  1. Hi everyone. So I took the NCLEX this past Monday and passed it. I couldn't be anymore relieved after seeing the words "pass" on the pearson vue website. My question is how long does it take for the Connecticut BON to post my RN license on the state's eLicensing website? The reason I ask is because my manager said that it was fine to start precepting as long as I had proof that I passed the NCLEX considering it was just a waiting game for the BON to officially list my license on the website. I called HR today and they told me they've been solely looking for my license number to pop up and after I told them I passed the NCLEX and have the results to fax over, they didn't really care too much for the results and were more interested in the license number. I start work next Monday and I'm worried the license won't be posted in time.
  2. Thank you everyone for the reply! Ashley, my friend and I had the same idea as you but a majority of our class thought it was the high RR.
  3. So myself and a couple of my classmates are going over some NCLEX type questions in our book and came across one that a lot of has are half/half on. Here is some background into the case. Case: A patients' arterial blood gas results include pH: 7.37; PaCO2: 55.4; PaO2:51.2; HCO3: 38; O2 sat:82%. These results are interpreted as compensated respiratory acidosis with hypoxemia. The question goes as follows: The nursing assistant took morning vital signs on this patient and immediately reported the following to the nurse. Which takes priorit when notifying the physician? a. Heart rate 96 per minute b. Blood pressure 160/90 c. Respiratory rate 34 per minute d. Temperature 103.5 orally
  4. I got accepted into the program. Did anyone else? Would love to get to know everyone.
  5. Hey all, I was accepted into the QU Accelerated BSN program for the upcoming class of 2013. I just made this thread to see if anyone else on this forum was accepted as well (and as a means to network). I'm also curious where everyone is coming from, what you did before getting into this program, what degrees you hold, etc.. Congrats to anyone that was accepted! I look forward to meeting everyone.
  6. I actually sent him the obituary, the article and a picture of me and my friend to prove I wasn't making it up.
  7. Hey all, Last weekend my best friend died in a tragic car accident. The least of my worries was the fact that my chemistry books and notes were in his trunk and were burnt in the fire. I spoke to my chemistry lab professor about this and he practically "shooed" me away via e-mail. I didn't go to any classes all week except for his lab which was in itself a miracle that I could hold myself to do one that morning. I had to scramble for any notes that I could come up with and obviously couldn't make a decent lab report but was hoping he would be lenient considering what had happened. He gave me a 13 out of 20 and my grade went from an A- to a B. I know this doesn't seem like a huge deficit but I don't think it's fair that my grade has to suffer over circumstances I couldn't control. I was wondering if I should speak to him one-on-one? I don't want to speak to the program director because the last thing I want to do is get him in trouble and have him grade me hard every week. Should I not even worry about it? I don't know what to do, I may just bite my cheek and leave it in the past.
  8. Hey all, I am a biomedical studies student at a university in CT. Class registration is coming up and my advisor told me that if I wanted to get into the accelerated nursing track at my university then I do not need to take any more chemistry courses because I met the criteria for the chemistry requisites which is eight credits (I took a CHE 101 then jumped to CHE110). She kind of changed her mind just recently and is causing me to contemplate the next step which is the second portion of the general chemistry curriculum (CHE 111). My problem is that I have made my schedule already and it looks great with pathophysiology (3 credits), clinical immunobiology (w/ lab @ 4 credits), mental health and addictions (an elective I chose, 3 credits), human anatomy (with cadaver dissection labs @ 4 credits) and a simple "Intro to Medical Terminology" course worth 2 electives so it totals out to 16 credits. I tried augmenting my schedule to accommodate chemistry but it will result in me having to space out many of my courses with up to 3 hour breaks on some days. I also work part-time and volunteer as an EMT so this is a hassle. I struggle VERY much with chemistry and manage to get low B's in it but I really do not want to find myself in another semester having to neglect studying for other courses so that I can keep up with chemistry. Should I just stick to my schedule that I will really enjoy and not worry about chemistry anymore or should I suck it up and just take the chemistry and change my schedule solely for it?
  9. Hey all, I'm in quite a bit of a cross-roads right now. I've been with my girlfriend for 7 months and it has been absolutely great. I've gone through a couple relationships, my longest being 3 years and I can tell this girl is unlike any other. We get along so great and have the best time together. Our sense of humor is exactly the same and we have tons of inside jokes we share together. Now for alittle background into the story; she's a public relations major and I am a biomedical science/health science studies major (going to go for an accelerated nursing route once I graduate). Obviously our course-loads and disciplines are basically complete polar opposites (if that makes sense?). This semester has been very, VERY time-consuming. I am an EMT on the side and have cadaver labs at Yale, pharmacology night classes, infectious disease classes, organic chemistry lab/lecture, advanced human anatomy lab/lectures and even a research study I am getting a grant for from my university to conduct on fomites in pre- and post- hospital settings. Her hardest class as of now she told me is a photojournalism course in conjunction with her senior capstone.....where she has to take pictures of scenery in CT. Lately she has been awfully moody and very temperamental due to the fact that I see her maybe twice or luckily three times a week because I am continuously studying for hours on end and conducting my own research. She's been telling me I don't care and basically getting really run down. I try to cheer her up telling her this is only temporary and soon enough we'll be together all the time we just have to be patient but she doesn't understand what I'm saying. She is too into the "now" as opposed to the "then." Don't get me wrong I try to see her, show her affection, text/call her between classes but I really have so many constraints that keep me from being able to be with her everyday. I am wondering if I should break it off for her sake in a way in which we can stay friends and possibly get back together when we both graduate or when she maybe understands things more systematically and why I did it. I don't know if I'm just being egotistical and ignorant but I'd really like someone else's two cents on the matter because this is just more stress I DEFINITELY do not need. - Tommy P.S- sorry about not being able to format paragraphs, I'm guessing it won't allow a tab?
  10. THAT'S WHAT I WANTED TO DO so so bad, I heard ROTC is only for entering freshman though who are planning to go a full 4 years. I would only be going for a solid year from May to May. I don't think I'm able to do that.
  11. thanks alot for the support, I'm just really nervous about the whole re-applying to the program thing. Feels like I'm back in freshman year haha.
  12. Hey all, I am a current senior (21 yr. old) attending Quinnipiac University in CT. I was in the nursing program at this school after I transferred from UConn my sophomore year. Unfortunately, a family tragedy arose and I dropped out of the program because I was unable to make the 4 year completion mark for my bachelors. Fortunately I left on very good terms. I am about to graduate with a degree in Health Science Studies and want to enroll in an accelerated nursing program and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with that? I have been an EMT-I for quite some time, have a phlebotomy certification (although I do not necessarily use it) and have volunteered in Dharamsala, India and Chiang Mai, Thailand. My current GPA is about a 3.4 and was wondering if this is competitive enough to get accepted along with my few credentials? My dream was to become a Combat Nurse/Medic right after college and serve America before I could come back (hopefully) and begin my masters to become a Nurse Anesthetist. Hopefully I didn't "royally screw" myself over because of an unexpected tragedy that kind of veered me off track from pursuing my goals. Thanks for any input. - Tommy
