the first semester is totally doable with work. Almost everyone in my program worked the entire time throughout the entire program. I worked full time and still picked up extra shifts here and there, so you will be fine. The school leaves it to you to find your own clinical sites, but they have a huge list of places(broken down by each state) that are already approved to have students and have had them in the past, so you will probably be able to set them up pretty easy.

What's funny is my friend and I both graduated from Wayland. I graduated like three years ago, and he graduated like 6 months ago. We were both in the online classroom portion. We did clinicals on campus, but all our didactic was online. It was so funny, because they always were blaming the online group for their low nclex pass rate, but the pass rate from mine and his class was 100%. There were only like 10 or so in each of the online groups, and we all nailed it. They have some issues with their on campus program. I would check other places.

What part fo Idaho? I am from Twin Falls and I graduate from Samford's FNP frogram in may. IT is a great program and the teachers are awesome. Plus they actually have a lot of clinical sites already set up in idaho. Good luck

I love Nursing. I graduated in october and took the NCLEX. I am currently enrolled in an FNP program and I am working on night a week in the ED. I still practice as a chiropractor and make good money, but the better thing is since i have started working in the ED, I am getting referrals from them for back pain and headaches. Plus one of the Docs now knows I am a pretty competent guy and sent me two PI cases this week with the films in hand from the hospital. It is going well and I have only been there since the beginng of december

once you are accepted you start the nursing classes, but you have to finish your other classes as well. You have 3 or 4 semesters to finish all your lacking prereq's or they won't let you go on till they are done. I just did them at the same time and yes I worked full time it just provided for some late nights.

All my sciences were done. They said i needed another history class, another english, poly science, and religion.... I used i think speedyprep.com for test prep. I am deciding between UAB or SLU for the FNP. Samford was screwy when we were talking with them so we don't trust them. Plus they are changing the program and making it longer.

I had 27 credits of prereqs left to do when I started (don't get me started on that crap) but I clepped out of a lot of them and squeezed them in along the way.

All my rotations were in san antonio.

graduate from waylands BSN program this weekend. The program was okay. The travel sucked, and the program wasn't cheap, but me and the other guys in the program start our FNP courses in january. So things are looking good. Another 18-20months then we are nurse practitioners.

What are your feelings with regards to how the program is run. Is it pretty straightforward with regards to the stuff you study is the stuff you are tested on? Is it more tests or papers and assignments? I am applying for next year and would like some info... Have you found the staff and instructors helpful or do they take forever to acknowledge you exist?

a 160K for a chiro degree is ridiculous. I love helping people, but it isn't worth that much. I have a big practice and i consulted for a practice management company for years, but i got i arguments all the time about the state of our profession. IT isn't the dawning of a new day in wellness care. It is the end of the line. The schools are robbing us blind and leaving us with a degree that is insanley tough to market. I truely think that in ten years chiropractic will be a branch of physical therapy. PT's will start adjusting, then they will already have thebuilt in network of referrals and off they go... I love the nursing program, and I would love to have a CRNA program close enough, but I love the Np's i have shadowwed and it is a little more rewarding.

ther program is very doable. I worked full time and did some part time consulting on the side the first couple semesters and Still got it done. It is hard at the beginning if you have a lot of prerequisites to do. I had 24. Most people have a lot to do, because they require religion, and extra english, and more government and history than most bachelors programs required. I cleped out of a lot of them. So look at that option. As far as the clinicals. The first semster clinicals are a joke because you are at a nursing home, and you are feeding people and wiping butts. After that I have been in the ICU and med/surg ,ED rotations. I got a lot of experience and knowledge in those. It depends on what you put in it.

How long had your husband been in practice before starting MAL's program? Also I assume he doesn't practice anymore, but he is working, so how does Samford fit with his work schedule? My cohort will start at samford next year so we are curious. What is the course load like and so on. How does it compare to the BSN while working in terms of time comittment? Are the classes more read and test, or are there a lot of papers? I assume with the preceptorship there is a lot of focus on the clinical hours, but is it more of a clinical focus with checklist of things to do and see, or does your husband just sit back follow and take notes... just wondering?

