  1. As a newer grad, and belive me you are, until you get a few more years under your belt, why would you consider this "opportunity" to be over that many LVN"S and be responsible for that many patients? Not to mention the paperwork. I'd make a counter offer for $30/hr. and 40 hr week.(as a pvt. case mgr. I made $65/hr. plus expenses) You will likely work 60-80 hrs. a week with that much responsibility. I'd also require not a gas allowance, but billing PER mile plus travel time paid. I'm unsure of the going rate but you can ask an accountant. Honestly, get more experience in hands on nursing before you accept this type position.
  2. As an older nurse who has walked a lot of halls, I do recommend good shoes. I have had back and hip surgeries and can assure you that my years of nursing was a big part of the need for surgery. Your back and other body parts will thank you in the long run. Crocks offer no support at all.
  3. As an older RN, BSN is required for hire has been threatened since 1964, when I graduated. I see it has now arrived. The BSN is required for any of the military services and by many larger (magnet) hospitals, as well as many non-clinical positions outside hospitals. I would urge you to seek your BSN because only the "grandfathered" RN's who are very experienced, are being hired for any position other than small town, rural hospitals.
  4. Hi, I felt the need to respond: The Air Force certainly does have specialty areas for nurses and I was a Flight Nurse during Nam. I was in the Air National Guard and we were fortunate to be able to have active duty with Regular Air Force nurses. We transported wounded and traumatized fellows back to the states where other Air Force nurses transported the wounded, etc, to facilities best able to treat them and closest to their home. Check it out. As far a "waiting 5 years" : wouldn't you expect that there is a reason for this? If you already feel intimidated with "comparing" I can assure you that when you get in the real world you will learn that nothing can make up for experience and you will certainly begin to understand all that you have to learn and that time taken to do this and mature will be of great service to you and your patients. I do wish you great luck in your career choice . Dotti ------------------ iodine
