  1. Wow!! I'm not trying to upset anyone!! As you know, there are other things you can do with a nursing liscense that dont require patient care! ??
  2. thats all true, but its not all bad for everyone. If youre getting into it for the right reasons, youre good to go. You have to have a drive for nursing, and love people.
  3. Is that what you think? With all due respect for how difficult I'm sure your job is, I dare you to do mine for one night while following my company protocol!! We have nurses being fired daily for not or not being capable of doing so.
  4. Im an x-hairstylist, now nurse. I'm gonna tend to go with the one who is guessing that shes hiding a growth or cyst of some kind under the mess!! She probobly doesnt wash it to allow it to keep tangling to better hide something underneath!! ugh!!! Technical dreadlocks are what they wear in Jamaica. They're not one big hunk of hair. Wow, glad I wasn't there!!
  5. Could it possibly be your frame of mind & not your specialty? I'm an LPN in a LTC facility in a dementia/psych unit which I never envisioned myself doing!! I pictured myself in an ER because I can have a very hyper personality & need to be moving ALL the time. With the poor economy, this is where I found myself. I got into nursing to help others, and I LOVE my job because thats what I do. My residents are essentially helpless! They light up when I get to work because they know I care. I'm constantly moving, chasing alarms, etc... LOL!!! I believe if any of us look at our jobs in the right light, we can make it something that maybe another nurse with the wrong attitude couldn't!! Think about it!!
  6. I agree completely!! Place the foley with the tampon. Give it a go! If it doesn't work out, maxi, it is!! Where's her foley been all this time?
  7. I'm so sorry to hear that you're struggling with work like that!! I'm an LPN in a dementia/psych unit, and I have 24 residents so I can relate for sure! How I overcame the issues your dealing with is by following advice from my nursing instructors. I've been licensed for 10 months & most of my employees think I've been licensed for years! What they dont know wont hurt them!! LOL!! They explained that everything they were teaching me is the absolute "right & perfectly correct", "by the book" way to proceed as a nurse. They also explained that in real life, if you function that way all of the time, you wont be able to complete all of your work. They told us to use nursing judgement & prioritize. For example, I multi-task all shift, along with a few other short cuts I use while still maintaining paitient safety. I hope this helps a little, Oh, and self help nursing books!!
  8. I work at a LTC facility in a dementia/psych unit. I pass meds, do TX's, assess pt's, labs, call docs, organize & manage STNA's, & do TONS of paperwork!!! If I have a fall (god forbid!), a quarterly, an admit, or a resident who needs sent out to ER, my night can go straight to HE double hockey sticks!!! I love my job tho! Very rewarding!
