Pro-active steps to landing a hospital job
Tell them you are going to be a RN, hospitals love this. Also, just keep trying. I applied at a half dozen hospitals before I got my job.

How Can I get Experience If...nobody gives me a chance?
Don't give up. I recently got my CNA cert. too. I must have applied at every hospital within a 30 mile radius from my house. I kept trying and trying... got my cert. in July and start my new job at a LTAC hospital on Monday the 3rd! I couldn't be more excited. I think what helped me is that I did care for a family friend for a few months until she passed. Maybe you could volunteer to help out some one that has an elderly parent and later use that as experience. Also keep in mind hospitals take like 1 and half months from the time you apply and interview to actually start because of all the screening they do. Good luck :redpinkhe

Job hunting and Cna resume ...need some help !
Hey there I'm in your shoes! Just got my first CNA job filling out the paperwork and taking the drug test tomorrow. Well when I applied since I had no experience I would write "Negotiable" or "starting" under salary. I would say money is better with hospitals then LTC then nursing homes. Expect to make like 11-13hr at a hospital then if you work night shift about 1.50hr more if weekends then another 1.50hr. I got my license in July have been applying got my interview begining of November and am just now finalizing it, I was told that hospitals take a long time on the hiring process which turned out to be true for me.. GOOD LUCK!

Normal to wait this long for pre employment follow up
I don't know why the hiring process can be so crazy! I interviewed 3 weeks ago (great interview) the person interviewing me asked what hrs I was available (the position was part time) I told them I was open and could work as many hrs as needed.. they circled FT... they called me to let me know the shift charge nurse wanted to do a phone interview with me. Then nothing... So I called to follow up and they said that they hadn't called me back because there were no FT positions available and now they thought that even the PT position had been filled ... they said that they would have someone call me to let me know when I could come in to fill out paperwork but I haven't gotten that call that was about 2 days ago...I don't know if I'm in or out I would just like to know one way or another!! Sorry to vent!

A means to live?
Okay, so I just got my CNA license not too long ago. I have dreams of being a nurse, (currently in school) meeting my patients,... and wearing my scrubs. I currently work in the corporate world. I'm very good at it..... it makes me great money,....it makes me miserable. I dream of helping people changing their clothes, feeding them, and everything else. I currently work at one of the nations largest insurance brokerages....BUT I dream of being a nurse! I am quiting my job to be a CNA in order to get my experience so that I can actually be hired as a RN one day. AM I CRAZY?!??! leaving this well paying job to be a cna and eventually meet my goal? Anyone in my shoes??

Nursing school will be hard I have two kids, 9mos and 3 yrs old but I couldn't be more exciteddddd! I dream of wearing scrubs and meeting my first patients. GOOD LUCK to you and welcome!

CNA-Can u become a CNA w/o going to a training program?
In Florida you can dispute the test so no you don't have to take training classes. You can check out the book in your local library and watch you tube videos on the skills. Take the practice test on prometric to make sure you're okay with the written portion. The test is 120 dollars if you fail the written or the skills you can retake and only have to pay for that portion of it. So for example if you fail the skills you only have to pay 60 dollars to retake the skills and not the full 120. I just got my license in FL this year. Good luck Im also getting my feet wet, I am completing my prereqs right now for nursing school!!! :)

Pregnancy: best during nursing school or as a new hire?
Well I have two children(not in NS school yet), while I was pregnant I worked full time and school partime (prereqs) as hard as everyone says NS is I couldn't imagine being pregnant while in NS. Just being in regular classes I had pregnancy brain, alot harder to concentrate and my memory was terrible! I would suggest establishing your career first, why make it harder than you have to? Good Luck
