Hello,Its been a while since Ive posted.I joined in 2004.And I love this site.Reading other nurses questions and concerns have helped me feel better when I become discouraged or lose confidence.Thank you all.Im still doing Home care.Been with the same company for 2 years.Plan on staying with them through nursing school for my RN.My question or concern is I have been awarded nurse of the year.Which makes me feel very good. But I know a nurse who has been with this company 10+ years.Works full time and has a family.I asked this nurse if she ever was awarded nurse of the year after she congradulated me and she said no.And I felt bad.She told me that I always fill in when they are in a bind. And that they dont know what they would do without me.Made me feel good.I told her she should have it though.Any comments is greatly appreciated. Know your limit and play within it.

:) Thank you again for the wonderful advice. Its been a while since Ive visited.Ive been working for a home care agency since nov 04.I really enjoy homecare I really think Its where I belong.I dont like working 8&12 hr shifts.I have children & too much housework to keep up with.I dont know for some reason its easier for me to work a few hours in the morning & a few hours in the evening than a straight 8 hr day.In home care I can tend to my family responsibilities easier between cases without getting tired. The only thing I dont like about this agency is that I take care of disableled individuals only & I dont use a lot of nursing skills except foley residuals. Im afraid that If go to another agency I will ruin a good thing or I will be rejected for not having enough med surg exp.I have 1 year of skilled and am very good at feeding tubes, insulins. But I miss the feeding tubes, wondcare etc.I like the hands on stuff,I dont care for paperwork or lg pt load.I like to give quality care. Thanks for listening & hope to here from someone.Spring is here yeah:coollook:

Med-Surg Topic of the Week .... Nurse to Patient Ratios
Hello:) Ive been an lpn for 1 year and currently doing assisted/long term.I want med/surge experience but Im afraid.Afraid of being treated like an aide"respect aide work did it for 10 years"But dont want to do all day in a hospital.I dont know if I want to be an RN,"cant afford it right now"I dont want paperwork.I love working with my hands and enjoy patient contact.I know I know nothing about med surge but 7-9 pts is a lot easier than 20-40 in long term.please fill me in and possibly help me decide how to find the right hospital.Interested in homecare & teaching in future. sincerely julie

lpn/rn in homecare
I recently graduated from lpn school in january 2004:) and have been working in long term. And I also have been doing homecare taking care of disabled people.Im not enjoying long term as much as I thought I would.I love the nursing part of it.But not the working environment.I was an aide in assisted living when I was in school and I really enjoyed it.I think I want to do that part time and do home care part time.My real question is: Whats the job & pay difference between an lpn & rn in home care? Im really interested in doing visits involving treatments, dressing changes & simple proceedures. The thought of working in a hostpital scares me:uhoh21: and I would probably get eaten alive.Speed is a weakness of mine, and I really like the home environment.Any info is greatly appreciated.
