  1. Thanks so much for the reply. I have been finding some great videos...gotta love youtube!
  2. Hello, I recently starting PRN for a home health agency. I have been a nurse for 1.5 years, and all of that time has been NICU. The HH agency I am working for is very small and is just really getting started-I think we have about 5 or 6 RN's now. Anyway, a few days ago I was asked if I was willing to take a one-time patient just to give her 1 dose of meds. I said yes. Now I have found out that I am giving an IV push med, which means I either have to start an IV, or access a central port. Here's the thing, I don't even know if she has a port, because I have no access to her medical information. I've requested it but have not heard back from SPNN. The issue is that 1) I haven't started an IV on anyone over 8 lbs in 2 years and 2) I have NEVER even accessed a port. I don't even know how to push a med through a port. I know they will supply everything I need, but I don't actually know how to use it. I already went through the online webinar to learn how to administer the medication, and I have done all the paperwork and taken the exam, but the IV/port part is what I'm unsure about. What do you guys think I should do? Thanks!
  3. Here in NM, there is a program for those with an undergraduate degree in another field to apply straight into the Master's program. I have my undergrad in Psychology & am planning on applying into the Master's program (hopefully before they get rid of that option! ) Good luck!
  4. Well, I'm already on top of the 'loving coffee' part, so I'm on my way :)
  5. Good question...which campus will you be at?
  6. Thank you SOOO much! :)
  7. Thank you! Good luck to ya! :)
  8. Roxanne and Redhead: Congrats!!! And I know we will be around to help eachother out as we do this together! WOOP!
  9. Hi everyone, I just got my acceptance letter today (WOOT!) and will be starting my Nursing coursework in January...I'm so excited that I just keep thinking of all these questions that I have about what's to come. Do you have any advice about the program? Things you wish someone would have told you to prepare for? -Where do most people do their clinicals? On the schedule for my NAHA class (and every semester here on out), it just says "Hospital"...is it UNMH? That would be kinda cool because I volunteer there already and am familiar with it. -What do you need to purchase before you start (scrubs? stethoscope?)? -What are the clinical days like? On the class schedule it just says 7:00am-11:00pm...and surely you're not *actually* at the hospital for 16 hrs at a time ...right? -What am I getting myself in to...is it really crazy?! LOL...thanks! :)
  10. Thank you! I have been on this site throughout all my schooling up until this point looking for advice, etc...I don't know what I would have done without it :bowingpur At my college, we have to take a CNA course and become certified before we being our Nursing coursework. So that's what I will be doing this coming semester. Yikes. :icon_roll
  11. Congrats on getting offers to both! What a luxury in these times to have to choose. I don't have any advice except that I have heard a few times about Pres' good reputation...but, then again, Lovelace is willing to start you out at a higher rate. Good luck!
  12. I just got my acceptance letter today...I am officially a Nursing student! I am so excited--just wanted to share!
  13. Is it "Pediatric Heart Surgery - A ready reference for professionals" by L. Eliot May, PA-C?
  14. I just finished "Tending Lives" by Echo Heron. I think it has priceless viewpoint on the day in the life of a nurse. It was great! I also highly recommend "The Baby Catcher" by Peggy Vincent if you're interested at all in midwifery. :)
  15. I just finished up "Baby Catcher". Awesome book if you want a look into the real lives of home birth midwives! I know some Midwifery schools have it as a required reading before students begin coursework. Good luck!:)
