Hi Shorty, I am so sorry for what you are going through. I wondered if you ever tried something with your daughter. Have you ever made it perfectly clear that the cutting and other things won't be tolerated by you? I don't know, but my nephew was doing that stuff, because apparently in some teenage circles it's cool and gets you attention. My sister told him absolutely no more of it or he was going to a Psychiatrists. Guess what? It worked. Maybe that won't work for everyone, but self esteem with a teenager is such a fragile thing. Does she feel like her new Dr. is going to help her?

Jennifer, I agree with prnmeds, but I am not a Dr. I believe you need to be under a physician's care. Select a physician very carefully. Get a second opinion. It's very important to have a physician that you feel comfortable with! There are a lot of good Doc's around do some interviewing.......listen to your intuition. You know yourself better than anyonelse ever will. I don't think I need to tell you, that if something happens with you and you just stopped taking your meds how bad that could be for you without being under the care of a physician. Take care of yourself!!!!!!

I'm sorry nuttyrn. I had gotten your problem mixed up with the other nurse that had been working in psych.. I still think you should get a second opinion, though and there is no reason why you can't work at what you do best.

I am not even close to being someone that is politically active, but there are several research programs sponsored by the National Institues of Mental Health that need to be evaluated for standards of care. Did you know that a patient can be court ordered to receive treatment from one of those research programs, but the professionals in charge of the program, say "We don't have to adhere to those standards, because this isn't clinical it's research." I'm a registered nurse and I am a little confused about statements like that. What does one mean when they say they don't have to meet basic standards of medical care in providing treatment to someone that is forced to recieve treatment from them? Who gives them permission to deviate from those standards or does it stem from the fact that "certified nuts", can't sue? Did you know while being evaluated for their diagnostic research and being given a label you can actually have an MRI, CT scan, or a PET scan with no radiology report. One should assume that the radiographic study is "normal" if there is no radiologist report. I don't know where any of you went to school and maybe I am just getting old, but if it isn't written it was never done. Does that alarm anyone? It alarms me, but what do I know? I am just a nurse. It concerns me that MILLIONS OF DOLLARS in research information is lost. Hey, it's our tax dollars at work. Patient's can be hurt. How many of you know Psychiatrists that are experts in reading films and better yet first year Resdidents? I am not talking about some fly by night research group. I am writing about an actual research program at a major teaching university that is going to be running for 15 years. How many valid canidates do you think they have as research subjects? WHO IS SUPPOSED TO BE POLICING THESE PROJECTS? JACHO? They are happening in JACHO accredited hospitals.

I agree 100% with Ginger. The only thing that concerns me is that it sounds like you were just recently diagnosed and that you are dealing with some trauma related issues at the same time????????

How old are you? Who gave you the diagnosis of bi-polar?

Who Is Diagnosing 4 Year Olds With A Mental Illness? I Would Question Any Professional Including Those Specialized In Child Psyh.. I Would Suggest Seeking More Than One Opinion By Child Pscyhiatrists, I Would Just Be Careful That You Don't End Up Hurting The Child By Exposing Them To Psychiatric Treatment.

TEENAGERS COMMITED FORCED TO TAKE MEDICATION THAT DAMAGES THEIR BRAINS. GET DR. WILLIAM GLASSER'S BOOK PSYCHIATRY CAN BE DANGEROUS TO YOUR MENTAL HEALTH. W HAT HE SAYS ABOUT HAPPINESS IS AT THE ROOT OF MOST THINGS. I ALMOST KILLED MYSELF ON AN SSRI AND GOD KNOWS THE PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT I RECEIVED AFTER THAT WOULD SCARE THE WHATEVER OUT OF ANYONE! THE FOLLOW UP TREATMENT DID NOT CONSIST OF BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT. WHAT IS THIS BIOLOGICAL TREATMENT THAT PSYCHIATRIC PROFESSIONALS SPEAK OF? RULING OUT PHYSICAL DISORDERS BEFORE GIVING SOMEONE A LABEL? PUSHING PILLS. I COULD TAKE ANYONE OF YOU TO LONG TERM CARE FACILITIES AROUND THE COUNTRY AND INTRODUCE YOU TO PEOPLE WHO HAVE TAKEN MEDICATION AND IT CERTAINLY DOESN'T APPEAR TO HAVE BENEFITED THEM, OFTEN TIMES IN SEEING THEM YOU WONDER.......GEE, WHAT WERE THEY LIKE BEFORE THEY GOT MEDICATION? WE ARE TOO EAGER TO GIVE PEOPLE PILLS. AND TO THE PERSON THAT WAS QUESTIONING SCHIZOPHRENIA FOR THAT WOMAN'S TEENAGE DAUGHTER........THAT GIRL HAS THINGS GOING ON.....BUT BETTER MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS THAT SHE HAS WRONG WITH HER BEFORE GIVING HER A LABEL LIKE THAT.
