  1. i would say if you have the time/money to invest in kaplan - do it!! i did kaplan and did all that they tell you to do (mad a study plan for myself, did all 7 question trainers, and i did 100% of the q-bank) and knew i was ready to test once i got over a 65% on question trainer 7. i passed the nclex with 75 questions... kaplan was honestly my savior. best of luck!
  2. took the nclex-rn yesterday, got 75 questions and walked out feeling like a complete failure...... sure enough one hour later i tried the pvt and got the good pop up:yeah:i have been compulsively checking it today to make sure i still get it, haha! now just waiting for 10am tomorrow so i can view the quick results!!
  3. i did kaplan and it was worth every penny!!! at first i was scoring kind of low... like 54%-58% on the qbank quizzes and first question trainer or so... then i looked at the online lectures and followed through with my kaplan book. i read the entire kaplan book (like a psycho, haha). after i finished doing all of that, my scores really started to go up. i got a 64% on question trainer 6 and a 67% on question trainer 7, which they say at 65% you should be ready to test. i did 100% of the qbank with a 60% average. i started studying the week after graduation, so around may 16th.. but i wasn't studying very hard at that point. probably the 2nd week of june is when i really cracked down and studied nearly 8 hours a day. another book that really helped me was prioritization, delegation, and assignment by lacharity, kumagai and bartz. good luck, it honestly is not nearly as bad as you're made to believe it's going to be!!!! you will do great!!! :)
  4. i passsssssssssseddddddd!!!!!!!! with 75 questions!!! never been so proud of myself!!! but...getting the good pop up does mean i passed right?! haha!
  5. awesome!!! that makes me feel so much better!! congrats to you!! how exciting! i'm hoping for the same news myself:) i really do feel well prepared thanks to kaplan, just need to make sure i don't let my nerves override that feeling....
  6. hello everyone, i take my nclex this coming tuesday (the 21st) and i was wondering.... for those who have done kaplan, what was your overall q-bank average, and what did you get on question trainers 6 & 7??? so far i have done 95% of the q-bank with a 60% average. i took question trainer 6 today and got a 64%... planning to do #7 tomorrow or so. am i ready to test????? and do you think kaplan helped you to feel well prepared? please help me calm my nerves. :)
  7. I have actually hung IV/piggyback, started successful IV's, inserted catheters, etc... I had an internship in the Surgical Unit of a local hospital over the summer.. which REALLY HELPED, and I loved it!!! BUT, what I am saying is that I do not get to do enough of these skills...even though I did that from May - July last summer, I haven't done any of that since. And for me, if I don't use it I feel like I'm losing it! I think what happened with my school is they took on WAY too many students, so they have nowhere to put us all for clinical! So we go to random sites, for example, in my OB rotation we were sent to local grade schools to teach children about their heart/nutrition/etc...how that relates to OB?! no idea. I am so lucky to be in the ICU for clinical this semester, and starting February 16th I have an internship in the ER. I truly hope being on both of these units gets me to where I need to be by graduation!
  8. I have just begun my last semester in nursing school (graduate May 14th) and had my very first clinical in the ICU on Monday. I enjoyed it and all, but it made me realize how UNPREPARED I am to become a nurse in a few short months. I get good grades and I guess you could say I am "book smart", I just feel that my school has NOT properly prepared me for the real world. I have very little clinical skills and I feel this is truly sad with it being my last semester. I am terrified to graduate because of this. I am embarrassed to tell nurses on the floor that it is my last semester because of my lack of clinical skills and confidence. I feel my nursing school has focused too much on book work and has NOT given us enough floor time. Does anyone else feel this way???
