How should you prep an infected/dirty operative site?
So I'm a newbie in the operating room (1 yr in training) and I've come across times where I have to prep a dirty/infected surgical site. I know we have to prep from clean to dirty and from the incision site and outwards and never come back. I'd appreciate some clarifications on this as I have mixed feelings about it.. I just have this thought that if I do that with an infected site, I'm spreading it more towards the lesser dirty/infected areas. Just like recently where I had to prep a toe due for amputation (pt has MRSA, surgical site infected with osteomyelitis w/ 5mm diameterx3-4mm depth ulceration),my orientator told me to prep from the surgical site and away, so I prepped from the infected toe, around the foot (which I feel iffy bcoz foot is also dirty) and the rest of the leg upward. It's really discombobulating about how should I prep these types of things. Also, another case I had was prepping a site for vascular case where incision site is on the groin. As usual you start from the incision site and away from it, so I did that according to my orientator (As she showed me how,I started from the groin, circular motions, as I don't feel right prepping the surroundings of the groin since it's the perineum w/c is usually last). I feel bummed due to lack of material/feasible resources and the place I work with hasn't even made me take PeriOp101 Yet! (so i'm planning to take it out-of-pocket if they don't provide it to me). Can anyone enlighten me on this? I appreciate any help!

Need resume help! w/ nursing facility (subacute rehab) experience to hospital setting
Hello Nurses! I have gone desperate to be posting this needing your intellectual-judgment based help. I am a nurse working in a subacute care facility for 8 mos. since january and has decided to start transitioning to my goal to work in a hospital setting (as this was my first nursing job after graduating last 2010). I have been looking to transfer to a hospital since july. Until now, still no luck I have gone to several versions of my resume and this is currently what I've been sending out. I would like to know how can I improve it better. My resume is currently on 'clinical experience' category. I have been thinking if I should revert back to the old-style "Work experience" list and list all my work experience. The reason why i currently have this resume, if i do list all my work experience it would make two pages, and since I don't have that much of a legit nursing experience, doesn't make sense making two pages. Would you like to give feedback on my resume?I would gladly appreciate it. My goal is to manage to get in the hospital setting by the end of the year. I really want to work in a hospital as I need acute care experience for my goals. ltc desk/treatment nurse newbie
so I've been working on this job for almost 3 months till now. And the main thing is that I need to learn better time management. thing is, i am a newbie desk&treatment nurse, at the same time charge nurse. this is my very first nursing job and i am so like crawling. I feel sad & frustrated at times whenever i felt incapable because I haven't experienced this situations and that so I try my very best to stay put & remember most of it if not all. I always knew Im fit to do paperwork& treatment, as I was ok with it. Then later on I figured out, when I work by myself, it seems I need more time figuring things out, calling MD's, transcribing orders, families, hospitals, labs etc.sometimes there's just alot that verbal report alone at the end of the shift everytime, you would like to have everything written out. There is pressure as I am managing a 50+bed unit then you have interruptions while you're doing your job. There are times I go blank during work because it was overwhelming. Yet I continue despite of that. Why so? I care for my patients thats why. I just feel like I needed more advice in this field of nursing like how you will manage yourself with time, & doing your job properly.

NJ BON - am i having troubles or just delays?
So I applied for a nj license through endorsement online using my nyc license last Oct. 21, i called them in days after i sent additional required information and had said they sent me a letter about fingerprinting information, then ...(hurricane came a week after i applied) so i expected delays,..a month after...STILL NO LETTER, i called like 3x & had even faxed a letter about my fingerpringing, i had one BON employee type in a letter to authorities about my concerns, STILL NO LETTER!! I got so frustrated that I didn't bother about it for a while, now it's already DECEMBER, only 1 status had changed (C&A out of state), so far, NO LETTER of fingerprinting....i'm about to call them later to check about the status of my application, flies are already feasting on it because it's been 2mos & half already

NJ BON - am i having troubles or just delays?
so this has been bugging me for a while and have called NJ BON on the phone like thrice already about my status and they are supposed to give me a fingerprint card through mail in w/c I haven't gotten hold of yet until now. I applied around Oct. 21, sent my receipts from Nursys verification, and RN application fee, birth certificate & photo, abit of status changes but they told me they sent me a fingerprint already, in w/c a week after that there was this hurricane sandy, so i expected delays but this is going overhand in my opinion when I requested for them to resend the fingerprint card mail. the last time i called, the lady over the phone she sent a letter to an authority for resending the mail to me, until now I still haven't gotten hold of it yet. how long does the endorsement usually take? it felt like my application has been ignored

to go to nursing agency or to not?
@coopher12 nurse stafing agency/recruitment well, I do agree w/ the at least 2 years thing, but I found an agency that offered me a job as a new grad, but it's not a hospital, it's a nursing home facility. I am just as frustrated as many new grads out there (well im an 'old' new grad, graduated 2010), for institutions/hospitals to hire from an agency is expensive, but I'm not giving up on looking if only I had more time to do this. another backside is that I am out of the state where I am licensed! I missed job fairs and such, I can only go back when there would be a scheduled interview/landed a job, and hopefully sooner

to go to nursing agency or to not?
I have been hesitating whether to go to a nursing agency or not. many suggested for me not to, and these nursing agencies just look like they've got some placement in for me as a new grad. (Im actually in this agency and they offered me a job, pay is desirable but location is not! and I've been weary about if agencies will really take care of you or if they're slashing your actual salary) as much as possible I would want the institution itself to hire me so it's more..binding/permanent. I don't really plan on working under an agency for the rest of my life. what do you think of going to an agency? any opinions?

I need Help with resume and cover letter.
i'd give you feedback but I also would like to have feedback on my resume too if u don't mind? i've learned that when making resume's: > never be redundant > instead of stating your responsibilities, state what you've accomplished > every nurse knows what patient care is & every nurse has been through clinicals, state what stood out when you've done your patient care, so you gotta reword your statement(s): "Executed patient care by accurate assessment, implementation and evaluation of individual outcomes " my 3cents :)
