Pay rates for PCT/Care Partner?
I just got a job as a care tech in Richmond, VA. The HR rep that I was speaking with said the pay ranged from 9-12 per/hr depending on experience. It depends on the hospital though I guess? Some care techs are responsible for more than others. I know that what I am making is more than some of what the other hospitals in the area, but that is because the care tech at the hospital that I am working for are responsible for more than the other hospitals in the area.

J. Sargeant Reynolds RN Program 2012-2013
Hi soulshine101 I just finished my first semester at JSR. It was very intense. I have two children and I don't work, I studied my tush off to make it through and it was a struggle. I think out of the 60 that got in by the end we had about 40 left. I don't know how doing it in the summer would be because 16 weeks was INTENSE. All the people who ended up passing had NO LIFE and we all just studied. I noticed a lot of the people who worked while doing the program either withdrew in the middle of the semester or failed out. You have to maintain an 80 or higher to pass. You're only grades are 5 test and that's it. Just a lot of work. Be prepared to put in A LOT of time.

I've ordered all my books. I have my physical next week and am waiting on my immunization record to get here so I can take that to the DR office. I have to order the background check next week. Since I just got in last week I am now rushing to get everything together, lol. But I should have everything done in time. What is the brand of the scrubs? I want to see if I can find a more flattering style! lol.

I originally wanted section 2 based on the handout from orientation, but then they switched the clinical to Sat . So I picked section 6, but theres a conflict with NUR 226 06 lab time. ( it's been a little unorganized, but I guess that's to be expected in any program?) So now I just have to wait and see what they change the NUR 226 lab to. A little frustrating, but at least there's a little more than a month until we start so hopefully they work it out! Thank you again for all your support with everything! I am so happy to be in!

I agree. Since you want to do GP learning every area is a must! You never know our clinical rotations may surprise us and change our minds. I've wanted to do neonatal since I was in high school. Then I got pregnant with my first son and had him at 28 weeks gestation. He spent almost 3 months in the NICU at Henrico Doctors. After that experience I knew it was what I was meant for. Then I got pregnant with my second son, after 15 weeks of bed rest and a lot of pre-term labor scares I delivered at 35.5 weeks. I was so happy to make it that far and thought there might be a chance for him to come home with me right away. Though he was a very large and healthy 7 lbs, he came out not breathing and wasn't able to breathe on his own ( even though I had betamethazone injections) so back to the NICU we went. He was only there for a week, but after those experiences I just new I had found my "calling". Was there something that "pushed" you into nursing? I love hearing the "Why I knew I wanted to be a nurse" stories.

Yes!! Study groups are a MUST. I've been emailing every hospital to see if there are any potential NICU/PCN volunteer oppertunities. I know that that isn't typical because it's critical care, but I do have a few connections in the NICU since both of my kids were there for so long :). Hopefully I hear some good news from them :).

Hey! It's been so nice to go through all of this with y'all. We need to keep in touch!! Aprincess- They 'make' you put a last name on facebook, but I just put my middle name in as my last that way if an not one can search for me using my full name. I like to think it keeps things somewhat private :). Good luck with the NVCC program! I will post as soon as I hear something!! Hopefully soon, but they said they have been known to contact people on the first day of classes. I took my boys in for a tour of the school that they will be going to...eeeekkk now I just need for them to let me in officially!

Nursing Student Considering NICU
Thank goodness I found this board. I am also a nursing student looking to pursue NICU. I was just wondering is there anything that I can do in school to help gear me to going into this field of nursing? Also when looking for a job in NICU would it also be helpful to add in that I am a NICU parent (oldest son 28 weeks, youngest 35 weeks)?I don't know if that experience would help? Thanks for any input! I really appreciate it!

Ahhh I don't have Twitter. I made one a while back, but have no idea how to work it. I found the article on the press center. You have so many amazing accomplishments. You really are a wonder woman. So amazing! JSR is so lucky to have such a well-rounded woman in their nursing program. You're going to make an amazing RN ( and eventually NP). :)

lol. Well your good connections have been so helpful to me! Thank you so much for keeping me updated on everything that you have heard! Since I have taken a lot of my classes through distance learning (because of my children) it's been hard to meet people in the program. Hopefully I'll get my phone call/email soon! I really hope I get in for the fall!! I really want to hear before the info session! I dropped of my letter saying I 'accept' my spot on Friday when I took my CPR class. Now I just have to wait and see if I get in officially!!
