Foley catheter question for my dad
Hello there, i was wondering if you all can explain through your urology experience how this will work out for my dad. My father had a lung surgery due to a collapsed lung and a foley catheter was place. They sent him home with a foley Catheter and couple days later asked him to go to the urology clinic to remove it. They removed it and sent him home and asked him to see if he can pee. He wasn't able to have a continuous flow, had dribbles and retained a lot of fluid due to not being able to pee and ended up in the hospital for lung infection. Again he has a Foley catheter and planning to remove it on Monday after staying 9 days in hospital. My question is how will he get out of the cycle of removing Catheter- if not able to pee. How will he gain his peeing ability's on his own after having a foley bag catheter for 9 days. What if on mondays appt he is not able to pee again. Thanks

Career Change and need SERIOUS help
Please Please work as a CNA first in a hospital setting before putting any more money into the classes. Lot of ppl go into nursing thinking of being gloriefied job but then end up quitting. Go for a businness degree and work in an office doing paperwork. I know I would have done it but don't want to waste any more money..

Refresher course without clinical hours...is it worth it?!
Hi all, I am currently doing a RN refrsher..finishing up the theory portion, then the skills (3 day-- travel to the univ) then 146 hours of clinical at a hospital of your choice plus aids/hiv course, cpr, immunizations..its pretty intense..After 12 years away from nursing, I only want to do public health..not sure if I want to be a staff nurse at a hospital...where are you guys plannign to work after a refresher..I feel home health might not work for me since I quit pretty early in my nursing career only 1 year..

Not sure if I am making the right decision?
Thank you so much for responding to my post. I keep asking myself I hope I am not making the mistake by not renewing but I guess I don't want to go through the stress that comes with the territory..You are right I really don't have the passion for it..If I had the passion, I know I am hard-worker and would have made it through..!! now I have search for posts about "What to do with a BSN"???

Not sure if I am making the right decision?
Yes it is for future job stability reasons and no I am not working currently. I have stayed home for the past 11 years raising kids and a stay home mom. My family thinks it might be good thing to pursue right now since my kids are in elementary school stage and I have some time to myself. They think even if I don't want to work as a nurse I should definitely have the license active as it will open more doors for me work wise in the non-patient care side. Not sure how realistic is that..

Not sure if I am making the right decision?
Hi all, Currently I am enrolled in an online RN refresher program after 11 years of nursing break. I let my license expire after working for 1 year as new grad. After a lot of pushing from my family and friends regarding renewing my RN license, I enrolled myself in the refresher. Being away for 11 years from the nursing environment, I feel like I am not into it anymore and have no desire to work in those conditions but everyone keep on telling me to just renew the license and you don't have to work as a nurse. Their intention is to "keep my license active" no matter if I want to work or not. Is this the right choice I am making? I keep on telling my family I am not into nursing anymore. I am scared of it..they say.."Just activate your license!!! What should I do?

Can you be a PHN if you are a new grad?
Can you be a PHN if you are a new grad? Do new grads get hired in the public health nursing or do you require 1 year of exp as a RN. I am RN BSN. Thanks for any input!!

Wondeirng whether to activate my license or not???
I am currently taking a refresher course. It has 4 parts.(Theory, Pharmacology, skills and clinical). I am doing the first one right now. I am thinking after I finish this course I DON'T want to work in a hospital or hospice or home health or LTC..spoiled brat right?? For some reason after being away for nursing for 13 years with 1 year of peds LTC experience, I have developed a fear and not sure if I want to provide direct patient care anymore. I would like to work in non-clinical positions but not sure how will I get into those without the experience. I am still not sure if I should be pursuing renewing the RN licence..I am so confused?? Thanks for listening!! Any advice??
