Cypress College Fall 2011
So good to hear from you Guava! I'm glad you are doing well in your first semester - this is a good sign that it is doable :) As an alternate I actually went ahead and did everything before the mandatory meeting when they told the alternates NOT to do everything haha. I called Darlene and she said that the only thing I have to redo is the background check. So N2Biology - you do not have to retake your TEAS. I believe that this grade is good for a few years at least. As for books - If you go to the family night (whenever that is) the students are really helpful when it comes to insider info on things like books and uniforms. Pull a student aside and drill them. I pulled a nice 3rd semester aside and she gave me TONS of info they don't get into in the meetings. A lot of students opt to get all of the books including the "optional" books because they thing they are helpful but I think that you can definitely get by on just the required ones. If money is an issue with the optional books maybe you can team up with another student and go half and half on the optional books and then share them. I'm looking forward to meeting you all :) Nicole

Cypress College Fall 2011
Hey everyone, I just wanted to start this thread in case some students who are beginning the nursing program at Cypress College (CA) this fall wanted to get to know one another. I applied Fall 2010 and was an alternate this Spring 2011. I've already done my background check, TEAS test and the medical check-up so if anyone has questions regarding these I'd be happy to help :) Hope to hear from some of you!

Wow looks like all of you alternates got in except me... damn. Guess I was further down the waiting list than I thought. Congrats to you guys :) Hopefully something will open up for me.

Hey guys, in case a few of you were still wondering where the family night will be held, I was clicking hrough the cypresscna.net webpage and it listed family night under January 13th: Family Night (Time: 1700-1900; Place: Bldg TE3, Rm 222) Hope this helps!

N2: Yes, January 13th is what I have written down from the meeting. To everyone who wished me luck on the weight loss, thank you :)
-
Cypress College
Were they expensive? Where did you go? I'm planning on losing 60 pounds next year so I will be having to buy new sets as I lose weight. Maybe it will be good if I end up going in the fall instead.

The scores are up already! I totally passed :) Good luck to you all!

I took my test on Saturday :) I'm anxious for my results as well but I'm sure we all did better than 67%! The science part was ridiculous. I haven't learned about rocks and tectonic plates since 5th grade.
-
Cypress College
Haha well good luck to both of us :) Hopefully we'll be in the same class!!! Keep us posted, I know I will be!

I didn't find the test too difficult and I'm sure I did better than a 67% I'm just not sure where I'll fall exactly. It feels good to be done but I'd really just like to have a spot open up for me so I know for sure I'm in. I wanted to smack myself in the face when all the alternates raised their hands. There were way more than 50 in my opinion. And when she told the alternates that they shouldn't do the physical or background check until they're accepted for sure I was kinda chuckling to myself as I have already done ALL of it. It's what I get for trying to get ahead I suppose

Schoolie- it has been my understanding (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) that anytime you skip a semester you need to reapply. You will retain your old student id number and credits earned but they will want you to apply again. It could be different for the nursing program though so I'd speak with a counselor to be safe. Meggie- haha yeah the TDaP was awful. If you haven't gone through the Hep B series yet Just wait. It Burns like crazy when they inject it. I had chicken pox as a kid so I just had a titer so I got lucky on that one
-
Cypress College
Haha its not bad once you have been there a semester. For me the T-DaP vaccine was the worst. It was super sore for about 3 days afterward I haven't received the paperwork back regarding the titers though so I may need one or two more soon. RAWR I wish they would just give me an acceptance already! I'd love to be in this semesters batch. Everyone on here is so nice!

I completed my physical last week at my doctors office... wasn't too bad. As for the urinalysis I think they're just making sure you don't have any issues physically as well as testing for drug use. As long as you aren't taking supplements with opiates in them or something equally questionable you should be fine. I'm going to start going through the book today to see how things go. It's been a while since I've taken any English or math classes and I am probably pretty rusty. Guava, I think I was on campus for my Intro to Nursing class the same day you were there. I could have saved you a lot of wandering And if you've only missed that many on the practice test I really think you have nothing to worry about. They're just looking for a passing grade and that sounds like more than passing to me :) LESS THAN A WEEK TO GO GUYS! Looking forward to meeting you all - even if we don't end up in the same graduating class. (Oh god, just let me get in!)

I had an unpleasant experience with -------- before I applied to the program. She wasn't rude or anything, I just felt that I was yet another number to walk through her office and that she just wanted to rush through to get to the next person. I'm glad to know the exact version number because now I don't have to study the version 5 book I got on accident.

I got my acceptance letter for Cypress College Fall 2010
They don't actually email your results. Just log in and you'll be able to view it if it's ready. Right above the link saying you have it ordered there will be a link to view it :)

I ordered my background check the day I got the letter and was able to view the results roughly a week later. There is an option to print an official certificate which is what I'm assuming they want you to do. From what I read I believe the background check is good for 90 days... so I may have to order a new one come the time it expires (Sometimes it doesn't pay off to jump the gun haha)

Wow, Jessica, seems we have a lot in common :) I live in YL and really want to work at St. Jude as a Peds NP as well... My other interest is in forensic nursing. I'm planning on going to Vanguard University's RN to BSN program as soon as I graduate. Still crossing my fingers that as an alternate I get a spot this semester!

I heard they use the latest version as well so I ordered V5... then I read that people actually talked to the counselors who told them they use v 3/4... So I bought that too. I know I'm freaking crazy to do so but I'll just be extra prepared for what I've read is actually nothing to worry about haha.

Guava, Isosceles triangles are fun, but I understand haha. I wouldn't mind meeting halfway :) Spacey, I'm not only crossing my fingers, I'm crossing my toes too! We can talk carpooling as soon as we are both on the cool kids roster!

Cypress College
Guava, I live in Yorba Linda. I'm not sure if you're on the way to Cypress or not but if it's reasonably close-ish and I get accepted, I'd be happy to carpool with you :)

My Intro to Nursing instructor told me that most alternates end up getting in. Cross your fingers (I know I am!)

Derp. Sorry Schoolie I read your question wrong. Famly Night, from what I'm told, is where you bring your families and they talk to everyone about how time consuming this program is and how little they will see of us for two years :) I assume they include some more info about the program so that the families can better understand what we are going to be dealing with.

On our letters it said that Family Night's date was to be determined. I assume we will find out at the mandatory meeting on December 16th if not sooner. I'm not sure if Family Night is mandatory or not. I had ordered TEAS v5 because I had heard from people that Cypress uses the latest version of the TEAS test... kind of upset at myself for jumping the gun before finding out for sure. I now have both versions of study material coming my way so I guess I'll just study both haha.

I'm currently taking Intro to Nursing with Shirley Ashburn who is one of the Nursing instructors. She said that MOST of the alternates (if not all) end up getting in. I think there are just as many alternates as definite acceptances so between 40 and 50. So have hope, especially because with 29 points you are definitely higher up on the alternates list than I am, and most others I am sure. I totally agree with you that it feels worse. We are the ones in limbo... having to do all of the testing and immunizations and whatnot without the definitive answer that we will be in. I did read on one of these threads that they start filling spots after the TEAS scores come in. So some of us should know *hopefully* before Christmas.

guava, I'm so happy for you :) How many points did you have? Hopefully we'll be classmates!
