GCC/NAU Concurrent Program
BSN-Path, I'm so sorry I never saw this question until now. A bit late now but hope you are adjusting well! The first CEP group is now in block IV!! I can't believe it! Finishing up Psych and moving onto CC next week. It's funny you had asked if I found it harder with the NAU class on top of the nursing program, but I didn't know and still don't know any different. It was my first time doing it all ha ha! Again hope you are doing well!!

GCC/NAU Concurrent Program
Hi everyone....so I have come across this email and wanted to say a few things. First, you have to go through NAU financial aid because you will get awarded more. The gal at the NAU north campus office in Phoenix has the info. and can answer your ques. about it. Also, apply to all of the schools if you all are able to then figure it out once you get accepted. Just because you have your heart set on one school doesn't mean you will get in right away. If there are any ques. about tuition costs....call the front desk secretary of Nursing at ASU be really nice and tell her you attended a session but just wanted to clarify tuition costs. She will either tell you or direct you to someone with numbers for you. You have to be in the Maricopa system and must have attended an info. session to get info. about the Maricopa community college/CEP program. If you went to an info. session for the CEP NAU program they give you a breakdown of costs and a list of approx. fees for books, lab fees, etc. Finally, don't stress if your name hasn't come up for the NUR 330 course. If you have been accepted into the program and waiting for them to sign you up it will happen. If not go to class the first day, and contact the NAU extended campus person and they will get it straightened out. Hope this helps good luck!!

Hi on the path! I got accepted into the NAU/maricopa concurrent program! The commute is far but they changed the at still program to a day program anyway. So, I'll still get my BSN with the Community college price tag. So cross my fingers and good luck to everyone!!!!

GCC/NAU Concurrent Program
Hello. May I ask what do you mean you are on the waiting list? Sorry but I'm confused by that comment. Thanks

GCU Summer Program
My advisor called me today. The Scottsdale campus will still have a night program but like I said AT Still switched to day!
-
GCU Summer Program
Hey inspired, the Mesa campus was just changed to a day schedule. I read that you were interested in a day schedule and you are in the east valley. Since you are on the waitlist for Maricopa did you inquire about the NAU concurrent program? It's $11,000+ and you still get a BSN. I'm looking into the concurrent program as well as GCU. But anyway the AT Still night program was just changed to day so that changes things for me but good news for you!!!

GCU Summer Program
HI I noticed you were concerned about taking COM 270 requirement. I was told the class had to be taken not before the application deadline but before the actual nursing program started. I am taking the class at MCC where it is offered as a day or a night class. I think there were a few colleges that were offering it other than PVCC. So, look to the other colleges before you hand over $2000 to GCU.

GCC/NAU Concurrent Program
Hi! So, do you have the class info. that you need to take this summer? Did you happen to know what the traditional program looks like in general? Maybe not specifically the upcoming schedule? Thanks
-
GCC/NAU Concurrent Program
All I know is you have to already be in the pool of Maricopa College applicants. They sent an email to those students in the system but students had to meet certain criteria and if you fulfilled that criteria then you could attend a session. So, if you are in the pool you should make sure your email is current because that is how I was notified.

GCC/NAU Concurrent Program
Hi flutterby! Congrats I am in the process of applying for the fall start. Do you have any information regarding the fall schedule. I am trying to figure out how I will arrange childcare, drive time, etc. Basically trying to figure out if this new option is doable! Plus, what is the class that is required over the summer called again? What time is it offered and are you signed up already? thanks!

GCC childcare resources/support?
What is this single mom scholarship that some students have mentioned? GCC has offered a traditional concurrent program which would add another online class to the traditional course load...but my main concern is and always has been my 2 year old. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks

Grand Canyon University
I know how you feel. I thought Those extra classes were waived because of the existing degree too! Ask her about these extra classes. Maybe my advisor forgot about my degree but I don't think so. If you get stats please let me know because my C grades concern me. My advisor did say that the cum. Pre-req gpa is looked at but the science classes gpa is looked at as well as the grades of those classes. So a C in math isn't as bad as a poor grade in a science class because the math class is part of the cum. Gpa and they don't see it. But they do see how you did in all of your science classes. Did I make sense? Please let me know if you hear anything

Grand Canyon University
Oh and I thought they would waive the "university foundations" course which basically tells you how to be successful at the school. But we have to take that 8 wk. course in our first semester and in our 4th semester take a Christian World View course. Did you know that?
-
Grand Canyon University
I know! They said they typically don't accept a higher level Psych course in place of psych 101 which doesn't make sense to me. They accept higher level math courses! I can't really afford to retake Psych 101 especially since I have taken 200, 300, and 400 level Psych courses. If I had a better idea of the other applicants stats I could feel better about my chances of getting in. Hmmmmm

Grand Canyon University
It's both at that campus. Clinicals are on the weekend and lecture is during the week. Not sure what the schedule is at the Scottsdale campus.
-
Grand Canyon University
Yes I'm applying for the evenin and weekend program. I'm hoping the school can accept a higher level Psych. course to replace my C and that would bump up my overall GPA. I am Taking the required COM class and will finish HCR 210 this semester too. I'm still nervous about it because I am no longer considering ASU. Oh and still have to take the TEAS.
-
Grand Canyon University
My advisor said it's only the pre-reqs. that are calculated for the scholarship. Although I'm not sure about that COM class? I think that is considered as well. I too am curious about the non-degree students GPA/teas scores. I have a degree already which my advisor said weighs in my favor BUT I have a C in Psych and math which really concerns me since I'm competing against non-degree and degree students. Not quite sure what I should do?
-
Maricopa Nursing /NAU Partnership
Believe it or not but I have all pre-req. And co-reqs. done (I graduated from NAU). But how long will it take to get this program started? Is it 5 semesters accelerated? traditional? Are the clinicals done in outlying areas in Northern AZ like it is for their NAU nursing students? Glendale and NAU? One week in Glendale the next week in Flagstaff? I don't understand I have ques. ques. ques. I do think this is a great option that will be opening up for the many applicants!

