Hi, can I ask why you are transferring to UAB? Was your experience at Troy not a good one?

So how did everyone do this spring semester at Troy? Although some of the posters have said that the teachers were less than helpful, I have found that they were extremely helpful. I would say this past semester was very successful. I took Research Methodology and Leadership for a reference. I am scheduled to take Biostatistics and Nurse Theory this summer.

So excited I have my interview next week!!! Now I have to prepare a little for it! Let's keep each other posted during this journey!

Well, I am not sure if they do for the MSN/FNP program, but for the BSN-DNP /MSN-DNP program we have to be contacted for an interview.

Tellemae, have you had your interview yet? I have not taken advanced pharm or patho yet. I am supposed to be taking research and advanced nursing theory starting next week. I will see how that goes.

I am taking my classes with Liberty University Online. How about you? Where are you taking your classes? The classes at Liberty run for 8 week sub-terms. I love their format! I wish I could have a waiver for the GRE. No one at the school has mentioned it as an option for me. I really think that it is difficult for one test to determine how well a student will perform as a student nurse practitioner. I took the TEAS test before nursing school (still did not do great in math) but I graduated from nursing school with honors. I don't understand the high requirements placed on these pre-entrance examinations.

Hey, Nursebyfaith! Do you know how the GRE compares to the MAT? I wish I could have a waiver for the GRE. My problem is I did below average on the math portion of the exam. The verbal portion I did fine. My gpa is 3.84 :) I am registered to take two classes as well...Nursing theory, and a research class. These begin in October and finish in December. The director of the program said that these should transfer in without any problems. I live in San Antonio, Texas. Where are you from? I hope we are both accepted. I am worried about my math scores. All I can do is pray now. Taneka

Nursebyfaith, I just took the Gre today. Wow, that was hard! How did you do on the Gre? I wish that they did not take that exam into consideration. My gpa is very good, but it is because I work very hard for my grades. One of the faculty there told me that they are reconsidering having that exam as a requirement. A lot of schools do not require it any longer. Forgot to mention that I applied to Troy for their Spring 2015 admission.

Hi, Everyone! I am also planning to apply for the January/Spring class. I was so pleased talking with Dr. Spulock (director of BSN-DNP program) I still have to take the GRE. Have any of you taken the GRE? I am nervous about that exam.

Tasha, I really wish there was someone here on allnurses who is currently attending Simmons. I would love to know how the program is going so far. Also, I would like to know how difficult it is to manage work and school. I would like to go full-time but I don't want to be overwhelmed. It is nice that the learning is online interactive... Same professors and students. I really like that!

Hi, I have been following this thread and I am so glad I found it! I too am very interested in Simmons online program. The admissions advisor has been the friendliest and most professional advisor I have talked to. They are so prompt to return calls and thorough with information. Frontier was my number one choice for FNP school, but they are a little slow to return calls. Tasha, I hope you get accepted at Simmons. So far, it sounds like a great school. I do wish they offered the DNP though. I am scheduled to graduate next summer from my RN-BSN program, so I will start the application progress after the new year. I know that Simmons online is pretty new but I guess they will have a September cohort (I am hoping). Tasha, keep us posted regarding your applications! Best wishes, everyone! Taneka

Hi, jcr777. You can apply to Medical University of South Carolina, or The University of Arizona without any professional nursing experience. These are both online programs. There are other schools that accept applicants without experience, but these are two that quickly come to mind. Also you can apply to University of South Alabama without experience initially but by the time clinicals start (which is about one year after the program begins) they want you to have two years of experience. Annaiya, thank you for your response! MUSC appears to be a solid program. So far, I have read really good things about their BSN-DNP program. Right now, my plan is to apply to MUSC and Frontier Nursing University. Thank you again for your thoughts.

For those of you who have attended MUSC or U of Arizona ,what do you like about your programs? What are your weekly challenges as far as the workload? Are there many group projects? Hello all! I went on an interview about two weeks ago, at a hospital I really would love to work at! The unit is also perfect because it is the same specialty area I had my practicum. For those of you experienced in the interviewing process, what says "good interview"? I was with the nurse manager for about 1 hour and 1/2. She asked me questions (scenario and personality). During this time, I sensed that she really liked me. After we talked, she took me on a tour of the unit, and introduced me to the staff (even the cleaning staff!). After the tour, we went back to her office and I was able to ask her the questions I had prepared. At the end of the interview, she gave me her card and told me to call her or email her if I had any more questions about the position...I thought this was generous! She told me that she would be interviewing through the week and the following week. I was probably one of her first interviewees. I will probably hear something by this week coming. By the way, she is filling two full-time positions. I am a new graduate, so I believe inexperience is my biggest negative. The nurse manager did say that she was not looking for just a "warm body" she is looking for someone who really cares and who would fit within her team. Does this sound like a positive interview? Any comments/thoughts are welcome!
