Anyone else get a call from a Nurse Recruiter at Virginia Hospital Center?
It's after. During the first interview I met with the PCD. Then like 15 minutes afterward the unit staff interviewed me. There were 3 staff members sitting in the interview. One Charge Nurse, The Assistant Patient Care Director, and a staff Nurse. I'm pretty sure after that I went right down with the PCD and did my drug screen at the lab the same day. If they are considering you after the in person interview they will give you a phone number to call and schedule your Talent Plus Interview. Then someone will call you and ask you personality based questions. Like do you smile a lot? Do you consider yourself a happy person? What are your thoughts on work flow? etc, etc. If they need you to repeat a question they can, but they can not elaborate on it or explain the question further. VHC utilizes Talent Plus because they want to make sure you fit their anchors of service and mission. One more reason they got recognized as top #100 of hospitals in US. The people who work there love it and are happy to be there, thus enhancing patient experience. So their interview process has a lot of steps :) There may be variations with the interviews such as if you get a coworker interview or not and whether things occur on the same day or not, but one thing I know for sure everyone who gets hired there must go through the Talent Plus Interview. At least that's the way it was until I left this past August.

Anyone else get a call from a Nurse Recruiter at Virginia Hospital Center?
Not very long at all. Maybe just a week or two from the time the Recruiter called me. I got an in person interview first and then the Talent Plus interview. They only offer you the Talent Plus if you do well at the first interview. Everyone hired at VHC has to go through it. The longest wait at VHC is just between the time you apply and the time they contact you with interest. I've applied there twice and each time it was 4-5 months from the time I applied. The first time I had already accepted another job so I declined when they called. The second time I left my current job at the time of two years to join with them at VHC. But both times it was a long wait after application. I stayed there for 6 months and then my husband got orders so moved to Colorado Springs in September. Good luck!! They're a great hospital to work for! They offer great resources.

New Grad/RN opportunities??
Congratulations! As soon as I accepted this position just a week later I got two calls from different hospitals for interviews, but I turned them down! Isn't that how it goes, you get an offer then all of a sudden you get calls. Anyway, they couldn't compete with the hours or pay, so it all worked out for the best! So, what unit are you going to be on?? I hope you're loving it!!!! -Katie

New Grad/RN opportunities??
I got hired in a doctor's office started last week. So just ended my second week. They're paying me $27 an hour...and although I initially wanted a hospital job....I L-O-V-E my job! It's a holistic medicine office and I'm learning a lot of stuff about various testing that hospitals don't do, accupuncture, etc. I'm getting great at blood draws too!!! I love the staff and the doctors! I'm couldn't be happier. I found the job on Craigslist! Can you believe that??? After all those stupid online applications I filled out literally hundreds for hospitals.

New Grad RN 2011
Thanks for your advice but I haven't found any career fairs or open houses. I'm in the Southern DC area. And I graduated from MO so my instructors and nursing school is absolutely no help here. Also have applied to everything even if it said experience required but have not gotten a single interview.

New Grad RN 2011
Do you have advice for someone with zero contacts in this entire state? I just moved to the southeastern side of DC and I was born, raised, lived my entire life until now, graduated nursing school in Missouri. Graduated Dec 11...still jobless and my husband and I are barely surviving on one income! HELP!

New Grad/RN opportunities??
I didn't see any new grad postings last time I checked. They called about a position I applied to a while back. They know I'm a new grad yet they called and told me they were placing my application under review...so I'm not sure if they're planning on taking new grads or they were just thinking about hiring me and were okay with having to orientate me or what.

Has anyone else recently gotten a call from Virginia Hospital Center. They called yesterday and my phone didn't ring. I got the voicemail and it was delayed an hour. I called back today and spoke to a nurse recruiter. Wondering if anyone else out there is in the same boat as me :)

Pearson Vue Trick - Does it Work Every Time? Part 2
Sounds like you passed! You got the good pop up. You finished in 75 questions...May I mind you it is very unlikely to fail at 75 questions. Also if you felt the test was super hard, that is also a good sign that you passed! I just took it on Feb 1st...I also go the good pop up. and I got my quick results this morning and I passed the NCLEX-RN!! The more easy questions you answer right the harder the questions get so feeling like you failed...means you most likely passed, especially since you had only 75 questions and you got the good pop up! Watch a movie...take a bubble bath...go get a massage! Relax! Best of Luck!

Anyone else ready to PASS the NCLEX in February!?!
I had at least 15 SATA questions...and one that was the list steps in order ....and one that had the exhibit "chart" to look at patient info to make a decision. My Kaplan instructor said that if you get a lot of SATA questions that means you're doing good because it's giving you harder questions when those show up. I didn't use my white board or headphones or earplugs at all! What is your state board of nursing?? How long till you find out? I'm in DC but my state board of nursing is Missouri...and MO has quick results through pearsonvue so I find out tomorrow! I hope you get to find out soon!

The Washington Hospital Center RN Residency program February 2011
My resume shows my achievements. I've always been an overachiever, and have never been shy. My father is the reason that I have wanted to be a nurse since I've been a little girl. He's had lung cancer since I was 5, but I don't tell ppl that b/c it is painfull to me. A lot of ppl from my small town think getting a mole cut off gives them a bragging right to call themselves a cancer survivor. They don't know what it's like to see or go through chemo/radiation/loose your hair/be vomiting everyday/ cough up so much blood it saturates the front of your shirt and you hide it from your kids b/c you don't want them to know daddy is sick....even though they know more than you think they do...have lung biopsies/cyberknife/collapsed lungs/ unconsciuos seizures for four days and suffer a stroke/ not be able to clean yourself up/ have you wife or daughter shower/bathe/and wipe your bottom for you/ feed you b/c you can't hold your own fork. Be poked/prodded like a science project. Have them cut off body parts and keep them in jars for future scientists to study. Have the doctors tell your family to say good bye everytime you end up in ICU b/c even the doctors don't have hope.Cry as you have your father/daughter dance and tell your daughter you are so happy b/c the doctors said you'd never make it here. And have that same daughter try to have children so that her father can hold them....never knowing how much longer he's got. All the while not being able to conceive, and just keeping a smile everytime he brings up the idea of grandchildren and how much he can't wait to have some, praying he gets his wish. A lot of my closest friends and even family don't know about a lot of this stuff b/c I don't tell them...I don't talk about it b/c its so painful to me. I've watch my daddy triumph and fall and triumph again. And I wholy believe he has survived and overcome b/c of his love for us. I didn't put why my passion for nursing started in my coverletter b/c I don't want to be chosen out of sympathy. You are someone who knows exactly what its like. And I will be praying your daughter continues to beat the cancer and her scans are "clean". No one deserves this...especially not someones child.

They say if you feel the questions were harder questions that is a good sign you passed. Because the more easy questions you answer right the harder the questions will get!

Anyone else ready to PASS the NCLEX in February!?!
I just took it today at 8 am in Alexandria, VA. Had 75 questions. I felt like the questions were way out of left field but I hope I passed! It was my first time!
