  1. Hi did you end up finding a job after you got your BSN? I'm in a similar situation...I have a Bachelors in Biology and my ASN. But I graduated from nursing school in Florida. Now I'm living in West Chester and I cannot find a job. I'm wondering if I should keep trying or if I have to bite the bullet and go back to school for my BSN. How was the WCU program? Thanks!!
  2. Thanks for the info. I wish I had known how difficult it would be to find a job when deciding to go for my Associates or Bachelors. I just kept hearing that it doesn't matter, you are both still RNs, and a lot of employers will pay for you to get your Bachelors once they hire you. I just can't afford to go back to school. Bleh. I'll just keep trying to find hospitals that hire new grads with ASN...
  3. Does anyone know if Cooper hires new grads with an ASN or do you have to have a BSN? Or do you know any other hospitals that are known to hire new grads with an ASN. I'm not having any luck and wondering if its because I don't have my BSN. I have my ASN and a BS in Biology but I guess that doesn't help.
  4. Thank you for your replies and information. I'm just going to bite the bullet and do the best I can in finding a job. The only other problem I am finding is that it seems like I have to pick whether I will work in PA or NJ, but I have no idea where I will end up getting a job. I have to take the NCLEX but I'm not sure which state to get licensed in because if I end up getting a job in the other state, I heard its very expensive to get my license in the second state. Does anyone know the costs or how I can find that out? Or any experience in this since there must be a lot of students in that situation that are in Philadelphia.
  5. I am graduating this August 2012 in Florida with my Associates in Nursing. I also have a BS in Biology, in case that has any weight. I am moving back north to where I grew up and I'm wondering how the nursing job market is in the Philadelphia area. I am open to working in the city or right outside in either PA or NJ. I plan on living with my parents until I secure a job. I definitely want to volunteer. I am open to taking extra courses or certifications if that can help my resume and skills. I am also open to paid internships or externships. I am not 100% sure what department I want to work in. I am interested in Peds, Labor & Delivery, and OR but as a new grad, I am flexible. I've heard its really difficult in this area so I'm looking for any insight, tips, suggestions...anything! Thank you so much!!
  6. Ok, thanks! I will definitely go back and read it then. I didn't think it was any different but if you said it has more info then that's great. I already did the questions at the end. Ahhh so much to do! We have a crazy amount to read by Friday if anyone has checked that out yet
  7. Did anyone start to ready Perry/Potter Chapter 5 yet? I feel like it is exactly the same, word for word, as Fundamentals Chapter 32. I started reading a few pages and skimmed through the rest. Not sure if I want to use my time reading the same thing or work on something else. Also, has anyone tried to get into the Evolve website course that she gave us? Do we have to pay for those b/c it says its either $69 or we have to have an access code.
  8. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer all of our questions! I really appreciate it and wish you the best of luck in your last semester!
  9. Where did you guys hear that we can't have the flare leg scrub bottoms? My friend is in the program now and that's what she wears. She said they are just picky about the color matching the top exactly.
  10. $27 for all of those supplies! That's great, I'll have to check out a uniform store up here by me. I heard they are very picky about the shoes being all white so everyone make sure they are completely white before making that purchase.
  11. I'm confused about what to turn in also. I thought we had to give them our folder and binder - but yes, she was very adamant about us never to turn in orginals which is contridicting. I am scheduled with my doctor for the physcial next Monday which is the day before we have to turn in everything so I'm nervous waiting last minute. I really hope I can get everything done!
  12. Awesome! I'll check Amazon. I am also taking the online math course.
  13. I live in Lake Worth! We should carpool! I may be moving more south in mid January depending on how the commute is.
  14. She said that it would say you have registered at two different campuses because the hospitals that we use for the clinicals are not registered as on the campus. You should be fine as long as your courses are all at North.
  15. Did anyone complete their CEU's at Sheridan Technical Center? That's where I did mine a couple of months ago and I want to make sure everything I need was done with that class because she confused me and made it seem like there were some that didn't have enough hours. They split the classes and hours differently then BC does so its confusing.
  16. Yes, I prefer a physical book also. I just didn't know if that was something that they required. Some of my classes have books that come with cds that have extra things like practice quizes, games or other programs. Maybe I will email the teacher and see what she says. That way if it is something necessary, we don't end up buying the wrong thing and paying even more money!
  17. Hello! I will be starting North Campus in January too :-) I'm very excited!! When I looked at the pdf of the book package that the bookstore offers, a lot of the names of the book say with e-book after it. Do you know if that's something we definitely need? And if you order online through Amazon, if they have the e-books with the regular book? When I was looking on Amazon it didn't say anything about e-books...
  18. If you google Broward College North nursing the first website that comes up is their home page. It says Nursing Process Home Page. I think there is a book list on there plus a lot of other information. Hope this helps those who are going to North!
  19. How were her grades for the prereqs? I think that has more to do with your acceptance then your HESI scores. Its my understanding that for the HESI you have to reach a minimum score to be eligible but then your grades for your prereqs are what gets you in. She should try to go there and speak to someone if she had good grades too. Its hard to tell someone that you will get in if you just believe and its meant to be when you have done everything you can and other people are getting in. Good luck to her!
  20. Does anyone know if you have to have the books and the e-book? I'm looking to order online and it doesn't say if it comes with the e-books but I'm not sure if that even matters.
  21. Thank you for all of this information! It's so helpful to hear student's personal experiences. I had registered for the North campus when I applied so I guess I have to stick with that, but it sounds like a good choice anyway. Do you have any recommendations of what to brush up on or any kinds of books we can start reading that will be helpful for our first semester?
  22. Thank you so much, I appreciate it! Hope we can all get some good input on campuses and online vs face to face.
  23. I just found out (finally!) that I was accepted. My status changed and I received the orientation email! Yay I'm so happy and relieved. Not sure why it took so long but I don't care now :-) I was going to apply to the North campus but I'm also interested in the online program because I live in Lake Worth. I would also be interested if anyone has personal input about the pros and cons of going online vs face to face. Thank you!
  24. It has a green check mark next to my HESI showing that it was received. I definitely have to go in and talk to someone. I live in Lake Worth so its just about getting the time to go down there between work and school. I emailed the person that you get when you call health admissions but she has yet to reply to me.
  25. My culmative HESI score was a 90 and the lowest grade I got was an 85. I don't know what the problem could be! I even have a BS in Biology. I got all A's in my prereq's except one B. And I completed the Sheridan course for all of the certifications.
