  1. I applied to 6/7 different nursing programs and I didn't get in. - SFSU, USF, CCSF, SDSU, SONOMA STATE, SJSU, and pending CSUEB. What should I do now that it's my 3rd year of undergraduate school? My overall GPA is 3.2 low compared to the school's averages and here are my prerequisite stats. Anatomy: B Physio: B Stats: B Eng: Ap Credit (will take this summer) Psych: Ap Credit (will take this summer) Critical Thinking: B Micro: A Nutrition: A- Develop. Psych: A Soc: A Gen Chem: C+ and B Bio/O Chem: A Science Avg GPA: 3.15 (no retakes) TEAS: 92.7 Supplemental: Volunteered 200+ hours, nutrition summer internship, student club member Any suggestions on how to improve my score or tips on strengthening my application? I am just feeling very sad but need encouragement. I would like to get into a BSN program in California, but realistically I'm not sure I have a competitive GPA. Thank you for taking the time to read. I wonder if anyone else is in the same boat.
  2. Aw I didn't get in I guess better luck next time!
  3. Am I the only one just hearing about this?! Effective no later than fall 2014, admission to CSU baccalaureate nursing degree programs (pre-licensure and post-licensure), associate-to-master's nursing degree programs, and entry-level master's nursing degree programs shall require successful completion of the following eight systemwide nursing program prerequisites. No campus may require more, fewer, or different program prerequisites than those included on this list; and there shall be no prerequisites to these eight nursing program prerequisites. The order in which these eight nursing program prerequisites courses are taken may be subject to campus discretion. The chancellor in consultation with the Academic Senate of the California State University may amend the standardized prerequisites for nursing degree programs (Education Code section 66055.5). http://www.calstate.edu/eo/EO-1084.html
  4. Yeah I was bummed to hear late May too!
  5. I currently attend CSUEB as a pre-nursing student and I talked to someone from the Nursing Department. Lara told me that they received over 917 applications this year and we will not know until late May. CSUEB might be one of the last to notify us of our admission. I hope this helps!
  6. Is it worth it to retake my english composition class if I only have a 3 on my ap test. Do I need it for nursing? Ive already taken my argumentation english class and a public speaking class.
  7. Does anatomy and physiology have to be taken at the same school? I am trying to transfer from Cal Poly SLO, which does not have a nursing program to San Jose State as a pre-nursing major. Does anyone have any recommended order of classes I should take for the next 2 quarters I have at Cal Poly as I wait to transfer to a school with nursing. Winter General Chemistry 2 Developmental Psychology Nutrition GE (maybe) Spring General Chemistry 3 Philosophy GE (critical thinking) Anthropology GE Summer Anatomy at a city college Then, I will have physiology, and microbiology for the next year. Is there a way I could knock those out as soon as possible or am I rushing it if I try to take them all at once. I have ap credit in english and psychology. Do you recommend retaking psychology or is it fine because I have a score of 3 in english and 4 in psychology?
  8. During this summer I realized that I have a very strong interest in nursing however I am enrolled in a college that does not offer a Nursing Program. I am currently at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. It is going to be my second year as a Biological Science major student and I would ideally want a bachelors degree in nursing from a california state university or uc. Do you think I am at a disadvantage taking classes from my school than at a community college that does have a nursing program? Do you think it is worth it to transfer to another csu because I cannot transfer now as a lower division transfer student. Also, I am afraid that I won't be able to transfer to another csu because my overall college GPA is a 2.3 from taking difficult science and math classes. I wondered if anyone has gone through a similar experience and how you dealt with it. Any advice would be appreciated!
  9. I wanted to ask if anyone knew which community colleges with a nursing program is not impacted? Also could you recommend some community colleges that has good nursing program pre-reqs? I am currently enrolled in a non-nursing school csu and would like to find a college that offers the nursing school pre-reqs that helps me transfer to a nursing school.
  10. I have a big dilemma and would appreciate hearing other opinions. I just finished my first year trying to figure out what I enjoy at Cal Poly State University. I took a lot of random classes but mostly science based. At Cal Poly, we are the only school that is required to declare a major before entering. So I put down Biology not knowing what to expect. I realized I did not want to learn about plants and animals and wanted to work closely with people. After my first year my cummulative GPA is a 2.3 which I am very disappointed about. I know I have a lot of hard work ahead of me but I really want to pursue a BSN in nursing. I really want to transfer to another CSU but I do not know of any schools accepting lower division transfer students. Then I considered going to a community college but I feel like I'm at a disadvantage transferring because I have a lower GPA that would meet any nursing program requirement. Should I go back to Cal Poly to retake some classes in the Fall quarter? Do you think there is an advantage of me transferring from a CSU to another CSU or from a community college with the pre-reqs to a CSU school. Do you have any recommended pathways? Please Help!
  11. Thank you for sharing your stories or your words of wisdom. I truly appreciate you guys taking the time to answer my question. I feel very inspired
  12. I'm heading off to college soon and I still can't decide on a career. I am very curious about becoming a nurse and was wondering anyone could give me advice or tell me their story of why they became a nurse. I'm not sure what type of nursing I am interested in yet ..
