The comments were not from you but they were on this thread. There have been comments about mental illness and various forms of government assistance. Pay here is over $40/hour for an experienced RN. Thats close to a six figure salary if you work some overtime. How much money does one need even for a really hard job? My sister actually makes less than $40/hour as an MD. She seems pretty happy. She took less money to work in a clinic for poor people. Maybe you could get out of the hospital and find an RN job with better conditions.

I noticed that. The narcotics etc. just keep coming in the ER then no more meds after your admitted. Oh well.

The bottle neck is the nursing schools. Here in CA the salaries have gone way up. Many people are trying to get into nursing. We want to help the patients and YES we want the high pay. However I will have to be a super-competitive to get one of those rare slots in a nursing school. Clearly, there are systemic problems with the health care system. The patients -- even the crazy, egocentric, welfare cheats that you seem to get -- are not the ones responsible for your low pay and bad working conditions.

I worked a 12 hour day without time to eat! Yes, other people besides nurses have high stress jobs. As I came home my two year old started projectile vomiting with green stuff coming out her nose! Next I waited an hour at the Childrens Hospital Oakland ER with no sign of any help or evaluation! My daughter spewing green stuff out her nose onto the floor in front of the nurses desk made no impression! I left Oakland drove the kid to John Muir ER in Walnut Creek! They were great. I watched her stop spewing vomit for the first time in three hours as they put a dose of phenergan in her vein. They admitted us to the pediatric ward. I got a few hours sleep on the floor next to her bed. Now 24 hours without food Im getting a little hungry. The kid is happy now. She is spinning around in circles trying to pull the IV out of her arm. The nurses do nothing to stop this. I ask them to take the IV out and they say nothing. They dont refuse or explain they just look at me and walk away. I have had no food for 30 hours! Excuse me I should know to EAT BEFORE I COME HERE! Or maybe I just have bad habits cause IM A MENTAL CASE!! MAYBE I USED MY WELFARE CHECK TO BY BOOZE AND CIGARETTES! If you really feel this way about your patients you need to find another line of work.

For all the women that report better behaviour with Men around. Guess what? In work places that are mostly male, the guys behave much better if there are women around. Its good to be different:rotfl:

Sorry but as a guy, I have to think that women have been fooled into putting up with way more crap than men will. Cheer up, in San Francisco right now nursing salaries are going way up. Unfortunately some of the ladies on this site have really beat me up for taking notice of the salaries and job security. It seems the only valid reason for me to go into nursing is to save the world. If I'm choosing a field based on pay and opportunities I should go else where. Trust me, you would not get this attitude from a bunch of MDs.

They are usually pretty nice about volunteering to work Christmas. Then make sure they get their holdiays off. Moslems could help too :)

here is the down side of it for you nurses that don't understand: no overtime no union. no regular hours. the it profession is totally unregulated. this means workers have no protections from management abuse at all. we are regularly on call seven days a week 24 four hours a day. even mds can not be worked this hard! when managers plan badly it is standard practice to put the it staff on 60 hour work weeks till they catch up. no future smart, educated it workers are available in india for about 10k per year. anyone in the it industry that does not do management or sales will be out of work soon. pay nursing pay is going up-up-up. don't know about jersey but rn pay here is easily $30 to $40 per hour. the east coast is sure to follow. it workers are taking 40k salaries cause we're so desperate. desk job i am kind of intimidated by the idea of working on my feet for 12 hour shifts but desk jobs take their toll as well. ever spent 12 hours at a computer terminal. try doing this every day for ever. anyone that does not get regular exercise on their own time really suffers. summary i know its hard when people jump into your profession because its "hot". this happened to it during the dot com boom. anyone that could spell html was a web designer for a while. at least nurses need a license. hope i can milk enough money from it to pay for nursing school. thanks for listening
