadian experience of some kind. I'm just hoping that when i pass (positive thinking and optimism, lol) My experience may help me get a job.

UK nurse trying to register in Ontario
Hi, I had the same experience as you, i did a dip he and qualified in 1995, 16 years ago, i have taken various courses including my non medical prescribing. I commenced my application to the CNO in 2010, they have also made me jump through hoops, i had references and job descriptions from all the places i'd worked over the 16 years, fortunately i knew how to contact people and was on good terms with all. I took their bacculareate equivilency essays, i got transcripts, certificates etc from the ukcc and universities and it took until December 2011 for them to finally let me take the exam. The uni had sent transcrpts with hours of study and clinical hours but unfortunately could not give the CNO theoretical and course content as they did not have acssess to the information any longer, they had lost it. The uni sent them a letter from the course director saying this is all the information they posses and do not hold any more info. The CNO wrote back 6 months later asking for more information!! They want all the information you can physically get hold of it doesn't matter how much experience you have, they are trying to decide wether your training is equivilent to theirs, it is very frustrating as we clearly have a lot of experience under our belts and are far more knowledgable than a new grad, but they will not get past this. In the end the university to wrote a letter stating that they do not hold or cannot provide any more information they also sent a copy of the confirmation that i had passed the course, (i don't know why they could'nt accept the 1st letter) this seemed to do the trick, i have decide to sit the exam in June 2012 to give me plenty of time to study. Also for your information, it is not the CNO that you send your information to that make the decision your case manager sends the information to be assessed externally, keep on top of your case manager because you want to make sure you do not go to the bottom of the pile each time you send more information in, i contacted mine regularly to get progress reports, i know they have many cases to deal with but on this occassion you have to be selfish. Your case doesn't seem too different to mine so hopefully you will get to write, and hopefully it doesn't take them as long to decide. If you need any more info feel free to ask. Good luck

RN Temporary Class Advice
Your right, i had a long hard struggle with them to get to take the crne, i had all my certicates, references from everyone i worked with, job descriptions for 16 years of nursing practice, info from universities, governing bodies their equivalency table etc and they gave me the run around for nearly 2 years! Once i've taken my exam i'm aoing to write a nice long detailed letter asking why when everything is in order does it take 6 months for them to write back asking for more information, information they already had! Amongst other issues i had with them. I am a person that feels we should be rigirous when verifying peoples qualifications as there have been many horror stories out there BUT i do also believe that they need to streamline and review their processes, and the person between you and your career. When i started thinking about coming to Canada they were crying out for nurses, if it takes this long to process and application i can see why. They are definately going to hear from me.

RN Temporary Class Advice
Hi, I wonder if anybody can help me with some information. I am an RN from the U.K and have finally been told i can take the crne, i have applied for June, i thought whilst i was waiting i would apply for registration in the temporary class (i do meet all the criteria) so i am not out of nursing for too long. I rang the CNO to equire how i go about this and apparently i have to be offered a job first and then i can apply for temporary registration. My dilemma is this: all jobs ask for registration so what would/could i put on my resume to say that i'm not yet registered but could be if i'm offered a job and also that i am waiting to take the exam? It's abit of a catch 22,:no registration,no job offer, no job offer, no registration.....any ideas? Thanks in advance

Help! Advice needed please
Hi, I'm a British nurse in Ottawa waiting to have my qualifications verified by the CNO but need to work whislt i'm waiting. The CNO have had all my information since March when i was in England and i'm still awaiting an answer. I know i can't work as a qualified nurse but thought i would utilise my time productively and try and find a job in the Healthcare environment to enable me to learn more about the Canadian healthcare system. I am also in the process of filling out an application form to volunteer at the local hospital. My problem lies with the type of work i can do. I thought i would be able to get an "unqualified" post as a Personal support worker/Healthcare aide/Care worker etc. It seems from the jobs i am looking at you need to have certification in the particular field to apply for the jobs. a) Do i have to have one of these certifications to get such a job b) Do you think if i apply for these types of posts with my current qualifications they will reject my cv as i am "over qualified" c) I would appreciate any ideas or advice of jobs i could do whilst i'm waiting d) Does anyone know of any temping agencies i or what kind of avenues to try to get a job in healthcare. Any advice that would help me woud be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
