  1. Hi! I have worked in Grady ER since I graduated from school. So two years now. I was in the Residency program, which has been shortened to 4 months from 6 when I was in. As an experienced RN (which we are hiring right now) you would probably have 6 weeks orientation with a preceptor. I started at $22.50 with benis. I am not sure exactly what the pay is for no benis, perhaps 4 dollars more. Weekend dif is $3.00 per hour. Night shift is something like $2.50 per hour. I have finally received a small raise. I always have enough PTO. You can expect to have a 5:1 pt ratio. Expect more if you are in the 6 seat plus two bed asthma room, the 7 bed 24 hour obs room, the 8 bed detention room (inmates and those who find themselves in custody) or the 7 room fast track clinic where we see level 4 pts. Or a few less. If you are a trauma nurse you will have two pts at a time. If you are in Behavioral Obs (psych room) you would have 4 plus two others. In the critical care rooms you would have 4 pts at a time. We rotate through all the zones and depending on experience or performance, (no requests usually) will dictate your assignment for the shift. Before I started here, a friend of mine said Grady is like the mission field. You see everything. You do everything. ETOH, burns, major trauma, maggots, folks covered with vanilla pudding, triple A's, hyper/hypothermia, A lines, CVPs, Morgan's lenses, sexual assault, decontamination, abuse (of self, drugs and the nurses) My job is exciting! You get a chance to love the unlovable. To run in when others are running out. I love GRADY. They say once you work at GRADY you can work anywhere. There is much opportunity for learning as well as autonomy (since you are working with DOClings aka residents.) I have never worked anywhere else so my opinion may be limited. But I highly recommend a visit. Talita Shaw is the one you want to speak with. main Grady number is 404-616-1000. Good luck.
