  1. Thanks for the information fergus51 and others. The reason I asked about Nitronox is because I work in a rural hospital that does 50-60 deliveries a month. Our anesthesiologists are really good about placing epidurals for us during the day, but at night it is a different story (they don't want to come in...long story). So we are looking at other options and I heard about Nitronox from a nurse that comes from Canada. It is her opinion that Nitronox is wonderful for laboring women and I wanted to know if anyone in the US uses it, and if not, why not. Thanks!
  2. Is anyone using Nitronox for labor pain relief? If so, please share the advantages and disadvantages. What are the nursing implications? What effect does it have on the newborn? If anyone is willing to share a protocol that would be wonderful. Thanks!

I'm sorry you are so uncomfortable! March 17th probably can't come soon enough! Have you tried the different abd. support belts? I thought they were wonderful! Or massage therapy? Use lots of pillows when you go to sleep, maybe positioning/support could help with your legs falling asleep. Best of luck on the 17th, or sooner?? You may have to wait for your "lucky charm".
  4. I took the in-patient ob certification test in 1993. I remember a lot of questions about EFM and interpretation. I wouldn't want to take the test without working in l&d and feeling really comfortable with strips. It would help to take a good EFM certification/credentialing class. It felt really good to pass though! Good luck with whatever test you decide to take. By the way, I took the test in Spokane, WA and the preceptors were very kind!

I've been a labor and delivery nurse a long time at one hospital. Recently I moved to another hospital where the nurses calculate MVU's for laboring patients. This is new to me and I'm wondering if this is something you do routinely and if it's really a benefit. I feel like it's a waste of time, but some of the doc's expect it.
