  1. Is the program coordinator the person that could admit me? Because if I am transferring I know it would not be the same proccess as applying and starting all over again.
  2. I want to transfer into the mohawk rpn program ...do you know if it is possible. I'm already a first year rpn student..just need two more semesters.
  3. Hey everyone, Im currently a first year nursing student, as I am already enrolled in College for an RPN program I just dont feel it's the right one for me(location wise). It's far from my home and it would be more ideal financially to go to school back in my hometown. Im just wondering if anyone on here has transferred into a semester of Mohawk Colleges practical nursing program. I asked coordinators and receiving all different types of answers. I know it's early to be thinking about transferring but, I'd rather be able to meet the requirements on time etc. Has anyone experienced the proccess of transferring into a semester ? at any college? I was told to apply to Ontario Colleges, but unfortunatly there is no option to apply for the third semester... I need help....
  4. @Laurafromontario Hey, i'm going to be starting the Seneca Rpn Program in 2011. Why did you think you UOIT RPN to RN program was not good at all? Just wondering because I know a few people who have graduated from the program who found it to be helpful in landind jobs in as little as 3 months graduating. Also for anybody who is just checking this post the McMaster rpn to rn program did their last intake in sept 2010 of this year, look on the program website. I think the only pathways now is the E stream. I know I still have a while to decide but can anybody give me straigh insite on which school has a great program or something. Thanks in advance ! :)
  5. im going to be applying soon , just wondering if you have to be completely done your RPN before you can even apply to the program ?
  6. I don't think it was right to say that you live among slackers. Some of my friends attend schools in UBC, McGill, Alberta all in school for their BScN ...you will not even get looked at without having at least an 80% its super super competitive for ANY science program. Especially since you're a mature student as you mentioned, I have to agree with above that now a days a even a 60% wont get you anywhere. This is because of people who think that just because they barely passed they can do all the more advanced things and thats not true, not even close to it. Look at it from an admission advisors point of view, they want the best of the best. A 50% is like saying you only understood half the course, know what I mean? I know if you put your mind to it, you can do much much better than that. If this is your passion, you can do it. Show the admissions department youre dedicated to learning. :)
  7. Oh, okay then that makes more sense :) lol I know what you mean though. It's very competitive thus the 80% admission requirement. They want the best of the best. I hope it is helpful to you though this reality check because it is sometimes the same for other people wondering about admission requirements. I wish you luck in your comming years with your pre-reqs though, youll do great !
  8. @MissMcCoy.....where are you in school or planning to go to school if you dont mind me asking? Because I know any University in Ontario or even joint BScN programs in College you need at LEAST an 80% to get into any program. You're right about that though, it is very very competitive to get into which is why the entrence averages are so high. Sometimes it may say minimum 60% but in reality the people applying actually are averaging 80% and above. Rather it be for RN or BScN.
  9. btw it says right on the website what to expect and how you can prepare for it.. [color=#a30500]what you can do to prepare for your sec assessment: become familiar with the assessment strategies information on this website so that you know what to expect in a similar sec assessment. work through the sample clinical judgment scenarios and triple jump scenario links on this website for study purposes (remembering that the actual modified triple jump assessment will not involve references or leaving the room). refer to carna www.nurses.ab.ca (under resources) to review the “carna entry to practice competencies” and “carna nursing practice standards” to help yourself understand the scope of rn practice in canada and to help with your analysis of your own nursing practice. refer to canadian nurses association (cna) to review the “cna code of ethics document”. review current nursing textbook(s) (published within past 5 years), that cover the knowledge, practices, and procedures of medical/surgical nursing practice. if you are referred for a focused (specialty) assessment, you would also benefit from reviewing a current textbook in maternal-newborn health, child health, and/or mental health nursing. access a canadian registered nurses exam (crne) preparatory book to review expected knowledge. an “optional” osce preparation resource is the nursing picture dictionary tutorial at www.englishforhealth.com to familiarize yourself with canadian health care equipment and supplies that you could be exposed to in your osce assessments.
  10. @Chynny, there are posts about this. I'm very uneducated about the SEC but I went ahead and found you a link outlining what it is and what you need to know. http://www.mtroyal.ca/ProgramsCourses/FacultiesSchoolsCentres/HealthCommunityStudies/Programs/IENAssessmentCentre/SECAssessment/
  11. 50% will not be good enough, to show that youre motivated I would suggest doing it again. Nursing and the sciences are focused on heavily in any school. Youre going to be taking Anatomy, Physiology and all of that. 50 is barely passing, I would assume nobody would be succesful in these courses unless there is more background knowledge. Its not so much a matter of passing, its understanding. Good luck with everything, hard work and persistence pays off :)
  12. @Canadian Girl, wow you really gave me some helpful tips. I'm really looking forward to it, and im glad im not the only one feeling this way :) Thank you so much for all of this, I really appreciate it !
  13. Thanks everyone for all the great advice !
  14. @LREED, my acceptance package after acception on ontariocolleges was about a week and a half. Probably because of where I live:thankya:. But no it didnt say anything about that, more so closer to the starting date. You'll get a panflet for residence, a booklet, an invoice with 2011-2011 nursing fees and a little bookmark thing. And just more information aboout fees and financial assistance. @Anastasia, dont worry everything will work out. I have faith in you ! Did they tell you what position on the waitlist that you were?
  15. I'm going to be in the rpn program at Seneca, i made this post because ive worked so hard to get there and i would never wanna do anything to mess it up, thank you for this advice :) Im just hoping that everything i worked hard for will be at its greatest potential.
