Bridging programs for IENs in Canada
Hi all, in trying to find out more on Info on SEC assessments and bridging program's to enable British trained nurses to gain a licence in Canada. Does anyone with first hand experience have any info they can share? I see from other posts at the majority of UK nurses are been asked to sit the SEC assessment pertaining to mental health and paediatrics, however has anyone been required to undertake a bridging program? What was required, I myself have a Bsc not higher diploma and I am really hoping this might edge it so I don't need to be assessed or undertake a bridging program but that could be naivety on my part Thanks

RN? RPN? LPN? What does it mean?
Can anyone tell me what RN, RPN and LPN stands for and what each means? I am a British nurse trying to find out as much as I can about Canadian healthcare an nursing, In UK I am a registered nurse, I qualified from university after 3 years and have a Bsc in nursing, I am unsure what category I would fall under in Canada? Thanks

I want to make the most of my time while waiting in the dark
Hi all, I'm a British nurse wanting to apply to sit the CRNE, I'm in the early stages of finding out information, I assumed I just had to apply and pay the fee to sit the exam? But from reading this thread I'm guessing this isint the case, could anyone give me more details? Thanks

British nurse writing CRNE - any help welcome.
Thanks, I wont be leaving my current job and going to Canada until I have an offer of employment, I don't expect the process to be easy but it can't be any worse than the job situation in the UK! What kind of assessment do IENs need to sit before eligibility to write the CRNE? Must this take place in Canada as well? Thanks Pamela

British nurse writing CRNE - any help welcome.
Hi all, I am a British nurse, qualified for four years and have finally finished my degree so now looking to apply to Canada. I am hoping to write the CRNE exams in October and was wondering if anyone had any advice on this? Is the exam all to do fundamentally with nursing care? Or are some questions Canada nursing specific, ie to do with the healthcare program's or anything that I would not necessarily know as I did not study to become a nurse in Canada? Thanks all

British nurse looking at working in Canada
Hi all, sorry not been on the site for a few weeks. I have decided to finish my degree before I apply as I think it will give me a better chance of being accepted, also the canadian government has put a six month hold on all federal skilled worker applications so we can apply until January for a visa anyways. I have been doing a lot of research it it, I have decided that when the time comes to apply I will choose 2 from BC, Alberta and Ontario, dependent on which province had the most chance of getting a job. I am also planning on taking a holiday to Canada early next year, I am wondering however if I should look into taking the CRNE when I come here on holiday however I am unsure on the validity of the CRNE, If I sit it in February 2013 how long does it stay valid before I would need to sit it again? Mark any questions fire ahead, can't promise I will be much help but trying to find out as much as j can as I am dead set on this, just the time and financial constraints that are difficult

Scottish nurse looking into Canada - do I need a degree?
Thanks, I emailed a few nursing boards and it seems the general consensus is to apply once I have my degree. The Canadian government has put a freeze the skilled worker program till January 2013 so I suppose that tallies up with when I will be applying but obviously I wish I could start the process just now as it looks like it is a very long drawn out process.

Scottish nurse looking into Canada - do I need a degree?
Thanks for your comment, Did you complete your higher diploma in the UK? I did cover some peads and mental health hours in my training but i am unsure if i have enough hours to qualify? Obviously i would rather apply sooner but i do not want to apply with only a higher diploma (even though i am 2/3 through my degree and hopefully will finish in December) and be rejected as the cost of applying to CARNA is almost £1000 and almost £500 for Ontario

Scottish nurse looking into Canada - do I need a degree?
I have contacted CARNA who advise i complete my degree before applying. I have been looking mostly at Alberta, communities such as Stettler and Medicine Hat i wouldnt consider too rural however the first nations communitiies i think are just a bot too rural for me. Can i ask, does Alberta have nursing agencies? and nurse bank? (Nurse bank in Scotland is similiar to an agency, it is an NHS workforce that can be joined as a first job or as a second job for nurses who all ready have a full time job and wish to pick up extra shifts as overtime)

Scottish nurse looking into Canada - do I need a degree?
I'm starting to worry now as my transcripts will only show general nursing practice, I have no OB experience (only midwives in uk work in this area) and with regards to peads I had a 7 week nursing placement with the community health visitor and some experience of peads when I was a student in A+E (or ER) mental health I encountered on all placements during university but none specific to the area

Scottish nurse looking into Canada - do I need a degree?
I was supposed to be attending a seminar called "working in canada" this weekend however it has now been cancelled, hence why i am trying to gather as much information as i can. I have never visited Canada, and have no family in the country so therefore i can only go by what i read online, I do not know the differences between the provinces, except obviously what i have read online. I would prefer an urban area however would take a more rural area if jobs were available. I completely appreciate that much like Scotland there will be nursing shortages all over Canada, and would never consider moving without an offer of employment. I am now concerned regarding the peds/OB/mental health experience. My degree is in Adult Nursing, and although i encounter all walks of life in my job (which is acute medical receiving) I do not have specified experience in anything other than Adult nursing (except some hours as a student)
