guy with a dream

Hello ! so this is weird and random, but i remember posting on here and wanted to give myself some closure :) I've finished the nursing program at a school i now hate, and actively advise people not to go to, and i'm now working as an RN on a telemetry/stepdown unit at a hospital in the RGV. I'm getting married this summer and am working my schedule out with another nurse who ALSO lives in Mexico and just comes to work, so that we work our days back to back and then have 4-6 days off at home. Livin' the Dream! By the Grace of God. :)

Nice! THanks guys! this all works. I do plan on working as much as possible, even at several different places to fill up my time for almost a year or so after graduating Lord willing, but after the year I plan on getting the 2 shifts in a row thing a week going on. It is quite vital to what I want, specifically, being married and living in mexico and coming up to the valley to work and heading home again! Thanks again guys! I now know it is possible! I just have to graduate now! thanks!

Nice! By every third weekend, you mean every third week you DONT work during the week and just work the weekend? Or you work the weekend including your normal shift? Anyways, Thanks!

Whoa ! !! I give bukeou kudos to you! And from a nurse scheduler him/her self! (dont know what the real title is for that, but it works!) Thanks so much! I am just starting so the whole jungle and vines of nursing is new to me and I am not sure how it all works, I just know what would work perfect for me! It is in Texas, and I will check, but dont forsee any problems, but still thanks again! I will check into the laws and cling to the hope God has brought through you! Thanks!

Thanks for the good word! I do have a huge will for this, specifically the 2 consecutive shifts a week thing, and a faith in the Almight God! Thanks and good luck yourself with your pursuits! (still, anyone reading this dont think I dont want to hear more! specifically, has anyone reading this themselves worked a 2 consecutive shift schedule at one point in their careers?)

Thanks evolvingrn! Ok. I had thought that to get this schedule I would work rotating shifts and stuff, and that is fine. I am just wanting to live in monterrey mexico, (about 2 hours from mcallen regional), and drive up every week for the two shifts and then go back. If I had to work 3 or 4 days, or monday and thursday, it would be a huge spoke in the wheel you know? So anyways, thanks for the input! I just wanted to know it was possible! (still, anyone reading this dont think it is solved! I love input ! ! !)

Thanks! Ok, I feel hopeful! My sister is in the Dallas-Fortworth area, and says she has never heard of such a schedule unless you were chummy with the bosses (she has one more semester to go in the nursing school). So I was just wondering if it was something that was common or if it was forbidden etc by procedure or something. hey! I cant be of help with that yet, as I am just going into nursing. But I am already worrying about a situation like yours! so I was wondering, (I will spare the details, but they are there!), Can an RN get a part time job working like 2 twelve hour shifts a week instead of three shifts? and most importantly, have both shifts consecutive like monday and tuesday, or thurs and friday? I dont care if it is night shift, or if they rotate me from day-night, I just really want to have that prospect of working 2 shifts consecutively even if it was 15 hour shifts! Any advice or encouragement? . . .or just a needle of reality to pop my bubble?

Hey guys, let me be Short and sweet. I am starting nursing school soon. Is it possible for me to (after I graduate and work like a year), get a part time job such as 2 twelve hour shifts a week instead of 3 shifts? I know it may sound crazy! But I have figured that with approximately 20,000 to 25,000 dollars a year after taxes, I can live such a life in Mexico as me and my girlfriend have grown up with and feel at home in. (even though it is less than American standards, it dont matter). So I just really want to know if I can do that working 2 days a week. I would work 15 hour shifts if they let me. IN a Nutshell, does anyone know by experience and solid FACT that this dream of mine CAN BE DONE? Any ideas or truth shed on the matter is great!

Hello Everyone, I will try to be straight and to the point. I am starting nursing school (specifically to be Registered Nurse), and I am wondering what the salary to be expected can be when I graduate as well as hours etc. Specifically what I dream of is working 2 days a week (12+ hours), consecutively (E.G, mon-tues, or wed-thurs, etc). And making atleast 25,000 dollars a year doing that (any more would be great of course!) I want this because I plan on getting married and living in Monterrey Mexico which is about 2 to 3 hours from mcallen and just driving up here to mcallen to work the two days and head back. For example, if I got the mon-tues shift, I would leave monterrey monday early morning, get here and work, and head back home tuesday evening when shift is up. It could be night shift as well (not preferred), that doesn't matter. So long as it is two days consecutively. I know I am just starting the nursing program next semester, but I am wondering if that is a feasible plan to do once I graduate? I dont want to hope for something to get it slammed against me later. . . thanks for any help or tips, especially from RN's currently living and working in mcallen!