Wayland Baptists program is the only online second degree bsn program in the nation, but you still have to go down there once a month for a 3-4day clinical rotation. You don't need the RN first, but there is some definate pros/cons with doing it that way. It is cheaper to do it at home at a community college if you can.

most of the people in my class all still have busy practices. Some people do this program because they are new grads or don't have busy practices and are struggling, but all the ones i have worked with in the program, we all have busy practices. There is one guy who is doing it because he is sick of paying an NP to work in his office. None of us are looking for RN jobs. In some ways i am glad i waited until the switch to Wayland, because the clinicals are organized, but i am upset about the increase then the decrease in price. AS always our warning is get everything in writing from MAL. If they say they are going to have clinicals in a certain place, get it in writing. Otherwise it is he said she said. The religion courses and extra gen eds are Waylands requirements not MAL. SO gen eds you can do at BYU online, but the religion courses have to be done from a Baptist school so it is easier to just do those ones through Wayland.

Excelsior doesn't work with chiropractors anymore. you have to at least have an LVN degree and it is actually more of a hassle. My buddy did, Hardins simmons and he said it was a pain with clinicals. WBU has all our clinicals scheduled out for the entire two years so that is nice. If you have questions shoot me a message

i got a cashiers check this morning.:) No. i still think mid america raped me, but i like the instructors i have at wayland. I would tell everyone though to get their generals done at a community college or somewhere else. BYU offers gen ed english, history and goverment courses for four hundred dollars for three credits instead of the 800 dollars that wayland charges. THey screw us with all the extra general ed courses.

The classes are fine and the instructors are good. I am ****** because they just dropped the price, but since i am already in the program, i still had to pay the old price and can't get a refund at the lesser amount. (MAL's policy not a WBU thing) I go to texas one weekend a month. Depending on the semester it is either a friday saturday sunday, or thursday afternoon-sunday afternoon. It aint bad and i split the room cost with someone from my class. If you really want shoot me your e-mail and i will send you a copy of the clinical schedule for the two years. The nice thing is they have it planned out a long time in advance so you can plan accordingly. You can't do the clinicals in your home state. You have to be supervised. You can for your FNP, but not for a bachelors.

Some people in my group (the first group to enroll at WBU) were mad because they were told it would be in dallas. I was never told that. I was always under the assumption it would be in San Antonio. I get the feeling that the dean of the program doesn't like us, but every clinical instructor we have been with has been great and taught us a lot. You need to make sure and seperate the education from the politics of the school and the MAL program. I feel the teachers honestly care. The rest not so much. If you are new and haven't enrolled well good for you because they just dropped the cost like ten grand, but it really ****** me off. It's like buying the iPhone the week before they dropped the price. The fact of the matter though is at the end i will have my BSN and can go from there. There is still no way i could have done this at a traditional program and kept my practice running. The only other online option i have seen is the BSN preliscensure through Western Governor's but i haven't heard much about or from them. ANyone know about them?

Here is the crappy thing. So Since the program switched to WBU from Hardin Simmons, it increased in length by about three months (from 18 to 21) and more Gen ED's were required by wayland baptist. The price also increased to 45K. Well I understood that going in and went ahead. Now i guess they are only averaging about 8-9 people per semester as opposed to the 50 they had at hardin simmons. So they just cut the cost by ten grand to 35 thousand and you can pay that per semester. I had to pay 45K up front at once. When I called them on this crap they basically brushed me off and gave me the it sucks to be you vibe. (legal disclaimer: this is my opinion). Wayland has no control over it, they contract with MID America learning for a fee, but i feel like i just got raped. Just make sure everything is in writing. Those bastards screwed me.

They let you pay per semester, The program is fine, but just like chiropractic school you have hoops to jump through. THe FAQ page never said the program would be in dallas. (never, i have been with MAL since before the switch to WBU from Hardin simmons. I am in the first class and it never said that). The teachers have been great. THey realize we know a lot (dont think you know it all, because chiropractic school didn't teach you a lot compared to this) and the instructors have given us a lot of slack. They cut out a lot of busy work. I think the program has been everything I was promised and things are going well.

I'm in the first cohort of DC's that are working on their BSN degree at WBU. We still have a year to go. So far things are fine (it is a great group of guys in my cohort). They (mid america and WBU) are trying to get some of the kinks worked out, but it isn't too bad in terms of study time (my wife isn't threatening to leave me, but i do have less free time). The thing that isn't great is travel. I live in idaho so i have to fly to texas once a month, so that can add up, but this is the only program where I can do the clinicals and didactic portion with out destroying my chiropractic practice. I see a lot of people saying to just do it at the community college. That is okay if it is a night course, but my local college only offers day time classes and almost entire day long clinicals. Every semester i would be completely changing my hours and that would only kill my practice. The Mid america option is good if you have a good practice you want to maintain. If you have a small practice then it is cheaper to go through a local RN program, but you will also probably only have your RN and not your BSN. I hope that answers some questions.
