Anyone in St. Joseph's Univ. FNP Program? Need Advice.

I am signed up with Kurht for Nursing Informatics and my official start date is April 30th. I can't wait. Have already ordered book from Amazon.com (used) and just waiting for my Student I.D., etc. Going to read up on the materials to get started with Web Portal and Angel and refresh on APA, and get started early on school work once I get the syllabus. Thanks for all the input Boonce1 and others! It is truly appreciated.

I got accepted! Going to start end of this month. Hoping to connect on Facebook or all nurses to find out how it's going with other students. :):spin:

thank you playboyesq. for all the great information. i am waiting to hear from both usi and st. joe's. i am really torn because if i get into usi i can't start till fall 2011 but at st. joe's i can start end of month and i like the concentrating on one class at a time. if i get into st. joe's and decide to accept i will be going to summer school and knock out 4 classes and be done with core classes by end of august. i'll keep you posted. let me know how it's going with you.

    RN salaries in North Carolina?

I use to live in Tampa Bay area Florida and made as per diem pay $24/hr without any benefits. I moved to Portland, Oregon and make $48/hr pluse $5 extra for nights, all the benefits, and work medical/surgical floors. The best part is only 3-6 pts. per shift unlike Florida which was 7-11 patients...crazy! I have 18 yrs experience, med-surg, tele, ortho, PCU and neonatal ICU (don't do anymore). The west coast by far has the greatest pay, benefits and nurse-pt ratios.

Thanks playboy for getting back to me. Good luck and keep me posted on your classes. Did you find out about Patho or Pharm class at St. Joe's. Are you going to be taking summer classes on campus? If I choose St Joe's I was thinking to knock out a few classes this summer by going to campus in Maine. When you sign up for classes do you sign up for one at a time or sign up for like 2 or 3 and then have the 15 weeks to complete? Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Playboy, have you started the St. Joseph's program yet and what classes are you taking? What do you think of the program? Cynthia

My mistake about tuition at St. Joseph's College of Maine for FNP. It's approx. $21,000 to $22,000 for the program not $28k like I originally thought. This is more reasonable.

Thank you so much Boonce1 for the great info. I can study 4 hours a day if needed. I am going to work 36 hours per week too. If I have to, I could reduce working to 24 hour per week. I finished my BSN in May 2004, so I guess I'll have to get back in the swing of reading, writing, researching, and powerpoints. I believe it will be a continuation of the BSN program because that's all we did, and, to include presentations in the flesh. Guess we won't have to do that. Have you taken any proctored test yet? Are they multiple choice, fill in the blanks or essay questions? How is the Angel portal? Can you streamline into class and ask questions in present time? I am also applying to University of Southern Indiana but classes dont' start until fall. It has a great reputaton, rigourous, and it's only $275 credit hour. You can streamline right in the class as it is being taught or watch the class at a later time. They have a 100% pass rate for licensure. You need 42 credit hours for the USI FNP program. So $11,550 tuition without books for University of Southern Indiana and $28,800 tuition without books for St. Joe's. Both curriculums are similar. The plus of St. Joe's is that they allow you self-pace your courses and I would concentrate on one class at a time before starting the next one like you. Do you sign up for the next class once you finish the class your in? I am applying to both schools and then I will make my decision, I'll let you know. I know it's a lot of questions and you are busy with work and school but just thought I would ask. Thanks and have a great day, Cynthia:nurse:

Thank you Boone1. Do you only take one course at a time? Will you be going to summer classes at the campus?
