I'm sure there are. I live in NY. We only have one car, but car insurance is expensive here. When my child turns 4 she will be eligible for pre school which is free. So this knocks out one expense.

LOL...I am certainly willing and able. I've been contemplating this for years. I'm currently taking pre reqs. I'm going to apply for both accelerated BSN and ADN programs for 2011 school year. God's will, everything will be fine.

How do you make this work with working and going to school? I am a mom and a wife. Do you have support or help? I am currently and engineer and not sure if I should do an adn or a bsn. I certainly don't want to be in school forever. I'd like to kick off my nursing degree ASAP.

Thanks guys. Leenak I get what you mean, but kids are more expensive than pets. With a car not and car insurance in NY as well as daycare, saving is doable but not enough. I had no intention of working. My husband's salary can't cover all the expenses. I thought about doing an ADN, but it would take much longer.

Hi all, I currently hold a BS in Civil Engineering. While it pays good money, it isn't rewarding. I am wondering if anyone has made the career switch doing an accelerated BSN? Did you have children and a spouse? How did you make finances work? We live in NY where everything is extremely expensive. I've though about relocating in order to do this program but not sure if that is financially wise. I also contemplated taking about loans to cover my monthly expenses. Any advice is appreciated. Oh my goodness!!!! It is such a relief to finally find someone that has already done this. I have a BS in Civil Engineering. I got into this because of the money and not wanting to spend years in medical school. When I was in my second yr of college I was about to transfer and my mom told me to stay where I was because everyone is a nurse. I regret that decision everyday of my life. I have been in engineering for 4 years now and I have a baby. Living in NY makes it impossible to quit working and go to school. I wanted to do the accelerated BSN program. I've thought about relocating to another state to do the program. I am currently taking my last 4 pre requisites. I'll be done by next May. I hate my career with a passion. I am a people person. I feel confined by this cubicle. I know nursing school entails alot of work and stress but I'm so ready. I feel that is where God wants me to be. Thanks for the advice!!!!

Thanks RN. Everyone asks me the same thing about engineering. I don't care about perks anymore. I really dislike it. I got into it for the money and I regret it. I wanted to be in the medical profession since I was 10 years old and 16 years later I still yearn for the same thing. I really want to be where my passion lies.

LOL....wow. That's sooo difficult. Well the Accelerated BSN is 12-18 months depending on the school. The ASN is 24 months. I didn't want to do a 2 year but I'm willing to do what ever is necessary to keep everyone comfortable and still do what I need to do. We are planning a move next year which would be around the time of starting the program.

Hi all, I'm new to this site. I am currently an Engineer. I am taking online pre-reqs and should be done in May. I currently live in NY but am thinking of relocating to GA. I also have a husband and 3 year old daughter. My big puzzling dilemma is how can I make ends meet while being in an accelerated bsn program or should I resort to doing an associates for right now? I thought about using loans to cover expenses for the year that i'm out but I'm nervous about the debt. Any advice is appreciated.
