Ooh parking is atrocious. There are two remote TMC lots you can use, the Smithlands and Brown lots. They run 6 bucks a day or 66 a month for a contract. You do get to ride TMC white for free, so you can get dropped off right at the corner of Bertner and Holcombe if you use the Brown lot. Smithlands is too far for school but great for Methodist or St. Luke's clinicals. You can also opt for a garage spot right behind UTHSC. It is 89 a month and is renewed on a semester basis. Lastly, there is the Mays garage across the street. Technically you aren't supposed to park there, but if you park on the 3rd level, they tend to not care. It is about 10 a day. It's very close and I parked there all the time as did many class mates. You also have the option of riding the metro and parking out at a park and ride. You can get a student pass so it is a reduced rate, and there is a stop right at the corner.

I have decided! I found that my passion is acute care nursing, so ICU is my first choice. There is something about all of the drips and sounds of the vents and alarms that is strangely calming. It's chaos at times but, organized chaos. Humm...things I wished I knew going in? 1. How horrible it is to be stuck in traffic at 5 after being in class 730-5. They really love to let classes out during rush hour. 2. Or that the Mays clinic across the street has way better food(I didn't figure that out until my 3rd semester). 3.I also didn't realize how much family time I would have to sacrifice. It was hard, but very worth it.4. You can buy older additions of your books in most cases. Or don't buy them at all. Most tests (aside from patho) can be aced based on the power points. That's all I can think of at 0145. I bet if I really thought about it tomorrow I can give you something more useful. :)

It is about the same as the traditional program. There is really no difference between the two. You take the same courses, with the same professors and the same hourly course load. The only difference is that the accelerated program is 15 months ( 4 semesters, 2 long and 2 summer) and the traditional is about 17 months ( 4 semesters, 3 long and one summer session).

Hey Guys: I JUST (as in 8/17) graduated from UTHSC Accelerated Nursing program. I know the number 1 question many of you guys have is "Is my GPA good enough? To be honest, we had over all GPA ranges entering anywhere from 2.5's (seriously) all the way up to 4.0's. What really matters is your science GPA and HESI's. They like to see a science over 3.0, but most of my class were 3.2 and higher. A high 80's/90's average on the HESI is pretty normal too. Don't stress too much about having a few "bad" grades. They know that you are human and things happen, what counts is how you recovered from those grades. I hope this kind of puts everyone at ease! I know how tightly wound applying for/being in nursing school can make you! Good Luck! ~BG

Certainly not! Every nursing school is different. Some look at several different combos of GPAs, like your over all, science and nursing pre req GPA, or some just look at your over all. Many of the schools that look at just a science and nursing pre req GPA don't even look at your basic biology courses as a part of your science GPA, they factor in your grades for the more advanced sciences like Microbiology, A&P I and II and Chem. Please don't misunderstand and think I am saying what you make doesn't matter, because it does affect your over all GPA. I say if you can pull out a C, keep going and shoot for making a B or better in the other courses you need (such as Micro, chem and A&P). Keep in mind that most schools require that your science GPA be a 3.0 or better. If you are thinking that you might not get a C or better, I say drop it and try to take it again in the Fall or Spring (and also think about taking it at a Jr. college so you can have a smaller class size and free tutoring). 12 weeks is SUPER intense for such an important and in depth course, and all of your other science courses (aside from Chem) will build on what is taught in Biology. Now with that said, Texas A&M HSC "says" they will accept someone with a 2.75 overall GPA, but I am not sure how true that is. I think a 3.0 and above is more along the lines of what they really want. Hell I had over a 3.0 after I graduated from TAMU and didn't get in there, but got in with UT HSC's accelerated program. Many other programs also say they will accept a 2.75 as well, it really just depends. Please don't get discouraged now before you even get to nursing school, if this is what you REALLY want, you will pull it out. I hope this helps!

That's awesome. I'm excited for you! I think I am going to request my clinical day be on Friday so I will have a day to study during the week and the weekend as well. If you are still here, and have to commute to La Grange for clinical that won't be too bad. Good Luck!!

You are very welcome! I am so glad it worked out for you! I'm really nervous about commuting to Houston for the UTHSC program but, it's only 15 months! Is the CC program 15 months too? Also, are your clinicals at the Med?

Yeah they failed to tell us in March too... I would have thought that they learned! I think there might be quite a few of us Ags too!

I'm 06 too! I asked because I'm going to commute from CS (nuts, I know!) but there are some people looking for roomates too. I'm not sure if they added it to your email, but along with your letter of intent you will need to send in a $50 registration deposit. Can't wait to meet you!

I did too! Does anyone else feel overwhelmed about the parking situation? I am not familiar with the area, so I have no idea what the best thing to do about parking is.

I bet we get them early next week. I think there are some Houston area hospitals who do the CPR course for free. You just have to find them.

Hey Carbon, I'm going to apply for the federal ones, but my husband has private ones. He applied through Wells Fargo. Theyre easy to deal with, and the application process was really simple.

Yeah that is what provisional admission is. As long as you get a c or better you're fine! FYI new admits, there us a SON scholarship and applications are due 4/9! I found it today on their financial aid page.

Mine arent that great. My nursing us 3.38, science is 3.2 and Hesi is 89.92% with 960/1000 for critical thinking, but I got in! Even after I cried in my interview like a crazy person!

Hopefully the packet they send us will clear it up or someone will call and really find out. If I recall, the letter we got said they were just adding the semester, so if they did take away the online courses, that is kinda messed up.

Carbon 13: That is what I was wondering too. My interviewer told me that the program was exactly the same, but was added on to in length. When I called the SON, she said there were no courses online for the accelerated now. The letter we got only said they added a semester. Other people say there will be SOME courses online... I think we need to clear up the confusion! Who wants to call the SON? lol

Yeah I am still not sure about what courses are online and what aren't, that throws a major wrench in my ability to go to UT Houston, so I don't know what will happen. I don't remember checking the consider me for the fall box... but I might have. The lady told me, "I only see one application for you, and it is for accelerated so that is what you got in to." If you have questions, call them! you can get to a real person by using the number to the student affairs office, but change up the last two digits to 04, 05 or 06.

OK Guys I called the SON this morning to clear it up. If you only applied to the accelerated like me and it says Generic Program, it is the accelerated program. (She looked it up for me). Since it is four semesters it is I guess they are calling it "generic" rather than accelerated since we are taking the same course load as the generic, just starting in May. I was also informed that all the web based classes are no longer. My interviewer failed to let me know that when I was there. Am I the ONLY person who didn't know that? Congrats to everyone who got in!!

Beth is right, if you have some outstanding prereqs, your acceptance is contingent you you completing them with a C or better. That's what I was told in my interview.

Yeah I have all of those holds now too, including the admissions documents one, just no status change. I interviewed on Feb. 15th. Do we know if anyone has been accepted to the accelerated program yet? Or only generic thus far? Good luck everyone!
