  1. I would personally wear scrubs to the orientation. Just in case. Plus I would wear scrubs any day, there comfortable.. Did you see how long were suppose to be there for ? Nearly the whole darn day...
  2. I try not to stress, but it's always in the back of my mind. I try to tell myself that I've made it this far, so it has to account for something and that I'm on the right track. So I just need to hang in there. I'm so jealous that you are finish! Congrats! Are you preparing yourself for the NCLEX? If you don't mind me asking so that way I can get an idea how to prepare myself- how long are you planning on taking time to study for the NCLEX? I've been researching ways other people are studying for the NCLEX and some say that you don't really study for the NCLEX like a flashcard test. Some just buy alot of NCLEX books, and study the questions over and over again. What are your plans?
  3. Thanks RADIATIONRN2BE... very informative! You just put my stress bar down a bit!
  4. So we are getting close to starting the program! I'm excited and lazy at the same time. This whole month off of no school was Greaaattt..... I don't want to relearn dosage...ugh. Speaking of this, is the dosage calculations test in the beginning of the program hard? This isn't for ACC but some other nursing program, this girl had to take a dosage test every level, can only pass by a 90 so she can only miss 2, and each level it gets harder. Does ACC do this?
  5. Hey kind of late on answering your question, but yeah you pre register just so that you can pay for it, really. You should be able to type in your address so they can find the closest office for you. Once paid, they will send you an e-mail (the one you need to bring to the site is a SEPERATE e-mail- so look out for 2 of them). Print it out, take the drug test and then your done. If you need a copy for your records of your results, then you need to e-mail them. Go to precheck and there e-mail would be there. I didn't need my results, but then I kept getting e-mails from the nursing recruiter that only 25% of students are doing this right (they repaid for the background), and so I started to get nervous and requested for one, just in case.
  6. Thanks jennieanne. I finally got the DVD but I haven't even watched any of the video. Lol. For the most part I remember a lot from my Cna class I just need to tweek it a little. I got my acceptance letter n I also got my hybrid class thank God! I know there was someone who answered this question but I need a little more info.Does any one know exactly how many days a week do u have to take off work for lab/ Clinicals for hybrid? My work is ONLY days which ends at 330pm. After that it is the call team, also on the weekends only call team works. I read somewhere that someone was able to work 3 days a week while in hybrid but I don't know if that person was able to work at night. IM nervous b/C I don't know if I'll have time to work n I can't survive on Jus taking call. So anyone in hybrid can answer this?
  7. hey yejun0816, I sent you a private message.
  8. You have the 7 edition by Taylor correct?
  9. I have the fundamental of nursing textbook that has a DVD in the book. But she is saying that along with this DVD, there is another set. She list is as "skills" cd, so im guessing thats it. do you have it? Can you send me a pic of the cover ?
  10. SO I need a little help! I am taking the RNSG skills 1 class in about 5 days. I went ahead and bought the Fundamentals of nursing by taylor 7 edition with DVD on Ebay (cheaper) and the skills guide. Well, this whole time I thought I got everything. My professor sent an e-mail to everyone in the class and says that there is also a set of clinical skills DVD's that NOT within the book that was required. I've been trying to find this set online so I could purchase it separately, but i cannot find anywhere. So i went ahead and went to the ACC bookstore and bought the stupid package deal ( 206.00!) I thought maybe if I just can see what it looks like I can find it online and then just return it. WRONG!, the whole package comes in a brown box and you can't see inside unless you open it, which if you open it then you can't RETURN it. So, I was like okay I'll just return the other stuff, well I got it off of Ebay and there's no returns! So, does anyone know what this set of DVD looks like, or how I can get it? Or does anyone want to buy it from me..??
  11. I didn't get on ... I had a feeling I wouldn't but IM going to take rnsg nursing skill 1 in a week so that would go towards my points plus the 5 replying. I was rank 165. Congrats on who got accepted!! Keep us posted on the info of the program. Love to hear from u! Anyone doing clinicals at St. Davids north Austin stop by in endo and say hi!!
  12. That's good to hear! I was nervous to read that stuff on the forums before I got the job, because it's been so long waiting to get into nursing school and then not being able to find a job, would b devastating.
  13. Hey Sungal, I do also agree with what radiationrn2be says about getting a job in healthcare. But i would also like to share what i have researched( true or not, i cant prove it). I have read on forums about people graduating and not being able to find jobs. Since the economy is the way it is, everyon moving to austin( hence the traffic). Today, its more the EMPLOYERS market, so many people that they can choose from looking for jobs, that now experience is a must. I even read Some hospitals arent even looking for an ADN, only BSN. Then again, i hear that people are getting jobs even before they graduate. So who knows? My two cents, is that instead of hoping for option 2 to be right, i would suggest getting a healthcare job. I would suggest getting a job as a CNA in a hospital for your RN degree. You would do most of the leg work, but this is as close to a nurse that u can get without a degree.I got a job at st. Davids, and love what i do. My supervisor hired me with no healthcare experince at all, and i have learned so much since ive been there. You will start to learn how healthcare professions talk, nurses will teach you how to do stuff( they showed me what to look for when starting an IV-Can't actually do it of course, but its really good to watch), you will know what to do in emergency situations ( crash cart, codes to call), You will understand it better. if your around healthcare 40/week your bound to learn something. My supervisor says shes willing to do whatever to get me through school, there benefits and grants, and a lot of stuff really good for you. If you read my earlier post i wrote what i did and what im doing now at st. Davids. I hope that helped and i wish u the best of luck!
