  1. The average age of a CRNA in current practice is 49 y.o. CRNA's under age 30 are 10% of CRNA's are > 65 y.o. 3 of my classmates are in their 40's. No, you're not too old. Besides 50 is the new 30. So I guess 30 is the new...well you figure it out. Anyway Good Luck!
  2. Hey Lionheart, with a screen name like that you need to improve that negative attitude. The answer to your question is NONE !!!!! There are no reasons not to be a CRNA, there is no "other side of the fence" as you call it. It is an amazing opportunity, with complete job satisfaction, you will love it, and not to mention a handsome compensation. The only reason not to be a CRNA is if you lack passion. So if you want to really be a CRNA than you will be. Now forget about what went wrong in nursing school and focus on what you are going to do to make it right. Always Remember "...if you will it, it is no dream." -Theodore Hertzel Good Luck young hopeful, I want to see your name on here with CRNA behind it in 4-5 years.
  3. Hey GRNA check out these two websites they should help http://www.ccanesthesiareview.com http://www.prodigyanesthesia.com Good Luck
  4. High lipid solubiliy = Potent Agent = Lower MAC, which mean less dose or concentation of agent needed for desired effect. Blood:OIL partition coefficient converse relationship to potentcy MAC value inverse relationship to potentcy Meyer-Overton Rule is not exact, becuase halogenation, how flurinated the agents are is also a factor. Low Blood:Gas = faster rate of rise FA/Fi or faster onset. Not related to potentcy
  5. I would leave the tube in. The same thing happened to me, except much longer case, and a lot more Vec. and we left them intubated. Never feel bad about leaving them intubated, it does not equal failure. Haste = waste. How much Sux. did they get? Phase 2 block?
  6. Thanks Gump, I appreciate the words of wisdom. I also find it suspect and your guess is as good as mine. However, its all water under the bridge. It's now time to pass gas and get paid for it.
  7. Try being single in the same program as your ex-girlfriend, who decided to brake up with you a week before school started. You both moved to a strange city where neither knows anyone but each other, you have to see her every day for the next 2 1/2 years, and now you don't even talk to each other anymore. How awkward is that? Your classmates notice this unusual dynamic and you can't even talk about it. It' a small tight knit group and everyone knows everybody elses business. What are the odds of a couple both getting in the same program first of all and then this happeneing. It really adds to the list of stressors in the life of a sRNA. Thankfully my passion for become a Anesthetist has prevailed and I am approaching the end of my first year with a strong performance. Oh by the way did I mention she is dating someone else and I'm still single...
  8. There is a website http://www.cardiacengineering.com it has everything you need to know about perioperative Beta blocker use for reducing cardiac morbidity. All hospitals should implement protocols, this has been proven to save many lives. This website is awesome it has audio, and was designed by one of the original members of the Atenolol study 1996 NEJM. Check it out.
  9. I HAD ONLY 2 WEEKS TO TAKE THE GRE BECAUSE OF AN APPLICATION DEADLINE. IT WAS SINK OR SWIM FOR ME. I WAS STRESSED OUT SINCE MY ELEMENTARY MATH SKILLS SUCK, AND THOSE VOCABULARY WORDS ARE JUST TORTUROUS. HOWEVER, I REMEMBER IN MY SCHOOLS OPEN HOUSE THEY AND AVG. GRADE IS ABOUT A 450 ON EACH PART. MY PRACTICE SCORES LOOKED ALOT LIKE YOURS. I DOVE RIGHT IN AND TOOK THE TEST, GOT ONLY A 1010, AND THAT WAS SUFFICE. MY FRIEND GOT A 1000, AND GOT IN. I BET YOU'LL BREAK 1000 ON THE ACTUAL TEST JUST GO FOR IT. REMEBER THIS IS ONLY 1 FACTOR OUT OF MANY WEIGHED AGAINST YOUR APPLICATION.--BEST OF LUCK!
  10. I did one year as a staff nurse, than 2 years as a travel nurse, however i did select large teaching hospitals in which to do my assignments. I was recently selected into a CRNA program as well as 4-5 other travel nurses. It definitely counts, but you do need a year of experience before you can begin agency nursing.
  11. Raf2, and FutureSRNA I also will be beginning Univ. of Maryland's first Nurse anesthesist program. We have to set the standard. Look foward to meeting you guys on Aug. 17.
