  1. I'm trying to decide how I can indicate on my resume that I've taken and passed NCLEX but not yet received my license from the state. Do you all think it would be appropriate to write it this way? License & Certifications: Registered Nurse - XX State Board of Nursing NCLEX-RN passed January 3, 2014 - License pending BLS for Healthcare Providers...... etc. Any other suggestions? Help! Thank you!!!
  2. We have our first test next week, so I'll have a better answer then, but I can say that your instructor plays a HUGE part in your experience and what you take away from this class. Last semester I enrolled in A&P based upon the schedule for the class vs. who the instructor was. Big, big, big mistake. I ended up with an adjunct instructor who had no interest in teaching, did not know the material, did not pronounce terms correctly, and had not returned any of our graded material (lecture and lab exams) as of week 8. He could not have been a less helpful, more terrible teacher. I felt I was not learning the material and I had no idea what my grade was. At week 9 I made the difficult decision to drop and focused on my other classes, and started digging around to find out who the best/better instructors at my school are. FYI, I did find out I had a B later - I wondered if I had made a mistake, but hindsight is 20/20, right? I'm happy to say I registered early for this fall and made sure I got the instructor that I wanted. I just finished week 2 and I am blown away already. It's like a totally different course. I'm really learning the material, not just teaching myself from the book and regurgitating on tests. My instructor is clearly excited about the class and makes it fun and interesting. He actually leads us through lab, unlike my last experience. My advice is, do your research and find a good instructor, this is one of the most important classes we take as pre-Nursing students! Good luck! :)
  3. I will be attending the Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes in St. Louis (they have the 10 yr policy). I also spoke to someone at Chamberlain College of Nursing at the St. Louis campus and they told me they forgive after 5 yrs. FYI, Chamberlain has a few other locations in other states. At both there were some restrictions on your science credits, but overall it wasn't difficult to take advantage of the policy at all. They were super nice about it and never commented on my low GPA from my first go-round at all. These are both private schools, BTW. I would definitely encourage you to check into it - good luck!
  4. I was in a similar situation - not the best grades from my first attempt at college many years ago - with a low cumulative GPA. I've been taking pre-reqs for a BSN program at a community college and have awesome grades now; however, the BSN programs look at your cumulative GPA and I thought I was totally out of luck even with straight A's for the past 3 semesters in my pre-reqs. GOOD NEWS! Many programs have a GPA forgiveness policy for situations like these. I've just been accepted to a BSN program for Summer 2012 and was able to transfer in credits from the first school I attended but disregard the GPA from there for my application. In my case, the grades needed to be 10+ years in the past and my more recent GPA had to be 3.0 or higher. I also spoke to a counselor with another BSN program and they have a 5+ years forgiveness policy. And to think - I almost didn't apply because I thought I was doomed...now I'm on track to have my BSN in December 2013! So, don't give up! Sometimes it takes some of us a little longer to figure things out and get it right - that doesn't mean we are bad students who wouldn't be great nurses! :redpinkhe
  5. Hi all, I just submitted my application to a BSN program yesterday and am wondering how long it generally takes to hear the decision? I know someone who applied to the same program (Goldfarb School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish) and received her acceptance letter in ~ 3 weeks, but she applied for the accelerated BSN program. I'm not sure if it will be the same for the undergrad program. There is no entrance exam etc. for this program, it's just apply and be accepted (or not) then generally get wait listed for the start time you applied for. How long did it take any of you to hear, if you have been through this already? Thanks!!
  6. I am pre-nursing at SWIC in Belleville, IL and am looking for guidance to choose the best instructor for BIOL157/A&P I for the upcoming Spring 2011 semester. I have heard Dr. ***** is very tough - is she also good? I can do tough as long as she is a good teacher and takes an interest in the class and our success. My other choices are *****, ***** or *****. I have heard nothing about any of them. Your feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks so much!
