Has Anyone Heard From Massasoit Community College ?
I hear you. I have all my classes done except for the nursing classes too and I have decided on Brockton since I am on the wait list for Massasoit. Dartmouth is just too far away - it will limit a part time job even further. Looks like if we don't get called by Massasoit by August we will be in the same class.

It does suck. I can't say they definitely only take 20 - that is just what they said in my information session. Just I think you just have to believe for whatever reason you are meant to go to the other school. If they contact you over the summer then it happens for a reason. Honestly, I know each of the programs I applied for were all good programs - I stayed away from applying to programs that I heard negative things about. Unfortunately, Massosoit has a good program AND is cost effective. Outside of that there is no real difference. And most of us applying worked hard and measure up the same way so at some point it comes down to essays and the luck of the draw. There are tons of people that apply and don't get in anywhere after working hard to take all the pre-requisites, so I would say we are lucky because we have somewhere to go. What school did you get accepted too?

1st - I knew the GPA comment wasn't directed at me. I just realized it may have sounded wrong when I re-read it. 2nd - at the information session I went to - we all asked a ton of questions. They told us they only put 20 people on the waiting list and many people end up accepted because others that were accepted choose other schools. They also said the waiting list is only good for that year. They do that so they can have people ready in case they need to fill the program. They want people to get their shots, etc. in case they get accepted so they are ready for clinical. The downside is - they can call you anytime up until the last week of classes. If people don't tell them they are declining then they won't know until then. So they had said to be ready if you are wait listed in case. So it is not a terrible thing to be wait listed. But I share your wife's feelings. It stinks for anyone that worked hard to get in and doesn't. And it doesn't matter if you get in other schools you still wonder what you could have done that you didn't. Honestly - I think that when you make it to the point of being accepted or wait listed there is not much difference in the candidates at that point and it probably comes down to how well the admissions and nursing staff related to you through your essay. Tell your wife good luck. I am going to ask to be removed from the waiting list because I will go to another program. So that is one person down and makes the pool smaller for everyone else waiting. Have a good day everyone.

Sorry - not trying to list my qualifications. I think I was just trying to to work out what I didn't do that would have made the difference. Every school is different so what works for one doesn't necessarily work for another. Any way - good luck again to everyone. I am sure everyone will end up where they are supposed to be in the end.

Brockton Hospital School of nursing
Just as an FYI - not having an associates doesn't limit your ability to work. It is starting to get limited by not having a bachelors. But that may change because of the limit to the # of students that can go to school with the shortage of teachers. There are still a # of hospitals hiring associates degree and diploma students, but Boston hospitals and a few others are typically looking for a bachelors. And there are jobs outside of hospitals that hire diploma and associates. So just keep in mind that you want to go on for your bachelors in the long run. Again I have an associates in science already and a bachelors in communications, so I am in somewhat of a different situation, but I did my research so I could make a decision. and for me Brockton was best because I have too many bills to pay to stretch my funds for too long, so I am choosing a different route so I can work for the last stretch. Good luck and let me know what you decide. Also Quincy is accepting applications for their evening program that starts in january- just another option for you. That program I don't know too much about.

Brockton is considered one of the best programs and they are not bumping their students the same way other associate degree programs are for bachelors programs. My sister went to Brockton - if they are hiring when you graduate then they will recruit from their students. And yes you can do the RN to BSN. You just have to have the RN license. I am in a little different situation. I have an associates in science and a bachelors already in other fields. I was accepted to Brockton, Dartmouth, etc. I am choosing Brockton because of their reputation and because nurses from some other schools have told me the nurses they see that came out of Brockton are very prepared and it is worth going there. With Dartmouth it would be much more travel time and I would still have to go all 4 years even with all the pre-requisites completed. If you choose Brockton - I don't think you will be disappointed. Right now we all have to look to go on for bachelor degrees, but you will be able to work while you do the RN to BSN and that is helpful. Good luck and maybe I will see you in August.

Waiting list for now. Kind of surprised with my GPA, TEAS score, and all the extras. It is the only school that wait listed me. Everywhere else accepted me. But I guess I can look at is as they made my decision for me. I know they only take about 20 or so people on the wait list and many get in because some people choose other schools. Unfortunately for me, the other program I really wanted starts sooner than Massasoit, so I can't wait to see if they contact me by the last week of September. Everything happens for a reason. Good luck to everyone that got in to Massasoit and to those of you on the wait list. I am sure most of you that are on the wait list will get in - unless you decide to go somewhere else.

Waiting list is not bad. They only put about 20 people on it and most end up accepted.

Just an FYI A friend of mine just emailed me at work to let me know she just received her acceptance to the day program. So we should start seeing letters. So excited and nervous now. Good luck to everyone.

I am waiting to hear from the day program. It is so frustrating because I sent in my deposit for Brockton which is a greatr school but so expensive and I got into Dartmouth, but Dartmouth takes you as a freshman even if you have a prior degree and all the prereqs done. It says on financial aid you are a sophomore, but when you talk to them they tell you unless someone flunks out then you have to go all four years. So my best option would be Massasoit and then do the RN to BSN option. I can't afford to be full time four years and keep all my bills paid for that long. Plus Dartmouth is a hike and gas is out of control. I am dying to hear from Massasoit. I am hoping that no news is good news. I know they sent a bunch of rejections at the beginning of April, so at least I know I was still being considered at that time.

TEAS V
I just took the TEAS V today. I just needed the reading comprehension portion. I scored in the 96%. However, I did want to comment because I did take the exam twice. I had consistently scored between 90-97% on all the practice exams. When I got to the exam the first time - I passed, but did did not do as well as I had been doing on the practice exams. There were multiple factors - the scratch paper was typed on on one side and I am a note taker - so by the time I got to the follow the directions I had to try to do it in my head. That didn't work too well. I also felt off that day and thought the exam was much more complicated than the practices. The second test was so different from the first. I felt like it was much easier - more like the book. I also felt more myself and had enough scratch paper. I felt really good about it. My point is - it is really the luck of the draw of the questions and how you feel that day. For anyone taking the exam in the future - stop studying the day before. Let your brain take a break and do something to unwind like a massage. Then the day of the exam - warm your brain up with a few questions from each type, but do not go overboard and do not check the answers. Just let your brain get into test taking mode. I didn't do any studying between exams and figured I had nothing to lose because I had a passing score and it couldn't get worse. I went for a massage the night before and had no pressure on myself that day.
