FNP vs AGNP?
Thanks for the replies! :-) Anyone know about how to go about specializing as an additional certification? Such as in integrative medicine? Or is it just the provider you work for? Thanks!

FNP vs AGNP?
Hello everyone! I am currently approx. a year into a MSN-FNP program at Maryville University in St. Louis, Missouri. I am considering AGNP. How many of you are doing this route and why? With my program it is an extra 16-week semester for the FNP over AGNP. I do not necessarily have a desire to work with children; however, I am also not opposed to it. I figured that if I should want to open my own practice someday, that it would be better to be able to see all ages as opposed to just adults? I could see either working out...just hard to see ahead what the best route is. I'd love to work in a clinic setting, no ER or critical care for me :0) If I should decide to later specialize in an area, such as nutrition/alternative or integrative medicine, how could I go about doing so? Is it so many hours under and MD that works in that field? Would AGNP or FNP make a difference in what I could specialize in? Any information provided would be greatly appreciated! Shortly, I need to line up my clinicals and will need to know whether or not to include peds and women's health. Thank you!! :)

Day Shift Position
Thanks for all the information and replies! It gives me hope that it can be done regardless of the shift. My program is online and we set up our own clinicals the second year of the program. I would love to work days. I think it would even help starting this August with Master level courses. I understand new nurses have to put in time on nights sometimes. I just want to make everything as easy as possible on myself. Right now, even just working nights is blah to me. I love the atmosphere, people, etc. the bedside work is stressful, but I do enjoy it. It is just hard for me to adjust working all different days every week. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com

Switching from hospital nights to clinic days?
You are in the same situation as I! I have been a nurse for a year now, working 12 hours night shifts--which are different days each week. I have a very hard time adjusting and sleeping even though I am only 25. I am starting my MSN-FNP this August and have considered dayshift; however, in the hospital that I work in: I love the night shift atmosphere, but not the nights themselves! I feel that though I have days off...I am so out of whack to do anything almost. I have applied to a clinic position about 30 minutes from my house. It'd be M-F as well. I am going back and forth. It would be so much better on my health and I know that I would be much happier. I also realize that this would be the line of work and schedule that I would have anyway as an FNP. I really enjoy teaching and documentation. The plus side to the day shift is being home every night...and off every weekend. What do you think after reading my situation? Hope it may bring some light to yours. Let me know.

Day Shift Position
Thanks for the response. Glad you like being an NP...that's encouraging! I do enjoy nursing. I would really love being a NP. I will see if this clinic would be flexible with me second year...if not, there are clinics around that do weekends...we'll see lol. Do you work 4 or 5 days per week? Day Shift Position
It is an online program & clinicals are only second year in this program. It's challenging to know what to do! How do you like being a NP compared with RN?? I love nursing and am really excited about learning to become a NP!

Awful Doctors
Hugs to you! Keep your head up! There was no need for the MD to be that rude. I know it's easier said than done but these experiences will make you tough ;-) you sound like a very good and contentious nurse. Best wishes for the future. Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com

Day Shift Position
Hello there! I am an BSN RN with a BS in Business Administration and MBA credit set to start an FNP program this fall semester. I have been working as a charge nurse on night shift for almost a year now. Nights are killing me!! I took it bc it was the option open at the time in the area I live in. There are not any day shift positions open in the hospital I work in currently. I am thinking I'd like to work while in school. It's be great to do clinic work or home health work while I am in FNP school. The second year if my program will have clinical hours to complete as well. Any suggestions for what works best while in MSN-FNP school?? I think I will need to try to get days some where sometime bc night shift is über hard on me! I just hate to have to go somewhere else? But is that the norm after first year in nursing? Any info or suggestions will be greatly appreciated...thank you! Sent from my iPhone using allnurses.com

Maryville University FNP Program Fall 2013
Wow! Did you always know you wanted to go into advanced practice? If not, what made you decide on nurse practitioning? I became an RN to go into advanced practice. I enjoy the night time atmosphere, but my body does not like nights! haha...It just makes it hard on days off b/c I always feel exhausted. How long have you been on nights? Have you felt the same about your days off? Does it get better? Thanks...

Maryville University FNP Program Fall 2013
I work on a med-surg floor in a small hospital right now. I would like to get into a clinic type setting; however, as an RN in a small town, the clinics do not hire RNs, but LPNs mostly. I almost have a year of experience in. Have you watched Maryville's webinar to find out more about the program? I guess our clinical hours will start the second year of the program. Right now, I work night shift, but I am for SURE hoping for a day shift position by that time so that I can do clinicals and work and not be completely exhausted all the time. Do you work days or nights?
