  1. Hi full timers, I am currently a part-timer but am thinking of switching to FT this summer. Could one of you please tell me your schedule for Semester 2? I want to get an idea of the differences in the program. Thank you!
  2. Hi MiaNur, I got the same Ponce email. Im only confused by the med-surg book requirement. I didnt buy it bc the bookstore told me not to until January. I guess Ill bring this up with her tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up about the Barbara Gonzalez email, I have not recieved it yet. Time to start reading away...
  3. Hi everyone, I didn't recieve emails from professors either. I only bought the stethoscope in advance and I was told at the book store not to buy the med-surg until january. I emailed our Saturday professors weeks ago (about something else) and got no response. I haven't the slightest clue where to begin with this whole thing. I hope this wild disorganization does not follow us through the semester!
  4. Hey Fem, no I would not buy anything. I bought the uniform but returned it when they said we wouldnt start until January. Do yo uknow what the absence policy is? I am trying to miss a Saturday class on the 8th but am afraid to.
  5. FEM, Check you class schedule on the MDC website, mine is posted, except one class is missing. Also, we dont need the uniform or any of its accessories until January when we start clinicals, so dont worry about the rush for the name tag.
  6. Hi everyone, Did anyone find the schedule "Mr. Bill" said he'd be posting on some bulletin? I left orientation very confused about what to expect from our schedule. If we don't have clinicals, does that mean we won't have Saturday classes this fall?
  7. Welcome G. Robert! We officially have 4 people in our program, haha. See you Monday!
  8. Hi Fem, I got a call a few days ago informing me that the orientation was in fact changed to Monday and Tuesday, rather than the Thurs and Fri. So Be glad we got all of our titers and tests and such out of the way early! If you have a school conflict on Tuesday, Im sure you can take the ATI exams another day right? Aren't they online? I was planning on getting Merrels too! Ive seen a lot about them on blogs. I wouldnt buy old edition texts unless the professors tell you you can. I suggest emailing them after you see who you get. Thanks for clearing up the confusion regarding the the MDC mishap. However they decide entrance, just glad I made the cut. Fingers crossed for Mocadell! Juan, thanks for elaborating on the uniforms and such. They are expensive!
  9. FEM, the uniforms sound terrible white pants, yikes! I am a penny pincher too. Please post any tips you come across for doing so. I saw you talking on another blog about some mix up related to the part-time program. Would you mind re-explaining it? I don't fully understand what happened. Here I thought the PT was harder to get into than Generic.
  10. Hi Fem, Orientation is mandatory so I guess we'll all have to be there :) As for the study method you mentioned, I have read the same thing. I am really anxious about these exams because they're supposed to be so different from anything else we've seen in school to date. I dont know anyone who has done the MDC program either, nor do I know anyone going into it, so I just read blog after blog. I have also come across all these IPOD references and drug apps, as well as a bunch of other nursing apps. I plan on meeting with an advisor to cover all of this after orientation. I dont currently have a smart phone but I plan on getting specifically for school. Do you know what stethoscope you're buying yet? I see most people choose between the Cardio III and the Classic (Littmann). Any word on what our uniform looks like?
  11. Thanks for getting back to me Fem. Unfortunately, I already did everything with my PCP and I did my drug test with Econolabs and recieved the results in one envelope. I will call the school to figure out what they want me to do. Of course, I always get a different answer! I find very little consistency there. I called the school and the CPR book (for anyone else reading this thread) can be purchased at the MEdical Center Campus book store for around $25. Thanks for the recomendation for the TDP. I will likely get it as I have 2 small children and an infant at home. Don't want to be bringing any of that into the house! Two weeks until orientation
  12. Hi Fem, it states that the drug test results must be sealed. However the paper our physician must sign asks him to indicate if they're positive or negative (which would mean he'd have to open it). What did you do? Also, the CPR class I signed up for has a notation at the bottom stating we buy and bring the book to class. What book is it and where do I buy it? Thanks!
  13. I already did Hep B before I started college back in 2001 and my OB tested my immunity for it last year, but I would get it if you don't have it. My DR does internal medicine. It's my primary car physician ( meaning call whoever you call when you get sick). The timing of the TB test has nothing to do with your titer. All all they do is draw your blood. TB tests will require 4 appts. 1 to recieve the test, and 1 to examine the results (you have to return 3 days after). And then you must repeat this.
  14. Hi all, I did my drug test at Econolobas for $40. You g give a urine sample at a near-by lab they choose for you. I did my background check through the site MDC recommends and it was $58. I went to a place in the Gables to give my fingerprints. Be sure to bring not only the PDF they email you, but also your reciept of payment. I did my TB tests and titers for Measels and Mumps with my regular doctor. He codes it under a 'well-woman's visit' and then all I have to pay is my co-pay. If any of you had had children, call your OB and see if they tested your immunity dfor any diseases. Mine had for Rubella, Chicken Pox, and HEP B, so I had them send me the labs to attach to my paperwork. This way you dont have to repeat tests. I am taking my CPR class on July 9th at the MEdical Center Campus. You call the nuber they have on the admissions page to get the course code, then register for it liek you would any other class. It is 6 hours and cost $69.
  15. Yea, when I was acceped full time, it indicated the campus in the email title-- however my part time acceptance email did'nt list anything. I have heard the part-time program referred to as an "off-site" program so I wasnt sure if our lectures would be held inside hospitals (in the classrooms there). Either way, we'll find out at orientation.
