Muslim Cultural Experiences in Clinical Setting
Maybe I should rephrase, are there any Muslim nurses out there who might incorporate their beliefs into healthcare practices here in the US. Or are their any nurses out there who have had the actual experience taking care of a Muslim woman in L&D or any other womens healthcare setting (specifically OB)? I know it is a broad topic, because there are different customs based on different regions. We were trying to focus on Egypt, but any imput would be appreciated! :wink2: Thanks!

Muslim Cultural Experiences in Clinical Setting
HI! Just wondering if anyone could share their experiences with Muslim women in the OB area. I am in nursing school doing my OB rotation , and my clinical group is going an analysis of Muslim women in the US. We are trying to fnd out first hand what their healthcare practices are that they still incorporate because of their culture. My father's side is Muslim from Egypt, but I figured for the sake of diversity, I would like to get other opinions. We have to touch on the following areas, if there is anything you could share I would appreciate it! *Fertility and Birth Control *Pregnancy *Labor and Delivery *Postpartum Care *Infant Care *Childrearing/parenting practices *Health Promotion of mothers and children *Effects of healthcare practices

Thank you, thats good to know. I hope I don't have to worry about that though if I get the opportunity to enroll in the program. I think I am so worried now, because of this teacher we have. It is just an 8 week course, but the teacher does not explain things well, and just leaves us on our own in the labs...then when she reviews for the exam (which isn't much) different things are on the test than what she said! So that, in combination with work is stressful, and I just want to do well in the class. Wow, you did good in A&P with missing 2 weeks! That must have been tough to do. I am glad to hear that they look at individual circumstances of the students!

Wow, thats a tough grading scale! What happens when people fail...they get dropped out of the program?! Can they ever get back in? No, I have not applied to the program yet but I am really nervous about applying. I want to do well in anatomy and physiology I, but the teacher we have is not helping much...she's new and I believe this is her first term teaching @ PCC. I am just scared that if I end up with a 'C' in the class and then apply in August for January, that they might not accept me. I am hoping that maybe if they see from my transcript that I already have a B.S. Degree that will have some influence, but I don't get the feeling it will. However, whenever I have spoken to the advisor...they don't make it sound like its difficult to get into the program. Everyone has a different story...I heard some students talking the other night in class and they were saying how you can take all of the classes in the nursing program (except Nursing I-V) before you ever get accepted! I don't think that is the case because if that was something that was allowed, the advisors would probably be promoting it. Thanks for the good luck! I will definately need it!

Thanks for the information. I have heard that they design the program to weed people out, but like you said if you manage your time well and keep on task things should be ok. As long as you keep your C average you can stay in the program right? Thanks & good luck with the rest of Nursing III :)

Help with Dosage Conversions ?
WOW! I get it now. Thank you so much! I think the lightbulb went off :)

Help with Dosage Conversions ?
Thank you for the correction, I should have posted this under concentrations! A&P is whipping my butt! LOL. I went for some tutoring yesterday...but I am hoping the light bulb will go off soon. I think the biggest 2 problems are the teacher not explaining how we are supposed to figure out our lab problems, and the class being only 8 weeks long! Time to go cram, thank you all for your help! I am sure I will be posting again soon.

Help with Dosage Conversions ?
So, let me clarify...does the 5% solution mean automatically that I would need 5 grams of glucose per 100cc (which is the same as 1mL)? Or did I miss something...?

Yes, that is true. I just mentioned A&P I becuase I already had my other classes completed from my B.S. Degree, and forgot about that they indeed need to be completed. Glad to hear there is no waiting list...some students were talking about that today in our tutoring session, and it almost did not sound promising to try and get in this January. Hopefully things will work out for the best. Do you know how they choose who will enter thr program? Is it just by grades? How far are you into the program if you don't mind me asking, Pilot Jim?

Help with Dosage Conversions ?
I am a student currently taking Anatomy and Physiology I to hopefully get accepted into nursing school. Bad news, is the teacher just assumes we know how to do converting and preparing solutions. When we ask her, then she decides to show us. Most teachers would at least explain how it is done before letting the class do the labs on their own. But anyway...Here is an example, we were supposed to prepare 50ml of 4.0% w/v glucose. After racking our brains we came up with 4g of glucose needed to prepare the solution. But my question is...is there a way that nurses figure this out that can be easier? Is there a set formula to use? It just doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone help before I loose my mind? :rotfl:

I am starting my pre-reqs now for the nursing program, and once you have A&P done you have to apply to the program. Check out www.polk.edu and you might find some answers there on the nursing depts homepage. :)