  14. Thank you so much. Real informative. Had to read it a couple times to actually understand the busyness of your schedule! It sounds like your schedule flip flops week to week. I just hope my employer will understand. thanks again and if i have more questions I will def. Post it!
  15. Hey radiationrn2be,I was thinking about taking the hybrid nursing program. I want to know how it was doing nursing online since nursing is hard? I want to do hybrid because I need to work. I can't live off of just taking call at my work. I took a class online once, made an a and it seemed easier. Can't remember what class though, so maybe it was the subject. How is your schedule like? What did you have to do to be in hybrid?
  16. I was told from my employer learning institute(st.davids is one of the hospitals affiliated with acc for clinical) that acceptance letters will b sent out the first and second week of October. I got a petition for the RNSG skills on Oct. 1. Kind of late. Did any one get one late? Has anyone gotten an acceptance letter yet?
  17. I hate a&p! More so anatomy tho. My college did the same anatomy then physiology. All that stuff they tell u,"read the book before class, review when u get home and study until the test n not cram" this is your holy grail! Don't procrastinate. They say how students gets a's is by studying the ch. 1, next class topic ch.2, study ch.1 then ch.2, next class topic ch. 3 study for ch.1 2 and 3. N so on. This goes for any subject. ESP. A&p. If u keep this up it'll b stored in your long term memory for that final exam!
  18. I am sure that once you accepted that award letter, than they should pay for your class on time, generally speaking. But you mentioned that your fa is a little slow on things. From where I am, my FA make us sign a paper that states even if it is due to their error or processing time etc, I am still liable to make sure my tuition gets paid on the due date. If you don't have the means to pay for it all at once, start on a payment plan, and if it's just processing time, then maybe they'll pick up where you are and refund what you have paid. But before all that, go to your FA to talk to them and MAKE sure they say that it will go through. Check your balance on your account frequently, because in the end it will be your responsibility and if your class drops, there's really nothing anyone can do for you once that class is filled.
  19. Hello Everyone, Decided I would post a comment and say to everyone GOOD LUCK! I just got a petition today to take the Nursing Skills 1 (kind of late...thought I got an acceptance letter...lol. I think someone rejected this semester because they didn't/couldn't take it, but no worries I will jump to it in a heart beat!) I am also applying for the Spring 2013... which I really hope I get in, because this will be my third time applying. I've been out of school since January, almost a year, just waiting. *Sigh* Looking back, there could have been many things i could have done differently that would have SAVED me so many semesters...but oh well, the turtle will eventually get there. If some of you are tired of waiting, I heard Temple College doesn't have a waiting list and people tend to get accepted right away. The catch is is that they only have applicants once a year, and I believe it's around March. I don't know exactly where you would be doing your clinicals (I think Scott and White) but I would ask since we are Austinites and the drive would be pretty far going to temple as it is. I was going to do this, but decided not too because of the drive and I had really thought I was going to get into the nursing program that semester...another mistake. BUT it's not all bad news for me this year. I landed an awesome job at St. David's Hospital! Been there since January. I don't know if I saw it on this thread or somewhere else, but it WOULD tremendously help you if you get a job in the medical field while in nursing school. You should try to become a PCT/ CNA (same thing), you would have to do most of the leg work, but from what I've seen and heard, you do ALMOST everything that a nurse does...so you would be more advanced and ahead once you start the nursing program. You should get your CNA certification...it doesn't take that long maybe like a month or 2, ACC offers it and other places around Austin does too, super easy. I paid 400 bucks, got my certification so I could get my foot in the door- i currently don't do alot of CNA work at all. Im what they call an Endoscopy Tech. It's kind of different in my department. Think of it like a Surgical Technologist and an RN. Some nurses in my department can't do my job, and I can't do theirs. You would have to be trained to do it and it takes about a year to learn everything, and still then you're still learning. We actually assist the doctors during the procedures, like his right hand man, kind of like a surgical tech. So like I said, get a job somewhere anywhere, it would help you. My supervisor tells me all the time that she is willing to adjust my schedule, do whatever it takes so I can finish school and then become a nurse in her department. If you work for a hospital, they LOVE hiring within, and it's guaranteed to have a job lined up for you the day after you pass your boards. Plus, if you have trouble with your coursework, just go to work and ask! =) Anyways I have written a story on here, but hopefully me sharing my life to you guys and give yall some pointers on how to tackle this. Good luck!
  20. I took the HESI test about a year ago. I didn't think it was that hard at all. Pretty much basic math, reading and vocabulary. I also along with those had to take the Anatomy and Physiology part as well and it wasn't bad. Mind you, I didn't even studied for it ( I didn't really know where to start), so I winged it and I passed with a pretty good grade. I'm not smart at all and it takes me HOURS HOURS HOURS to study for one test, I just want to put that out there so you can picture how it isn't really that bad. But, it I were you just go over your Anatomy and Physiology and if you do pretty good in math and all the other stuff, I wouldn't worry about that part to much.
  21. hi there...I just recently signed up to this website with a lot on my mind. So I'm almost done with all my pre-reqs and I'm starting to feel major anxiety as time comes closer. My main concern is not only if I am able to pass the program, but after that? What if I make an idiotic mistake that puts someone's life at risk? And what if death comes upon them due to the mistake? I can't live with that fact. As much as it is rewarding as I've heard the job is, I also have this nervousness of the overbearing risk. So...the question is...if anyone have the same feelings...how do you overcome it?
