  1. ash_ley: I think White Memorial might not be accepting anymore applications. I learned that they only accepted applications between october 1 - 7 from a lady in human resources. But, you can call them to make sure. missxrara: Thanks for keeping us updated, and Congratulations on getting an interview! Good luck to you! :)
  2. I haven't heard anything yet from White Memorial.
  3. I went to a job fair and the USC rep said that new grad openings will be posted on October 1. So far, I haven't seen anything on New grad positions on the website, but it will probably be up sometime soon.
  4. I can't speak for White Memorial, but I would think that a hospital would prioritize an applicant based on how they would respond to certain situations, how they'd treat their patients, and their qualities. I'm sure that there are a lot of employees at White Memorial who have diverse religious backgrounds. I remember from last year's application, White Memorial sent out a questionnaire that had situational/ behavioral questions. And i believe, based on this questionnaire, White Memorial chose who would advance in the interview process.
  5. Hi marie, RN, I also applied to White Memorial. I'm hoping and praying that I get a call from them too. I agree, let's keep each other updated through this process. Good luck to you and to everyone applying!
  6. Hi Kwillpassnclex13, I completed the application but I wasn't given the 100 question survey after I submitted. I contacted CHLA recruitment office, but I wasn't able to speak to someone, so I left a message to ask about it. I'm wondering if we were supposed to get it right after we submitted the application. =/
  7. Reading this totally reminded me of what I went through. MY UD told me the same thing. I was given two weeks to show that I can handle taking care of patients on my own. I felt the same stress and pressure. And I lost weight because of that stress. And here is what I can tell you that my friends told me, when I was sad and crying after my meeting with my UD. It's not the end of the world. Think about what you have in your life. Think about what you learned, your support system, family, food, shelter. If you have read The Alchemist, the message says that "when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it." You may have mixed feelings right now but if you reflect and see that you still love nursing despite this situation, then keep at it. God will help you find a place that is better for you, and he will open doors for you if you believe it. I know it's not as easy as it sounds but keep positive, pray, find your support system. Everything will be OK.
  8. That sounds SO wonderful! I've heard from plenty of sources that the first 6 months -- 1 year may be the most overwhelming for a new grad nurse, so it's nice that you'll have year long training. Plus, I'm glad you feel comfortable with the people you'll be working with. It definitely makes the new grad to staff nurse transition so much easier. I'm happy for you...seems like you landed a perfect new grad opportunity!
  9. Congratulations jnnkrstngmz! =] Anuong05, If I'm not mistaken, you were offered a position too. Congratulations =] !! May I ask, which floor will you be working on? It's such a huge accomplishment to land a new grad position and in a very good teaching hospital too. Good luck! I believe I will be seeing you in the near future!
  10. Nurseteee: I wasn't called for an interview. I actually waited a week after my calc test and finally called my recruiter, who then set up interviews for me. If i didn't call, I don't know when I'd receive a call. So, don't give up hope! Give em a call :)
  11. hello! as far as I know, applicants don't need to bring unofficial transcripts, essay, LORs, resumes. At least I didn't. ooops! But it definitely wouldn't hurt. It will most likely help! According to HR, a couple slots have been filled. But all depends on the unit manager. Some of the unit managers are waiting to interview all candidates before selecting. And I'm guessing interview slots are getting filled quickly, which is probably why Med-Surg was not available. Anyway, still good news that there are plenty of slots open for us. GOOD LUCK! Happy Holidays everyone!
  12. I have no idea how many people they have selected so far, but I do know that Med-surg is not available according to my recruiter (Med-surg was one of my choices). I also applied to telemetry and pediatrics. Telemetry is hiring two and pediatrics is hiring two.
  13. Just to update everybody, the nurse recruiter said WMMC is hiring 20 new grads, around 1-2 per unit, and there are 700 applicants.
  14. Thank you so much anuong05 for the update! So your classmate is hired on the South Adult Unit? That's awesome! Congratulations to her! And congrats to us for making it this far. I'm really hoping and praying we get hired at White Memorial. Good luck to us all.:)
  15. =/, I'm sorry you had to go through that mix up. I would have been frustrated myself. But on the bright side, you can still take it next Wednesday :). Just curious but do you know mind sharing what unit your classmate was interviewing for? Thanks for the updates, and good luck on your calculations test and the rest of the process!
  16. Hi everyone, I just wanted to ask if there are any updates from White Memorial. I went through the panel interview and then the drug calculation test last Wednesday, but I haven't heard anything from HR since. Good luck to everyone applying to new grad programs! :) I hope everyone hears good news over the holidays.
  17. I called HR and she said it takes approximately 1 week to be called back/emailed after the initial email (that says to prepare your references and expect a call from talent plus). Also, we need to be patient because there are SO many applicants. Good luck to everyone!
  18. look out for the application at the end of October.
  19. To SDchick, I contacted the nurse recruiter on Monday and she told me that I didn't get the position. I might apply to the January program. Good Luck with your job search! I'm hopeful that we'll find jobs soon, now that more new grad programs are opening up.
  20. To Apple56, Thanks for your response. I called Nurse Recruiter last week, and she told me that the unit managers will update me as soon as they review my application and references. So, I've just been patiently waiting and wondering if I got the job. I realized last Friday that it's really been a LONG while since I last heard from them, I'm hoping they weren't going to leave me hanging like this. I shall contact the nurse recruiter on Monday to follow up and hopefully get confirmation. Thanks for the GL wishes. CONGRATULATIONS! I hope you enjoy working at UCSD Med Center. It really seems like a great place to work with nice managers.
  21. So according to dictionary.com, discrimination is defined as "treatment or consideration of, or making a distinction in favor of or against, a person or thing based on the group, class, or category to which that person or thing belongs rather than on individual merit". I feel like that's a perfect word to describe this situation: new grads are grouped as unqualified, when experienced nurses hired may be incompetent experienced nurses. New grads may have had wonderful clinical experiences that set them apart from other applicants, but are not given the chance to shine. So, all individuals should be given consideration to show their potential, experiences, and work ethic. I believe that many new grad nurses are assets to facilities. As a new grad myself, I am willing to learn, I am flexible and openminded. And because a good number of new grads enter the workforce with this open-mindedness and eagerness to grow, these hospitals/ facilities will not be disappointed...they'll be making good investments. I admire all those nurse managers who are willing to see an individual's potential to determine whether to hire or not hire.
  22. To Apple 56: Have you heard from UCSD Med Center yet? It's been almost 2 weeks since my reference surveys were sent, and I haven't heard from managers/recruitment. I'm guessing that I wasn't one of the 9 to be selected since the program starts soon. Anyway, back to the job hunt I go. To all those applying to new grad programs, good luck to us all! Have faith :)! Jeremiah 29:11
  23. To mj_ecko: According to HR, the program begins October 19. I have applied to the October program, and I haven't heard anything yet after my interview and references.
