ques. about the NLN exam
best of luck to you and everyone who is taking it. it was much harder then what i had expected too. there were so many parts to it that has nothing to do with nursing; the anatomy of a flower, physics, thermodynamics, ecology. i would suggest getting the study books, read them all through and practice, practice. best of luck!

Is my GPA to low for Darton College Nursing Program
That stinks that they won't give you an idea. Perhaps talk to the students who are in the program now and what their GPA and score was. Or you can talk to admissions and see if they would know too. Good luck.

A year from now...
That is so exciting and fun. I had my first lab skill on Wednesday and we had to wear our uniform to school and I felt so proud to be wearing it, I know it's corny but you work so hard to get to that point. I remember when I first had seen the students wear them and I walked by in envy. Hang in there and you will get your turn :)

How do you deal with the stress?
My school was the same pure GPA and a NLN extrance exam score. I would suggest talking with the professor to see what you are missing or not getting. Also, seek if there is any tutoring on campus, form a study group. In A&P flashcards helped me a ton. And practice, practice and turn everything into the subject that you are learning (ie. when your husband touches you think of the medical term for that part) or go to google.com and search for videos or look through books at the bookstore. Just hang in there and take one exam at a time. ~Melissa

Overwhelmed
Thank you for the encouragement and support. It's a whole new adventure and I am trying to do my very best. I will just keep pluggin away and hope that soon it will click. I have formed a study group (four of us) to meet atleast once a week. I am going to sit down with my professor on Monday to see if he has any suggestions and ideas. ~Melissa

Critical Thinking Skills
I too feel your pain. On my first theory exam I didn't do well (I passed but not my usual scores). It almost feels like starting all over again, figuring out how to take tests. My professor emailed me and said that he wants to meet with anyone who scored below 80% on the exam (I scored 77%). I am going to go check out that book tomorrow at B&N. Someone else suggested Fundamental Success book. I don't know if that would help you or not. Good luck and hang in there! ~Melissa

Overwhelmed
Thank you for your reply. Right now we are reading 4 books at once and anywhere from 1-8 chapters are required a week of reading. It's Fluid and Electrolytes, Fundamentals of Nursing, Diagnoses, Prioritized Interventions and Rationales, and Application of Nursing Process and Nursing Diagnosis. I do have a Saunders NCLEX review book, but haven't used it yet. I am just having troubles with the theory aspect of it. It's so different from all the prereq's. I might go talk to my advisor too. I was always dreaming of being here and now that I am I'm stressed out beyond belief.

How do you deal with the stress?
I am sorry that you are feeling that way. I can really relate, I was in the exact same boat. I was getting physically sick and having problems with my husband because of the high levels of stress. I know that it's easier said then done, but just try to relax. You did the best that you could do on the finals and exams. One thing that really helped me get through all the semesters is take one at a time. Just get through this semester and not worry about what is next. Also, apply to many schools even if it's a lower quality one, more expensive one etc. I applied to many of them of hoping that I would get accepted into one of them. I prayed and prayed. I was wait listed on my forsure back up plan (1st letter that I received) and then my first choice one I was accepted. So just do your best, and that is all that you can do. Go take a nice walk with you partner and explain all your anxiety, stress, pressure etc. Best of luck!

Overwhelmed
i just started an adn program 3 weeks ago and i feel so overwhelmed and i don't know if i have the brains to get through the program. i am curious if others felt this way and how did you overcome it? i did all the prereq's, earned my associate of art degree with high honors, the nursing school i was accepted in had over 200 applicants and only 80 seats; so it was very competitive to get in. i have always wanted to be a nurse; i have done pca, hha, cna work for years and loved it but wanted more. i feel like i am over my head and fear for the rest of the program. i am asking if others felt this way and how you dealt with it. all i do is study, read, and practice skills and i am just passing. thank you for reading this. ~melissa
