The problem is that there us a different type of shortage. Yes, babyboomers will get sick and require healthcare workers such as nurses, the problem is that it's not an economical shortage. The shortage is in the figurative need for nurses rather than the monetary support for nurses. The public does not see this. So yea we need nurses... But until hospitals offer the jobs to support the idea of a nursing shortage we will be left with an excess of nurses. The demand is there by societal standards but not by economical sucks for new grads like me. Lol Hope that made sense, I'm tired but am not sleeping

It's late but I figured I would updat you guys. I loved it! The nurses were awesome! The patients were awesome! It was the best rotation I have had in all off school. I graduated in April and takin nclex tomorrow. The pacu was amazing. I was surrounded by people who were eager to teach and show me things! Makes me want to be a pacu nurse. For future students: yes! Take pacu! It rocked!

Exactly! A good nurse! That's all that matters. When I say I'm a nurse, I say it with pride, I wear that title like rappers wear chains. I've noticed it's more the younger crowd that laughs at male nurses. I laugh when they laugh, because I know, the moment they need a nurse they won't say ****! Haha. Be proud of it and people will respect you. I loved nursing school, great gorgeous girls, nothin better. See what I did there?...reinforced straightness Lol. Looks like I'm no different. On a serious note, glad I discovered this forum. Gotta find a job now.

Thanks! Sorry, its been a while since I first read this post. You got me excited about my preceptorship. It starts in march. So im just trying to figure out what to do and what to manage. Your post has provided me with a lot to look over, . Time to get down to business.

Hey everyone, I will be having my preceptorship for my senior year of nursing in the PACU. I want to prepare myself the best I can. I want to show everyone that I am wanting to learn as much as I can, and would like to review/preview what ever I need to make myself more competent. what are some things that you have noticed Students need to review?

I spoke to my professor and my position for preceptorship will be in the PACU at an oregon legacy hosptial. By the way I don't want to say my actual location because I dont know if its a hippa violation? everyone thank you for posting your experience. Im really excited to learn a lot. Kelli, thank you for posting in great detail. Ill do exactly that in my downtime ill look up the policies and get familiar with procedures. I did not know that many people dont get into the PACU, in fact I dont know much about the PACU beside that its where we take care of people post surgery/anesthesia.

Hey everyone, I Just registered for this site, so this is my first post! Happy to be a part of the community. Anyways, I am a student in my senior year. I just recieved confirmation from my professor that I will be doing my preceptorship in the PACU. If im not happy with it, I can switch into Oncology. I live in Oregon. My preceptorship for PACU would be in Washington, and for Oncology (if i choose it) will be in oregon. I dont really know a lot about PACU or Oncology, I am looking for your experience about the fields. Does one unit give me a better chance at applying for jobs? Does my preceptorship make a difference on my applications? Just looking for answers. thanks.