Grand Canyon University
Hi T! I guess I'm confused too! The only difference between the two programs pre-req. wise was HCR 220/230 are not required for GCU. GCU does req. A COM class but that is due anytime before you start the program. HCR 210/240 are req. for both other than that all pre-reqs. are the same. So I'm sorry but I don't understand the situation but I also just realized since I have a degree already there may be some differences. hmmm dunno I struggled with the same decision too. Wish I could be your magic eight-ball and help with your decision! :)

Grand Canyon University
Well what is your situation? Are you aware of the policy changes starting in the fall for ASU? Have you taken the TEAS? You said you are going straight for your BSN. Does that mean all of your pre-reqs. are done? Do you have a BA/BS degree already? Are you aware of the tuition costs for each program? Are you aware of the job shortage for new grads and are you prepared to take on a hefty school debt and possibly be unemployed for a period of time? Everybody has a different situation and considerations. I spent hours reading many posts on this site gleaning any bit of info. I could from people. Some people don't like the fact that GCU is a for profit school. The price tag alone is a big deterrent for many students. I had to weigh the pos. and neg. comments. I sat down with advisors at both schools exploring my options. Have you done any of this? I can give you my opinion but it's just my opinion based on my circumstances alone. You have to determine what works for you. Hope any of this helped you. Good luck!

I too saw the special about "for profit schools" and it's unfortunate that many people have had bad experiences. I agree the cost of tuition is rather high and it would be a no brainer to go to a community college and save tons of money. But as with anything I am choosing a school that will fit my situation the best. I am older and don't want to wait 5-6 years (2+ wait, 2 yr. program, 1+ yrs. RN-BSN program) to get my BSN. I want to continue my education and become a NP or ND plus gain work experience and have another child etc. etc. :) Years ago before they were bought out GCU had a well respected nursing program albeit expensive but respected. It's still expensive but it's comparable to ASU and I'll save 2 hours commuting time! Based on the NCLEX scores GCU is up there with ASU and the community colleges so students are learning enough to receive their license. That is what I was looking for was a program that would educate me well enough to pass because my education will truly start once I'm licensed:nurse: I have my concerns and reservations but it's because of this forum that I will be able to watch out for this, that or the other (like fin. aid dept.)!! I think anyone who is going to invest their time, money and energy into a program would do well to look at everything with their eyes wide open, take people's opinion with a grain of salt, be realistic of life during and after nursing school, weigh your options and do what's best for your situation. For me I'm crossing my fingers, hoping for the best and soaking up my free time cause I know I'm going to study my off! Thanks for all the helpful info. everyone

Hi thank you I finally got a hold of someone who has been helpful so far. I am of course nervous putting all of my eggs in the GCU basket but their program seems to be the best fit for my family right now. So, yes I am going to apply in May to start in the fall. I was interested in the ASU program but I would only be interested in the Mayo program and since I am missing some classes my score potential may not be competitive enough. Its so frustrating I have an old Psych class and math class from my freshman year years ago haunting me to this day. So, I am debating if I should retake either of them to make my GPA more competitive or cross my fingers. Jon the advisor said since I have a degree already and my science GPA is 3.8 looks good on the application. I have read the school postings on this site over and over trying to glean info. regarding the program at GCU and of course the neg. comments concern me. Especially since the school is so expensive. What are your thoughts towards the program? Oh I signed up for the req. COM class this spring semester so I don't have to worry about taking a summer class :)

Grand Canyon University
Oh my! So, the first person I spoke to at GCU wanted all of my contact info. Before they directed my phone call and put me on hold when I asked to be directed to nursing advisement. I told them I would give nursing advising my info. Once I was speaking to them and if i felt it was relevant but I was not going to give up personal info. To some random operator on the phone. Then i called back and was directed to nursing dept. But she had no idea of what fast track program i was talking about. I just spent atleast 1/2 hour going in circles trying to convince my so called advisor on the phone at GCU that the 20 month program exists!!!! So then I was transferred to her coworker who finally figured out I was interested in on ground education and I was talking to the online department only! I called the only number from their website too! What a joke. I still don't have info. Because the on ground "advisor" was at lunch. I cannot wait to get all of this figured out and finally start school. I just want to go to school and get my BSN! I thought you might think that was funny and if you had the name of someone who knows what they are talking about would be helpful

ASU Nursing Program Spring 2011 hopefuls
Hi dreamingbig! Thanks for the offer I am still familiarizing myself with this site so if you wanted to discuss price and pickup privately I'm not sure how to do that. Congrats on getting in by the way! Let me know what works best thanks!
