Punched in face, kicked by resident
I work in a LTC behavioral floor and everybody is on psyche meds and some are even on Haldol IM. A resident already dared to start grabbing my hands and pushed me. Another time on my first few days of working by myself, I hang my stethoscope around my neck and believe me this resident grab and chock me that I even have to call my nurse aides.. And to think Im just a new nurse. The reason why is because she does nt know me and seen my face for first times. The resident don't even trust me giving the meds. Certainly I understand your situation and how u feel. At the end, do what you think is right. Protect yourself, other residents, the staff and also that difficult resident.

Does anyone else ever get tired of "stupid" nurses?
I am 20 years old LPN working in a long term care facility for 3 weeks already. I tried my best and hard going extreme of not having bathroom breaks and lunch or dinner. I'm a newbie and still learning things. At times, I felt in doubt of my knowledge that's why I always ask questions coz I want to give quality care to my 49 residents. I THINK EVERYBODY STARTS IN THE BOTTOM. PEOPLE LEARN WITH EXPERIENCE. I BET EVERY NURSE OR SUPERVISOR IN HERE BASHING OTHER NURSES HAS MADE MISTAKES IN SOME TIME OF THIER PRACTICE. I remembered 2 days ago one of my residents, J.Q. vomited twice and the CNA came to me telling me she have 102 degree fever. Of course, becuase I'm new I just took the BP, P, n R but not the temp. I also assess whether she was constipated. When I'm about to call the MD, the supervisor came and told her about my resident. She requested I take the temp myself and got 98.2.. lesson is when critical care and assesment is needed then I must take vitals sign myself. I admit I have so much room of learning. I take constructive criticisms positively. If people brand me as stupid I could care less coz I know I come far. And I'm in process of starting an LPN-BSN transition this Spring 2011.

New LPN Can't Find Job
I am a new LPN graduate June 2010. I passed my board on August 23 and within 2 months I got calls for interviews. What I did was persistently go door to door submit my resumes at the front desk or at their nursing office. Literally I had 7 page back to back list of nursing homes with thier adresses in it. I also went to government places, clinics, doctor offices.Yes Craigslist helped me too. There are facilities willing to train new grads and nursing staffing agencies too. Dress professionally . I also had my physical exams, chest xrays, vaccinations, reference letters and a good resume ready. Good luck.
