What's it like? Please tell me what your day is like? What are your responsibilities? How are you treated by your client and their family? Do they expect you to do work outside of your job responsibilites...like dishes, laundry, etc. Do you see several clients in one day or do you care for one? What should I look for in an agency? Please give details of the worst case scenario of home health...and the best! :) I will be certified soon and I am trying to decide what avenue to take other than LTC. Thank you so much!

For those in the program I need advice I have to take three classes over again and earn at least a "B" in them in order to have a shot at getting into the program. Two of them (Psych101 and West. Civ) I am not worried about. I will be fine. I am completely stressed about the third...Quantitative/Reasoning Math. I bombed college Algebra, so Advisor said that I may take Quant.Reasoning Math instead. My weakness is Algebra/Statistical kind of Math...hence my low gpa to begin with! I need opinions. I have to have at least (meaning least) a 2.5 to get into the program. Avg acceptance is 2.7-2.8ish. I am scared in taking the Math class along with the other two. I really need to solely focus on Math alone to get a decent grade. IF I take the two ok classes my gpa will be nearly 2.8. Should I just leave the Math class alone? Will having a D in Math 101 make me look undesirableif my gpa is ok? My advisor stressed how impt Math is in nursing. Which I am fine with...as long as it isn't ALGEBRA! :) My advisor this is the order they consider applicants...Teas, gpa, pre reqs

What was your first day like as a cna? Did you shadow someone? Or did you take it by storm? How did your coworkers or other cna's make you feel? In home health care, are you immediately assigned patients to care for w/o assistance?

What are Pharm classes like? Is it super tough? What do you find the hardest about the class...and what's the easiest? I have math phobia. But it is geared mainly toward statistical math or college algebra. I am kudos with basic old math.

I am interested in the ADN program at Coastal College. I have heard it is super competitive to get accepted. I spoke with an advisor and she said gpa and teas are crucial at getting into the program. But still no guarantee. I have spoken with students that say that there gpa wasn't good, but their teas score was in the 80's and they got in. I have also heard that some applicants had great gpa's ... but didn't make the cut. Math is a weakness of mine. College Alg really. She said my Math grades stink. And worries that I will do poorly in nursing school. That there are math tests given monthly and you have to pass them with flying colors. I am hoping the tests are more drug calculated/conversion oriented and NOT alg. So tell me. What is it really like? I will be a single mom entering the program if I get accepted.

Honestly, how hard is it to be a nursing student and a single mom? When I enter the ASN program, my kids will 4 and 6yrs old. What can I expect? And how are you handling it all? I am scared to death. I will be working part time as a CNA as well. whew.

The American Red Cross is a great start. I stopped teaching 5yrs ago to be a sahm so I completely understand how isolating it can be. Since the kids entered school this year, I have decided to embark on a new career next fall...Nursing. While looking into CNA training I stumbled upon the Red Cross. I thought volunteering might be a great way to do what I love (helping others) and meeting new faces. You can choose specific areas of volunteering that might interest you. And, with training courses you can get CPR/First Aid certified for free. I have decided to go through their 6wk CNA training. The Red Cross sponsors and assists with events that keeps you pretty busy. The truly need help...even if it is to just help work a tent handing out water and first aid kits for three hours. Amity House or any women's shelters are always looking for volunteers. You could volunteer to be a child advocate with CASA. Hospice is need of volunteers as well. There are just so many! Best of luck to you. It truly is a rewarding experience...you will also gain a new appreciation.

I bet there is NO way that I will get into an ASN next fall.I failed a statistics course this summer (although now I have found out that it isn't necessary to have) which brought my already terrible gpa of 2.1 down to a 1.9......... I have a BSed but just screwed up the first two years of school...in Math courses go figure. I was one of those I don't know what I want to do my life kind of kids so I didn't put my heart into school. The only things going for me are having a (1) BSEd (2) Pre reqs completed with As and Bs. (3) Being a CNA. (4) I'm almost 40 There is only one college for an ASN in my area so it is very competitive to get in. They require a 2.5 overall. And excellent TEAS scores. I haven't taken TEAS yet. Do you think I stand a chance if I retake a terrible class to bring my gpa up next semester!? The overall gpa is the only thing standing in my way. Thank you!

Does anyone have an experience with American Red Cross CNA training? It's a six week course for $600. Did you seem to find a job fairly easy after the course was over?
