How to handle this...is it neglect or stupidity?
I think this is a case of ignorance.... The patient has a bill of rights so they have the right to decide, but maybe the powers of persuasion and education will work...such as 1. Open discussion re her future goals for the child? How does she see him in the future...what accomplishments can she foresee for him/her..how can the P-M help in accomplishing these goals... 2. Give her options such as why don't you pick a time of day to use this and gradually increase the time, but let mom have choice in the hours of the day...esp during the day when strides can be made...maybe she fears that the child will do better or worse than she expects...let's face it some parents just dont want things to change... 3. If she still insists, then you can always say she is noncompliant and document all along your efforts to instruct and teach, contact md re this issue up front with the efforts you are making...if she wants to continue with outside nursing care then she needs to be compliant with recommendations or some mds and nursing agencies will discontinue the care....

More interested in foot care...what route?
I find I tend to have a bit of a "foot fetish"...:jester:well, just tend to be more interested in feet and foot care...how many of you are working primarily with feet? Would I still be better off to pursue WOCN to include foot care/ and or what is the certification from WCEI...from what I am reading that is a certification but more hospitals tend to employ WOCNs?

Am I dumb or what?
Make sure you try a different professor next time as well. If its not too late, drop the class before you end up with the C...will a higher grade replace this one? I think it will still affect your GPA even if they take the higher grade.. May need to try a different school. My daughter is trying to get scheduled to take A&P at one school and can"t get in as classes fill so quickly...some people have told her to try the next over com college and to take online as the instructor there uses all Power point and covers everything on the exam via power point...btw...I made a C in my first A&P but B's in the second one and in all my nursing classes made an A or B...so don't decide that nursing is all how ya do in A&P...keep trying...you only live once!

Questions re Frontier School for FNP clinical portion
Thanks for all your advice and support...I've been reading from a distance for some time and now have my own questions, need encouragement, and advice.... For those of you who have experience or know what is required at Frontier School for FNP... 1-How does the clinical portion work? 2-How many different sites did it take for you to complete your objectives-and what type of site would you recommend...for example...do Health Depts. generally allow FNP students? 3-I've read that it is recommended to have preceptors in mind well ahead of time...how many preceptors or is it just one who would oversee us at different sites or how likely is it to meet all objectives at one site? 4-Do you find it difficult to transition from RN to FNP re decisions, etc... Sideline: I have been a nurse for 18 yrs minus time home with my children for 5 yrs. (homeschooled my children with tourette's) ...2 are in school now, one has graduated... Another sideline: Started nurse in cardiac (CCU, ICU, Post cardiothoracic recovery-that's been greater than 10 yrs ago) neurology, then home health for the past 5 yrs working per diem but have managed to work anywhere from 3 to 4 days weekly until past month-work is drying up... I am convinced this may be the school for me, but I am thinking I should apply to more than one...one somewhat local (1 hr away) but some people say that is harder on clinicals as we have to go to their sites which could be up to 2 hrs away...(won't work for me...). Thank you in advance for any advice or comments...feeling a little nervous abt the next step...I am 46 afterall, 3 kids, 1 grandchild (1 1/2 yrs who lives with me-her mom as well, but she is in school too)...I am an old moma and young grandma!!! Thanks again! Looking forward to hearing from you!

Career Pathing
I completely understand...the good news is that it sounds like you like alot of jobs in nursing!!! I graduated from BSN Nursing in 1992. I went into a critical care residency program after rotating all sorts of units as a nurse tech while in school. Worked in heart unit with post ops and interventionals abt 5/6 yrs then 8-5 sounded good so left to work in neurology office. There for a yr, had 2nd baby, and wanted part time (and didn't care for 8-5 so much), and went back to my original love, the hearts....stayed there another year or so, and moved with husband's job and worked in a CCU for a year, and then, husband job moved us to another state....home for a few months then went to work for a temp agency...worked one on one with a 30 yr old vent pt for 8 hrs...got a lifetime of inspiration from this amazing guy, but never went back as that really was not for me....did a temp job in hospital in a cath lab recovery for abt 3 months. got preganant....miscarried....decided to stay home with my 2 children...both had tourette's syndrome and decided to homeschool them... antoher baby and then went to work weekends with Home Health...oldest graduated high school...middle schooler went to school, tics and all...(different personality)...third child started Kindergarten and I worked days at home health...just recently that jobs seems to be drying up and I am considering FNP school..oh, and have a grandchild and all kids living at home! Nursing has been a wonderfully adaptive career for me...didn't really plan anything except the critical care residency....what's ahead?
