Your least favorite patient.
Whats your least favorite type of patient to take care of in the ER..... Well for at least those patients, I am actually doing ER nursing. My least favorite complaint is that of back pain (chronic) - because while I am helping the RN who has that patient or someone is assisting me with a TRUE emergency reqardless if intentional, it is the patient with a problem that is non-life or limb threatening that feels as if his/her problem is more severe than that of anyone else in the ER. :angryfire

Nurscee's Freaking Out!
You seem to be doing good for a new nurse managing near that of a more experienced one. Unfortunately, stress does come with the job. Your skills will develop with time and you'll wonder why you ever worried. Stay on your toes - get a few good pair of Nikes and smile. If you still love what you do, keep doing it!

Any tips for starting IVs?
Don't hesititate. Swoop, scoop, and go. Keep an attitude that YOU are the only one there that can get it - there is no one else. Also, talk to the patient, forget any one else in the room. Putting the patient at ease will help you less edgy and able to do the job!:)

Nurses wearing white
I work at a hospital where each position has their own color scrubs to work - that way not only staff but patients/visitors are able to distinguish caregivers. A poster is in every room that displays who wears what color and describes the position. And yes, nurses wear white. I've worked at this hospital for nearly 8 years now and the nurses have always worn white. I like the idea behind it, but my feelings of an ER nurse weraing white is much worse than most other areas. I have found that most of the white uniforms have a soil release and do keep white for quite a while as long as I use a good detergent (I use Tide with Bleach alternative). Good luck.

Night Nurses-Pts think we sleep?
where i work, residents of the city KNOW we don't sleep. How do I know? Because everyone seems to think that they will get to see a doctor quicker at night, especially if they have children that have been running fever for days-weeks, not medicating for fever control, and all of a sudden it is an emergency at 0200 in the morning!
